First, the towers housed radar targeting equipment, and the top platforms were for the rotating antenna commonly associated with ground radar. The Nike area those in the video are walking through was actually the launch control facility, The missile launchers and concrete containment bunkers were located about a mile away, in an area now occupied by Mary Immaculate Hospital and its parking lot. The entire area, from the hospital (Denbigh Blvd) to the airport property was known as Camp Patrick Henry for 1942 until its decommission in 1946. During that time is was the point of embarkation/debarkation for troops heading to the European and Japanese war theaters during WWII, and also was a German and Italian POW camp. Around 1948 the eastern area was ceded to the city of Newport News and PAC (Peninsula Airport Commission) to build the area's first true airport. The area was never a "neighborhood" as suggested by someone in the video. All of the street or dirt road paths were actually streets inside of Camp Patrick Henry. Go to this link ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Patrick_Henry ) to learn about this area, which includes a map that you can compare the camp streets to Google Maps satellite imaging, where you can still see the remaining streets "image" in the trees. The name of the airport is the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, formerly the Patrick Henry Airport, named that originally as a memorial to the massive and uniqueness of the historical camp. There is a historical marker at the airport between the parking lot and passenger terminal entrance...

The first place I thought of was how many poisonous plants and ticks there must have been. I I guess I’m officially old, when I think of a “vintage school”, I think of a one room school house lol. But as long as it’s the subject at hand, schools like the one you are looking at , were built to replace all the one room school houses, that started closing at the end of the 1950’s and early 1960’s. For example, Weld County in Colorado had approximately 110 school districts, in other words, over 100 little school houses were scattered about . My older friend attended one called “The Prairie Queen” in the early 1960’s , and then it closed & country kids were bussed to the town schools. Sadly the Prairie Queen was razed. The teachers of those school usually stayed with a farm family or in a tiny house called a “teachereage” right next to the school.

Those big tower's were just cranes used to hold missiles in position to be launched. The mound is a place where they keep the missiles. Which is gone I see. Its been along time since we went there. We got chased all the way to the ferry to North Carolina. Because the Virginia turnpike was still being retrofitted.

My fault its been ages ago. There was an entrance going to a comand center and a mound and large truck size blast door's. The door leading to the comand center was bent from the inside out. And there was a high ranking Lt Col along with several others that chased us out and followed us on the highway. We got away but. Scared us

When I went there at age 19. We got chased by Military on four wheelers. That was 20 some years ago. There was a concrete lid that they use to seal the missiles along with several other airlock or some big metal lid in rows of eight.

As a bottle collector, that labeled hair tonic bottle is amazing to see. Labeled bottles are usually found in attics or abandoned houses. I have actually heard of 120 year old fully labeled bottles coming out in perfect condition from old cabinets in abandoned homes. The house itself has held up very good, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is lived in again in the near future. I find it interesting that city folks like the idea of a country life, have money, and yet you still see many of these old homes in exceptional condition, abandoned.
