  • Quick tour of the new 1965 Massey Ferguson 165 that I picked up a couple of weeks ago to replace my Ford 8n. We re-did the brakes, fixed some fuel line leaks and gave her a fresh coat of paint with new decals. Now she looks and runs like new.

That is an absolutely beautiful tractor, we had a 165 as the same as yours it was an early one with the round axles and a generator, best utility tractor we ever had, I miss it very much, we replaced it with a 265 and that was a great tractor also, just in a very short area there was 23 165 Massey Ferguson tractors, take care of it they are one great tractor!!

    Great 👍
I’m picking up my new 1975
    Massey Ferguson 165 tomorrow.
Super excited to put it to work,
Would like to paint mine to brighten the faded paint.
Mine looks in very good condition overall,
Lights will need to be fixed and a couple dents in the fenders but seems to run like a top.
The older man I purchased from had several old Massey Fergusons & one John Deere Tractor,
He was in late 70s & had his dads MF135… that he said wasn’t for sale,
And had an absolutely beautiful MF175,
And another much much older Massey Ferguson antique…
Anyway he knew his tractors and had worked on this 165 personally & said he had completely gone through it & full engine rebuild 5-6 years back ; so I’m hoping it will be a good one for my family.

Very nice! It is tough to go wrong with an old Massey like these. Very solid machines with a lot of nice features for the time!

I have used our family's 1962 MF50 with a 4 cyl Continental gas engine since 1976, when we bought our 93 acre farm. The ol' Massey came in the deal.
I just bought a (year unknown) Massey Ferguson 165 with a 4 cylinder Perkins diesel. It looks to be in pretty good shape aside from some cosmetic stuff. The previous owner put a new hydraulic pump in it, but it leaked the fluid after they put the casing back together. Bad, or backward seals?? Anyway, they didn't even start it after that in fear of burning out a possibly empty hydraulic pump. They sold it to me for $1,500.as is. The almost new rear tires were worth that alone. I hauled it from their barn to a shop near me for investigation and repairs. Hopefully it will be back up and running soon.

Thanks; been pleased with this one so far,
Had to buy a few used implements & managed to drag a couple out from woods where they had been hidden in the brush for about 25 years,
Despite the layer of mud & some rust, the auger & scrapper /leveler work well.
I did have a local tractor shops give me a little scare when I went down to pick up a couple minor parts, they asked if mine was a Multi-Power?
And although I was somewhat familiar with the term, seen it in a few ads while I was looking, I was not sure if mine was ? Nor did I have any real working knowledge of what that may have meant,
The older owner, gave me a brief history of the multi power & how I’d better hope it’s not..
The other technician looked at a few photos I had taken & assured me that he didn’t believe mine was as it didn’t have any evidence of the operational lever or stickers being removed from where it would have been, and agreed the tractor appears to have the original factory paint, thus no alterations to hide if the multipower had been removed.
Furthermore the older owner gave me an additional brief overview of where to look or what to look for to assure that it hadn’t had that option in the past & had been removed.
Fortunately- as my research has shown, mine never had this option-
      They explained that although it was a good idea;
Later it was plagued with issues & any dealer or anyone that knowledgeable about MAssey Fergusons would not be interested should I want to sell it in the future -
We’ve had so so much rain,
I haven’t been able to give this as much usage as I’d like but it’s been of tremendous help so far.
      Hade a blessed day!

@@darinbarfield8738 interesting, where I’m from I’ve never heard a single complaint about multi power. All of my older Massey’s but one have it and the feature gives no problems whatsoever. It’s a pretty simple feature with not a lot that can go wrong, and easy to rebuild. Engine braking only works in high range on those. If yours isn’t a multi power it will have engine breaking in all gears and I believe should be an 8 speed gearbox?

    Looks good.
Most of these had a small light above the hour meter to light up the dash.
Yours don't have the holes for that light, maybe that piece was replaced by an aftermarket one.

Every North American model that I've ever seen has the "electro-luminescent" gauges. The instruments themselves glow so there is no need for light.
