Given that these aliens left their kid in an unaccompanied pod and threw a tantrum when the humans that nabbed it didn't know what the symbol means, it's possible that these aliens are essentially the Karen's and Kyles of this alien species and possibly even vegans. What do I mean by this? Well quite simply that they are the worst of their species. Possibly malnourished and scrawny and heavily dependent on technology they deem capable of handling all their needs. Possibly why they trusted it to send their child in the appropriate location without any guidance. It could also be that they assumed that the humans understood the symbols and took their child hostage, and took the other humans hostage until their child was returned because fuck logic. The reason I bring up these possible sceptics is because I theorize it's possible the unseen members of this alien species is actually different physically then the ones we see. Quite possibly even faster and thus able to search entire buildings in minutes allowing them to possibly do things we don't see. We really don't know the limits of what these creatures are capable of but it's possible they can go completely faster than the human naked eye can perceive if healthy assuming that the aliens we do see are in fact malnourished. All in all. A very interesting movie. I definitely get occasional vibes of a southern accent with how they pronounce certain things. But I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed time and the corn field defying all logic in this film.

I like that end point about failures in alien communication. I remember a book following an almost godlike alien race fighting humans. Fun fact! They do actually use thin red fibers to mimic the look of veins for prosthetic eyes. No, you can't feel them as the fibers are very fine and are covered in a fine glaze so they stick. I will admit I'm not an expert on the making and am only going off what I saw my Dr do when he had to paint my prosthetic, but mine doesn't look like his and there is zero room for a camera to stick on the back of it. And in regards to the glowing red eye thing. You'd be surprised how many people just don't register things about the face. I was walking around with a clear plastic thing in my eye before I was able to get my prosthetic and so many people didn't notice that one of my eyes seemed to be an empty pink socket until I pointed it out.
Final thing. That bit with him handing the eye around and the dog licking it *gags* The Dr. said if the prosthetic ever leaves my socket it gets washed very time, so yeah. Gross gross gross gross gross.

Dude, I'm so with you on the 'almost out of gas' thing. Even as a passenger, it bugs the hell out of me when they won't stop for gas when their meter is practically begging for it. Just a few weeks ago, a buddy of mine was driving me to a board game night with some friends. His meter was in the red from the moment he picked me up and I pointed out three possible gas stations on the way to our destination that he could stop for gas. He was like: 'Nah, we'll go there first. We'll stop for gas on the way back.' His gauge was showing less than 5 miles worth of gas left when we arrived, but it had been showing that for like 5 mins before we got there too, so he was probably driving on fumes already.
When we were driving back later that evening, he even fucking forgot that he needed gas until I reminded him, despite the warning flashing on his dashboard non-stop and he almost ignored the first station we passed by. I was losing my damn mind, lol. Thankfully, he finally decided to put me out of my misery and fueled up.
And all of that was in an urban area with plenty of gas stations in easy distance. I can only imagine how much worse my anxiety would be in the sticks. I would most definitely DEMAND a stop at the last station before going into the woods, regardless of how much was left in the tank. I'm not taking that fucking chance. You fuel up, because you never know what can happen and the more prepared you are, the better off you'll be should it come to that.

"Humans smile at each other to indicate friendliness, however with almost every other species on this planet, baring your teeth is a sign of aggression."
I actually had an anthropology class and the teacher discussed smiling. It boils down to us being predators with very tiny, very weak fangs. I mean, if you compare the human canine teeth to other predatory species, our fangs are downright pathetic. The teacher explained that baring our teeth is a sign of submission; "See how small my fangs are? I'm not a threat to you or yours." (Actually, male hyenas do something comparable, by showing their penises as a sign of submission to females.) So that's pretty much how we ended up developing a smile as a sign of nonaggression.
