Recently we highlighted the Infinity APS die from Short Action Customs. Today we’re using it in the AMP Press to explore how bullet seating forces vary with different types of brass.

needs to be a systematic blind test as well.

I'd like to see the Sinclair Micro Click Adjust Bullet Seater VS Wilson Micrometer Seater Die. There isn't much info on the Sinclair Dies and I sure do trust your reviews. Thanks for another great video Gavin.

Test cold welding. Load ammo long and leave it set for a month then load ammo long and leave it for a few hours. Then push to a final seating depth and see if forces increase on ammo that's been sitting around.
You could try letting ammo sit that's super clean, some with carbon in the necks, some with lube (neo lube #2 I think it's called)

do double blind testing and see if any of it makes any difference on accuracy AT ALL.

Lots of data, but what does it actually mean? Seems a little pointless measuring something without the ability to interpret. Does consistency of seating force, the "initial spike", slope of the graph, energy expended or anything else have direct correlation on target?

Were the virgin cases chamfered, deburred and/or sized like the 1x fired? If not, it doesn't seem to be an apples to apples comparison..

Did the Hornady and ADG have the bullet seated in the same position as the lapua? Or did they come out long since the load cell peaked out?

Hey Gavin-- This is great. One thing that I would like to see is the difference in seating pressure / graphs for compressed loads using the SAC Infinity die and AMP press. I have done it on my own, but would love to see the results from an expert. 6 Dasher if possible with Alpha brass, but I'm not that picky. Thanks!

What happened here is that the press maxed out at 175 lbs of force and the plunger retracted without fully seating the bullet. I just had the same thing happen with new Lapua and Hornady ELDM, and verified 0.002” neck tension prior. Running a oversized nylon brush in and out of the neck three times brought the seating pressures down from 175 lbs to 125-150 lbs to complete the seating process

I'd like to see a test on a resized case with .002" of neck tension with a bushing die with no expander ball installed.
I'd also like to see a test between two sets of cases; the first set resized after annealing on the AMP Annealer and the second set that has not been annealed

What was SAC thinking??? It's absurd that one has to put the brass into a hole at the top of a tit. Obviously setting the brass into an inverted design (i.e., funnel) would be easier/faster/better.

I would like to see ... say 50 rounds of each with amp press results compared to target results. does the amp show irratic pressures loading but targets as good as consistant pressures during loading?

  • @davidstephens4394
    @davidstephens4394 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

All the first rounds were loaded long as they exceeded the amp press pressure setting and didn’t reach X Zero, so not sure you conclusions are valid

sounds like we dont need to use the mandrel if we anneal properly

Can you expand on this testing. This is extremely helpful for viewers.
Perhaps some more commonly purchased brass for the bulk of your viewers.

Boat tail vs flat base forces, resizing bushing comparisons for neck tension, maybe brand of bullet comparisons or copper jacket vs lead free of the same company. I think these would be interesting comparisons.

  • @TomasHunting

Really interesting results. I always mandrel and chamfer new brass which should make it closer to the once fired brass…

  • @jeffb.3052

What about Alpha and Peterson brass? I'd be more interested in seeing a new brass comparison amongst all the main players, then shoot, anneal, resize using normal processes and test seating again. So you're not only comparing more brands of new brass, but also new brass vs after first post firing resizing. Obviously using the same process for each. Might be interesting to toss some Nosler premium in there too since it's supposed to be ready to load.

Would love to see grouping data between the different brass manufacturers after using that set up as well as the same type of brass plugs annealing. Would help, justifying the price, I would think see if it helps making smaller groups.

  • @user60521123

Is there any safety concerns; for instance, can catastrophic overpressure result for too much seating tension?
I recently had to change my sizing regime for certain brands of bullets with different expander plugs.
