  • Built in 1857, abandoned in the early 1990's. 3,144 sq ft house soon to be torn down and replaced with a Walmart. located in isle of Wight, Virginia. This is one last look before its torn down soon. Nothing was destroyed or taken during exploration. Its such a shame to see a beautiful house go to waste.

I think I had an old local cookbook and this was the home on its cover.

Does anyone know the history because there was such big land behind the house ( that is now a neighborhood )! soo like was it like a plantation at first with slaves did the Jordan’s own that entire land ?

Peanut plantation, with Jordans everywhere. There were slaves involved unfortunately, iirc. Big chunk of the Jordans are buried at St. Luke’s, oldest angelican church in America.

Sure had a lot of Federalist details mixed with a dash of Greek Revival. Even the principe rooms mirrored on a central hall. Was kind of interesting, as the front looks it especially the symmetry, then go around the side and it isn't as it seemed.
Just one example of thousands of historic homes destroyed along with irreplaceable details and history. Thankfully this one was documented.
