I like your comical critique of yourself. My first painting I ever did was rocks. Who knew they were so hard but I liked how it came out. I surprised myself. Now I’m Trying to do a abstract landscape-yikes challenging

I am trying to capture rocky outbreaks on a steep hillside. The colours (color) is predominantly white, grey and black streaks, similar to chalk with grass and small shrubs interposed. These steep hillsides are in the distance behind trees. Have you done anything similar to this in your tutorials? My attempt appears flat and no depth. 😶

Thank you so much! What I learned here was highlights, mid tones and shadows. I am trying to paint these rocks at the base of a mountain on the edge of a lake and you gave me some great tips! Thank you!
Now, those are rocks ! Makes my rocks look like mere pebbles. Kidding aside, video was very, very helpful.
A well executed pebble will render my pathetic attempts at rocks to mere dust.
Nothing worth having comes easily. Only hard work and dedication.
Ok, the most important take away from this video, so important that I paused it to come comment, is your words about never giving up and pushing through to the end, even when something looks horrible.
I started painting last week after decades of wanting to. I have been stuck on painting #4 for days now. I keep fiddling with this or that, become happy with something, screw it up, fix it, screw it up some more, fix again...but I haven't given up! I will conquer this inverted cereal box I've converted into my canvas. I will finish my snowy pond, and move on with my life!

The round rock painting reminded me of The Creation of Adam. Also the use of the brown/grey colour in the other definitely worked. The colour gave the painting depth and composition. Great tutorial.

Good video. I especially like how you kept your errors and explained what was going on - I think a lot of beginners can benefit from seeing that when they can't figure out where they're going wrong. Not everyone is good with showing errors and talking about how to correct them, so good on you.
