      Hello Cactus thanks for asking, I'll add that into my video plans! For a start, I do lots of data analysis and project coordination stuff with team members, presenting my findings and listening to others over calls. The degree is definitely useful in terms of building mental stamina, but content-wise I rarely find applications. Only once I did and it solved a weird problem no one could, that's a story for another day haha

    Hi Andrew, thank you so much for this insightful video.
    I am currently a year 2 economics major in NUS as well and your module reviews and tips in this video are very helpful. I saw that you are a mentor on The Advisory Mentorship Programme for this year and I have applied to be your mentee. I hope that we have the chance to connect and I look forward to speaking with you if possible!

    Do you need edexcel Alevel maths for economics? The website says you need an year 12 pass for mathematics and im very confused about it as an internation student or will my Cambridge Olevel Maths pass be enough for the subject pre-requisite? Thanks in advance!

    • @andrewtoh6627
      @andrewtoh6627  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I believe it is needed because Economics uses a lot of math so it's highly recommended that you pass advanced math. O level math is good but may not be sufficient. You could try writing into the university admissions office, they're friendly!

    • @andrewtoh6627

      hello Shayaan I think standardized test scores should improve your chances. If you did well in math, chances are better as Economics require quite a lot of math! Good luck with your application!

    Hi Andrew, would like to ask if you think a laptop is necessary for nus econs, and if so, how often will I use it + is a macbook okay 😅

    • @andrewtoh6627
      @andrewtoh6627  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Gaius, I've seen students using laptop for slides and a pen&paper to note down stuff. Generally we need a flexible note taking system as we need to draw graphs and write math equations fast. So pen&paper has an advantage here.

      @@andrewtoh6627 Ah, actually my main concern was that some econs modules might involve programming 😅Were there any compulsory programming modules during your time in NUS?

    • @andrewtoh6627
      @andrewtoh6627  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@retropetroleum There is hardly any, at most it's just a small assignment where we need to submit a code for STATA, a statistical analysis software. And the code was just a few lines. In econometrics class, we are expected to know how to write a few lines of code to use the software and analyze data. Compared to computing school, the amount of programming in economics is small.

    • @andrewtoh6627
      @andrewtoh6627  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@retropetroleum the level of programming needed in economics is small compared to school of computing. There are a few assignments on using the statistical software STATA which we write code for, especially in Econometrics (statistics for economics) but beyond that there isn't a dedicated module for just that. For a deeper analysis of data, more STATA code is needed, but it is pretty simple to learn.

    Hi Andrew! Fellow NUS Econs junior here! :) How did the mods you took helped u in ur internship & career? Saw from ur Linkedin that you work in the finance industry.
    Oh and btw why did u switch from Env studies to Econs ?

    • @andrewtoh6627
      @andrewtoh6627  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hey Tracie thanks for your questions, the mods helped me to work better in a team. Not so much of the content, as much as we like to apply what we learn, but more of the soft skills gained from modules that mattered more. About env studies, I cut that one out of this video as I thougth nobody would be interested, so yeah actually I took that one because it was a new degree (who likes new stuff?) and a multidisciplinary degree (sounds cool!), but eventually I learnt that it's like a biology / geography major which didn't fit my interests well. But the mods credits didn't go to waste as just nice they fulfilled the unrestricted elective modules I have to take. Phew! Guess what, one of them was Intro to Economics EC1301! Thanks for your questions and I hope to answer them more in a future video.
