  • Dr. Drones Prätoria 5" Racing box is a really interesting frame with an ultra low noise profile. I am no expert on frame design so I could not begin to tell you why this is the case, but it's certainly one if the lowest noise frames that have come across my desk. It comes in two flavours, SD and HD, the latter allowing fit for the DJI AU or caddx vista. While its style is in the tradition of a racing frame, I know some use it for cinematic purposes with enough HD cam angle to keep props out of view. Hope the build and analyses are useful. Enjoy!

Hello, I am Dr.Drones. Thank you for the Review Brian. It is nice to see, that also other fpv enthusiasts like me are interested in the Prätoria. If there are additional questions, do not hesitate to ask. I am posting a lot of fpv content on instagram: dr._drones

thank you! hey it'd be great to see how this frame fairs under the Chris Rosser resonance tests. From the design it's hard to imagine there is much movement in the pitch roll axes. be nice to see how it compares to traditional frames.

Reminds me of tbs sourceone V. It also has vertical arms.. nice flying too Brian

      Hello Guys, I am Dr.Drones.
There are a few box frames out at the market, the concept is not totally new. But I saw several ones which were shaking around out of the box. The key for the extreme stiffness of the Prätoria are different carbon thicknesses, the design of the joints and the tight tolerances from the cnc milling.
The center of gravity is moved forward to keep the back motors a lot cooler and also the CG carriage is lifted to keep the weight of the battery a little bit more in center. There are a lot of small key features which are making the difference, trust me. I raced a lot of standard frame designs in 2020 and I was going back to the prätoria in season 2021, because there was no frame with that amazing flight feeling like the prätoria. (Only for my personal feeling).
Thank you guys for the great discussion.

I do wonder if that's due to the extra stiffness that a box design gives. Pain in the ass if you gotta replace an arm but very solid performance.

Hello Alvin, I am Dr.Drones. Your are totally right, it is not that easy to change some parts, if you destroyed something, but I can tell you from my experience. I am racing that frame for more than a year and I never (NEVER!) broke a single 3mm Arm. I broke 3 braces and 4 motor connections plates, thats it. Under hard racing conditions and with more than 100 crashes. It is really rigid, so you dont have to change parts or repair something that often as normal race frame designs. But if you have to, it is a little bit harder, totally correct.

Cool frame, is it available in the US? If so from what store.

It's available at kwadstore.at. I'm uncertain what the shipping cost is though. I'll ask the designer if he intends to find a distributer in the US.

Hello TRexHeliPilot, thank you for your question. I am currently working on a listing of the Prätoria in an US-store. Please give me a little bit more time for that. Otherwise you can order it at www.kwadstore.at, or write me a direct message on instagram: dr._drones

@@PIDtoolbox Not an easy task to extend those arms in height. Over here in germany we flew boxed style frames like until last years season. In the end they ended up getting dropped because being too heavy for a racing rig. They definitely helping to learn to fly smooth lines though. They are also pretty rigid, I was never able to break one flying outdoors.

Let’s just say, the picture was for illustration. I technically couldn’t fit the AU in properly because I had the stack too high, so I temporarily flew it with the AU strapped on top. 😂. I pushed the FC outta the way for the picture. I mean what else could I do 😬. I hoped no one would notice. Very perceptive of you

If using the DJI Air Unit, the stack can't be higher than 18mm or so. It's doable, but not with every stack. And you need to use 90° antenna connectors.
The Caddx Vista will fit in a lot more easily.
