+Sabeth Drake you actually get the same problems with a panic disorder. You tell someone you can't do something because you have panic attacks, and they think "it can't be that bad." Fortunately, unlike migraines, all you have to do is have a panic attack around someone before they believe you. And then you have to convince them that no, they shouldn't call for an ambulance, even as you actively feel like you're going to die.
I have to stay home from school when I have a migraine. My mom gets them so she understands. I basically lay in a dark room all day and throw up into a bucket by my bed. Its so much fun.
+Ed, Edd n Eddy I used to have them normally during the evening about a year ago. Luckily that usually meant I was at home, and taking medicine and lying in bed with a pillow over my head works wonderfully. For me it gradually goes away, so I think, "Oh hey, it's gone! Maybe I can go open my eyes- NOPE, NOPITY NOPE NOPE NOPE BACK INTO THE TURTLE SHELL".
+Blue Night I tried this once and I never stayed very long looking at the mirror. But that was when I was in my teens. Maybe I will try this but I just hope this never comes back, I do not miss it. At all.
I really get frustrated when people say that they have a migraine when it's really just a headache. If you actually had a migraine you wouldn't be telling me about it because you'd be too busy slamming your head off of a wall in search of relief. I've had one in my entire life and I would rather break a bone than ever experience that again.
Just saying, I've had migraines most if not all of my life. I've learned that I can not just shutdown when I have a migraine. I still have bills to pay, if I shutdown every time I had a migraine I would work maybe ten days a month most months. I've taken all kinds of prescriptions meds both preventatives and abortive. When I do have a migraine and need to work through it, taking OTC pain meds as often as I can get away with (typically switching between Tylenol and Ibuprofen) makes it possible to get through a day. Nothing really works to control my migraines. My triggers vary... allergies, certain foods, insomnia/lack of sleep, certain odors, etc. Sometimes the sun can be enough to trigger a migraine. I can not stress enough though, that just because I have found ways to make it to work most days when I have a migraine (which last between 3 and 5 days for me) does not mean that I do not suffer from migraines. I manage work and by the time I get home I hide in my room which is dark (no windows is a great thing) and quiet.... if I retreat to my room it is to sleep off the migraine while I can. Sleep is the best thing for migraines. Anyways I'm done with this rant, don't really care if you don't understand that just because you can work through a migraine does not mean you are not suffering from a migraine. Just thought I would try to educate you.
Rose L Have you tried ice packs on your neck, or over your eyes, the sides of your head even? Take a hot shower, as hot as you can stand get out go to a dark room with an ice pack and take a nap... this combination typically helps me break my migraine cycle. occasionally it doesn't work but it beats reaching daily max of OTC meds. I can't stress enough how OTC meds while they edge pain enough to function can lead to other issues with your digestive system in the long run. Good luck with your migraine.
I don't know if it helps, but when I get a migraine I take a combination of ibuprofen, naproxen and carisoprodol. The naproxen-carisoprodol I buy it as "caridoxen". Tough I don't know how is called in other countries. Fair warning, the compound is recommended in no more than one dose every twelve hours or so. Basically, my doctor recommended that I take a strong analgesic with a strong relaxant and an anti inflammatory. Also check the compounds on your medicine. I know that some have things like caffeine or other stimulants. It helps some people because they help or stop some symptoms. Personally I get worse with them. Hope this helps
Right now, I say one thing when a migraine headache strikes. 'Excedrin', I don't play around. If I catch it early enough, I can function. Otherwise, I'm in for hell. When the weather swings wildly, I'm in for it, though; I had a period of constant headache for three days when one such change happened.
I hate it when people just have a normal/mild headache but they call it a migraine. And they just walk around like normal with a bit of a sore head. It annoys me because when I'm having a real life migraine people think I'm exaggerating my symptoms because they think it's just a headache. But I'm not. I really am half blind and I feel like I'm drunk and nauseous. It's a real thing guys.
I have trouble with everything. If i want to go somewhere i have to crawl since walking can be hazardous. Plus while crawling i have to feel my way since everything gets so bright my sight gets white washed and heavily blurred.
Yep. Had one at work yesterday and couldn't understand my own writing. I hope the note got to the right person and was understandable because I couldn't understand what I was writing. I still have a migraine right now going on 3 days now. Hope this comment doesn't offend anyone because I'm not a sure what I just wrote
Thank you, Hank! I hate when I have it and people are like: "It's just a headache, take a pill and buckle up..." It is so much more than that... Once I couldn't move, like, literally, I was in my room, in the dark and quiet, lying down, and i would try to move my numb legs or hands, and then the vomiting would come! Just by slightly moving, like, no more than two inches...
I was a chronic sufferer of migraines, having up to two migraines a day for periods up to two months with only a week or so break in between. I was victim to classic migraine with aura, loss of vision, loss of sensation in my limbs and slurred speech to start. Pounding headaches and hypersensitivity to light coupled with nausea and constant vomiting followed. These migraines could last days and really made me feel depressed. It really annoys me when people use the excuse 'I have a migraine' so flippantly. If you had one, you wouldn't even be stood up. To any of those suffering out there, be strong... I sought out an amazing specialist who was a leading authority in migraines. This specialist prescribed me amytriptaline, one of the most basic migraine treatments. It was a miracle! A few weeks in I was migraine free and have been (more or less despite maybe a few every couple of months) for almost two years now! If any of you are suffering, I feel for you.
I wish every single person in the world would watch this! I've suffered from migraines for as long as I can remember. And the one thing that pisses me off more than people who don't understand are people who try and say "oh, yeah I get bad headaches too". I literally want to punch them in the face.
when i have a migraine and notice getting the headache, the only thing that seems to help me is go to sleep immediately. once i'm asleep, it mostly goes away within a few hours and without me throwing up. so the only problem is falling asleep with a feeling like someone trying to pierce my temples.
Pisses me off a ton when people who have minor head aches or something start saying they have a migraine. No, if you had a migraine you would be having an entire different experience.. I've been getting chronic migraines for a while now... Mine are mostly triggered by weather/ change of season. I start getting the aura, and know right away to get pain relivers. My best relief is achieved after I throw up, that when the headache portion goes away, as soon as a throw up. After I go to a dark room and try to rest until I feel better :)
Woke up with one of these babies today and puked three times, although I hadn't eaten or drank anything. I couldn't even take my meds. Ugh. What a lovely Easter. 😷😢
My bf has migraines. On a normal basis he gets them once every 2-3 weeks. They suck but he says he can handle them. Then he'll get the most horrible migraine ever about 2 times a year. Today he had one of the horrible ones. I've never seen him in so much pain, it was just awful he couldn't even move. My sympathies and admiration go out to anyone who suffers with this. I myself am lucky, I rarely get headaches and can't say that I've ever had a migraine ever. If someone tells you your condition is not real or that your faking it, screw them. Those pricks probably couldn't handle the pain you have to go through.
Hi Erin, have you heard of thermal micro-cautery as a natural and effective treatment for migraine ? ayurveda-migraine.com/ th-cam.com/video/C8iYCl8-GcI/w-d-xo.html
Sometimes, when I have a migraine because of lack of sleep I'm like: I have a migraine because I don't sleep. I don't sleep because I have a migraine...
Right? It’s ironic that migraines can be caused by lack of sleep. I work night shifts. Go to bed at 7 or 8 am and sleep til, hopefully 4. Stupid migraine wakes me up during precious sleep time and cuts it off. I was up at 2:30. Thanks, how helpful... 🙄
This is probably the best description of a migraine I have seen. I am a 4th generation migraine sufferer and am also diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). I will sometimes get migraines that last 1-2 weeks in varying levels of pain and will be in my room, windows covered, trying to go to sleep, and only coming out for my needs. Before my migraines became prominent, I would get really nauseous, but with no headache. I also have a constant, more mild, but chronic headache. Because of POTS, I get full easily, but when I have a migraine, it gets worse and I also have to force myself to drink 60-80 ounces a day to help with the POTS and therefore, the migraines.
I've had a migraine before. So far it's only happened once, but by God was it the worst thing I've ever experienced. Those of you who deal with them on a more regular basis, you have deepest sympathies.
i used to get really bad migraines as a kid i would vomit and get dizzy, sounds and smells would make me sick and light was excruciating! they have got a lot better now that i am an adult. Now its just horrible pounding pain and i cant move too fast or bend down because it makes it hurt even more.
our symptoms are very similar...yet after all the tests i've been through no doctor ever gave me an answer...too disapointed and too tired of this monster called migraine ruining my life!!
Believerette what works for me is putting a cool washcloth on my head, drinking Gatorade (electrolytes!), taking ibuprofen, and sleeping. I hope you all find relief!
thanks Carla Smith i can manage them pretty well but it really is annoying to have to deal with, I have had one on and off for about 5 days in a row now but thankfully I can work with it
Carla Smith My nose is a walking Migraine detector, I could make a living picking people who suffer from migraines. I have a very simple way of picking people who suffer from Migraines, men or women, if they get around me and I start to fill my face and teeth start to hurt under my eyes that's always the starting symptom, for decades I thought it was horrible sinus headaches, I was wrong I finally got the right diagnosis from a neurologist at headache clinic. If I get around somebody who's wearing strong fragrances and I get the first symptoms of migraine. I asked them do you have problems with migraines or chronic sinus headache's I estimate I've asked this question to over 1000 people 95% of those people say yes. Then I realized that the same trigger that triggers my headaches must be triggering there's. So then I set out to explain why triggers, trigger migraines, after six years of research and reading thousands of medical papers I think understand why. I think migraines are a cholinergic disorder. I bet if you study your triggers you will find a common denominator. 1. You use Tide or Gain or dryer sheets 2. Pizza 3. MSG 4. Weather changes 5. Perfumes or strong cleaning fluids 6. Your menstrual cycle 7. Soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, barbecue sauce. 8.Wine They all have a common denominator. Can you find it? Show less
I suffer pretty heavily from migraine, and the symptoms mentioned are correct. However, it is missing memory loss and a loss of time awareness. Often when I either faint from the headache or take drugs to put myself to sleep, I wake up not remembering a great deal of recent events. They return in a few hours though.
I have some of the shittiest migraines out there.. I get sore muscles - aura (I'm completely blind for 10 to 30 minutes) Then the headache starts, for several hours I am completely incapacitated by it, very light and sound sensitive my muscles tense up and spasm. After the headache starts to wear off I get sick and vomit several times, only then does the headache stop completely and the nausia stops and I start feeling better. However I'm usually light headed, weak and sore all over severaal days after. Migraines fucking suck!
Yeah I had that in my teen years... just had one now (first time in 5 years) and it was just the loss of vision / flashy sun spots + hung over feeling head ache. So not to bad this time.
I get the Aura part of migraines and lose my vision. It's like a white sparkly static that slowly encroaches on your normal vision. It usually happens before the headache part and is kind of like an early warning system allowing me to try and avoid a full migraine. I find eating Digestive Biscuits and taking Ant-acids helps a bit :)
If you search ocular migraines you can see what they look like. I was out hunting one day and saw it, thought I had something horribly wrong with my eyes (both eyes were seeing the anomaly.) Turns out things like certain foods can trigger them, or they can just happen randomly.
Believe it or not, ever since I was 4 years old, I've experienced migraines, been to multiple doctors, specialists, therapists, etc. just to see if MAYBE anything can help. I'm 14 now and just about the ONLY thing that helps is an over the counter painkiller and maybe about 5 friggin hours of sleep. They suck.... Frankly I wouldn't wish a migraine on my worst enemies
...Believe it or not, the most random stuff can cause it. I cant eat M&Ms because they always give me extreme migraines. In all honesty, being stressed or angry can set it off, while being completely overheated does the trick...
I have a malformation of the brain, which causes migraines and the 'aura'. Though, my aura is usually a sign that a seizure is about to happen, for me. (Not inherently a grand maul... I think that's what it's called.) I'm kinda curious if the aura is the same as the 'seizure is about to happen' aura.
I was especially surprised by the connection between serotonin and migraines. I've suffered from depression AND migraines for more than a decade, both of which are at least somewhat effected by the levels of serotonin.
To be completely honest there probably is a link. Although mine are made worse by my congenital brain defect, I also suffer from chronic panic attacks, another serotonin disorder. Zoloft seems to be helping the headaches, and by association saving me money on pot, but sadly not the panic attacks for the most part. Thank god for clonazepam.
I applied to be in a trial at a major university in my country trying to find out whether 'depression headaches' could be CBT'd away. I didn't pass the stringent application process, so was able to ask him about it's success, and he said there is about a 70% success rate in (the appropriate/applicable) people 'training their brain' to not have headaches if they are 'depression headaches'. That's amazing!
It's almost like you feel like you got off of Death Row. But you still have some punishment coming. (You're not off the hook, b/c you still have the migraines.) But it sure is a hell of a lot better than a stroke!!
I really, really have to thank you guys at SciShow for making this video! I have chronic hemiplegic migraine disorder and baseline headache as well - I can remember ONE day in the last 15 years that I didn't have a headache or migraine, and living with it is very difficult. So few people really understand that migraines aren't "just headaches" and that they can be horribly debilitating. When guys and gals like yourselves help put it out there that migraines are different and terrible (rather than "take two ibuprofen tablets and get over it"), it helps us chronic sufferers an amazing amount. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
cheshire cat I can use my computer when I get migraines. I generally have no sound sensitivity and heavy light sensitivity, and if I'm at home with a migraine and turn the light on the screen down, it's no biggie. Gotta stop to lie down every once in a while.
As a child I used to suffer from migraine headaches I had to be put in a dark room for hours to ease the pain luckily I dont have them anymore so I am having a hard believing people actually know what a migraine really feels like
I usually set the brightness of my monitor to 10%, have noise cancelling headphones to drown out background noise, and a good cup of peppermint tea to ease symptoms whenever I have a migraine--and I have them a lot. I've suffered with them my entire life. Headache, no big deal. Migraine--debilitating as hell.
I get them about once a month two once every two months, and I work fast food. My bosses don't seem to realize what I am going through and insist I can take some ibuprofen and can be okay. It is the most frustrating thing I have ever experienced
Andrew Parker See a doctor and get a note. No I'm not joking, it may really be necessary for you to keep on track with your employers with realizing what is going on is actually serious. For example, when I was having severe sleep apnea my manager at the time understood me not working well in the mornings or being late, but thought being late back from breaks was just me being ridiculous and exaggerating. He didn't understand that not getting any real rest at night would affect me all day, not just first thing in the morning. It took me getting a qualified doctor and getting surgery for him to realize how serious it could be for me, but a note will probably work for you, since it can be targeted to when you are actually experiencing symptoms when you need it, at first.
Goodness. I've had migraines since 7th grade. I'm in 10th grade now and my triggers are stress and sleep deprivation. I got woozy during a migraine about two months ago and fell on my face while getting up to go to the nurse. I was so embarrassed, that I started tearing up and the nurse had to wheel me outta there. Worst part is my teacher kinda just laughed at me. I hate not being taken seriously during, before, or after a migraine.
As a triage nurse in a busy ER, I've learned to spot the true migraine suffering individuals rather than the recreational narcotic abusers. Someone with migraines doesn't want to answer a lot of stupid questions like, "when was your last tetanus shot"....Once they become committed to coming to the ER, and facing the riot of screaming sick kids in the lobby, as well as the "antiseptic" smells that we disinfect the puke covered stretchers with, they're often disappointed by the skeptical physicians looking up their pharmaceutical purchase records on a little known government web site. Any subsequent interrogation of their "frequent-flyer" status frequently goes down hill from there. At best we try the same old opiates and IV fluids, and at worst we refer the problem back to a primary care doctor, who then refers them to a neurologist several months later. My heart actually goes out to them. Younger, and less experienced nurses don't seem to understand this, unless they've been cursed by their own migraines.
Mine trigger's usually eye strain. If my eye's are tired, usually because I'm not wearing my contacts, and I'm looking at a TV, Computer, phone or a bright light usually or just concentrating my eyes on something I'll get a sudden sharp pain in one eye and then immediatley the aura sets in. All though the headache usually calms down, provided I don't make too sudden head movements, after I throw up.
+TehFrasssaa There are two separate issues with TV, computer, phones and lights First LED and CFL lights emit UV light at levels that should not reach your eyes. And yet we look at these screens. Having a lamp that is in your field of view and you can see directly is also a problem. Second LED and CFL flicker in high frequency that you cant see but your brain feels the effects of the hundreds of flashes of light per second. Either one of them is bad enough on their own so you need to solve both problems for best results. 1. Natural light is what we evolved for so it is best but if you are close to a window and light is coming at a bad angle you need to improve on that. Incandescent and halogen lamps are the only good options for artificial light for now. They dont flicker and have very low UV output. 2. Glasses can help a lot with the UV issue but not with the flickering. You need something that blocks UV and possibly reduces blue light. The ones that are good are marketed as blue light protection glasses, nothing more than UV filter with slight yellow tint. 3. LED computer screens and mobile phone displays are worse than lighting because you look at them and read all day. If you have an older thin TFT monitor or older laptop that you find easy on your eyes this is because all the new ones are now LED. People tend to reduce the brightness when they get tired. This reduces UV output but increase flicker. What is a better option if you have glasses that work for you is to increase brightness until there is no flicker. You can check that by waving a pen in front of the monitor. If you see it smoothly then there is no flicker, but if you see it as many distinct flashes then there is still flicker left. You then combat the high brightness with your glasses and good lighting of the room. The closest a doctor has been to the truth in my case was a neurologist, who recognized that at first it was eye strain but after months in such environment (looking at a LED screen and in CFL/LED lit room) the condition turns into a neurological one. Your brain recognizes the bad environment but doesnt know what the problem is and the result is the intense headaches that you get within minutes that signal you to get out of there.
And I thought it was just me..yawning when I get migraines..also major chocolate and caffeine cravings?..Ice pack on the eyeballs, dark room, classical music and codeine, usually takes care of it..Not sure if the euphoria is from the codeine or the happiness from the pain being gone. :)
Doesn't codeine also be a cause of migraine. Remember a doctor telling me that. Don't know if it's true but worth a try. I use a cold strip on the forehead and it seems to do wonders.
This is very enlightening to me. Not to brag… I'd like to give thanks to whomever (especially my parents and grandparents, and so on) and whatever forces in my life that made me this way: I've never had a migraine...not even a headache. Here's to hope that I never will. :)
As a person who gets chronic migraines, I appreciate this video so that I can show people that I'm not just being "dramatic." and that migraines are not just headaches that hurt a lot.
I get migraines and I think he left out a symptom. When I get a migraine I usually go take a nap or find a dark quiet place to ride out the pain but If i go to long without taking pain killers or have to continuously work through the migraine I start trembling slightly and fumbling things. It's not fun.
If someone had a migraine while watching this video about migraines it would destroy their brain with how often you change the pitch and volume of your voice I'm not hating you're the best host scishow has
It is a terrible affliction and I get soooo annoyed when someone with nothing more than a mild headache stands at my desk in the pharmacy and tells me " oh i have such a migraine right now" and I'm thinking "Lady, if you were having a migraine right now you wouldn't be able to stand here and tell me about it"
I get migraines and can still work. I lose about half my vision and it looks like a kaleidoscope. Things generally get worse after my vision restores, achining headache feels like massive pressure, ive wanted to cut a hole in my head before as its got so paintful. I can still work through it though.
Mrsitheguy1 I once started to get a migraine at work, i told my supervisor that i needed to go home after about a half hour, and i was terminated on the spot. (I was still within the 3 month probationary period for new hires)
I have chronic migraines and nothing has helped me for the 3 medicines i take daily to the botox my doctor recommended (even though im technically underage) i get them a few times a week (aprox. 3-5) and so my academics are taking blows along with my social life and what im able to do. You are lucky, i honestly would not wish this on the person i hate the most.
000claw en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isolation_tank try this. '_' Expensive, but from what hank described it seems like the best way to wait out your symptoms.
000claw Luckily my migraines stopped a whole while ago. (Maybe it was related to me starting to smoke Weed? :o Just an assumption, though.) But I know that feeling... At first you can't see shit anymore as your vision becomes blurry and half an hour later you are banging your head against a wall in total pain, just to make the pain go away or atleast have a bigger pain, that is not located right in the middle of your brain, which makes your head feeling like it will explode every secound while being run over by a truck at the same time.
I got such a bad migraine I had to spend the night at the hospital, I clutched my head when ever I moved the slightest bit, I barfed from the pain, I cried, and they put these things on my head to see what was going on in there. Turns out I got a really bad one... not a surprise. The food was really good at the hospital, though.
Nani Matamoros Did they give you actual pain meds? My migraines are only helped with a strong anti inflammatory and a strong narcotic.. they never give the narcotic though..
dude you have no idea how much i want to show this to my math teacher. i once told her i was getting a migrane and would have to leave class and she acted like i could control it and i was just so bothered by that. so thank you
Sorry but if I got one of my migraines in class I would simply stand up, walk out and go home. No questions asked. If you're underage you need to call to get picked up by your parents. Migraines are no joke and they do get worse if you try to keep going about your day. What you need to do is go home and try to go to sleep in a dark and quiet room. People that do not respect your migraines are simply ignorant of their severity.
I had a Jr. High School teacher who was very late to class because she was trying to sleep off the early stages of a migraine in her parked car. Each person is different as to what causes migraines. Certain foods (sweets or greasy) and changes in stress levels seem to be major factors for me. I know others who are affected by allergies or changes in weather. In my younger years they were very debilitating. A dark quiet room where I could lay still for several hours and extra strength excedrin was all that would help. The vomiting started when the migraine was breaking up. Now that I am older I still have the aura, but no painful headache, sometimes weakness, and head pain when I sneeze or cough.
PJthePlayer Reading these comments make me feel like other people understand! When I get migraines at school I'll first go to the nurse to call my mom & she'll tell me to "stay in school & tough it out" It's not something that you can control, which a lot of people don't understand. Even taking a pill won't work until hours later for me :(
xSavage Sounds like your mom needs some education regarding migraines. The first time I got one at work I tried to "tough it out" and it just got worse and worse until I ended up in the floor puking my guts out and had to be driven home. Unfortunately a migraine commands your immediate attention and must not be ignored. I have found that if you immediately lay down and relax in a dark and quiet room the symptoms are far less severe and resolve more quickly.
My mom gets really bad migraines and I've had them as well, but I think I've grown somewhat of a tolerance to it over the years. When I was younger I would have to cry myself to sleep because the pain was so bad. Now a pain killer when I feel it coming usually fixes the problem and I can continue with my day.
First time i ever got one i was in high school taking a math test and i started getting holes in my vision. I had no clue what was happening and it was pretty scary. Losing my vision is always my first sign, as soon as it hits i crawl into bed and try to go to sleep before the major stuff comes on. Then i get the pins and needles, dizziness, light/sound sensitivity, then the pain. Its an all day thing for me when i get one.
I find it's best not to pretend there's something in your eye, and take your meds immediately (then crawl into bed). God, I have nightmares about the times I was caught out without medication. No doctor's note has ever worked as well as bloody sclera though.
When first started getting migraines, I lot spots of vision too. Luckily, the first time it happened I was with my dad, who gets the same aura, so he knew what it was and got me home before all the bad stuff hit.
I had HORRIBLE migraines when I was 15 to 18, I did know they where a serious problem back then all I knew was it hurt and I wanted the pain to stop, I took so many pain killers for a period of over a year and I unknowingly ended up with substance abuse problem =( the doctor kept telling me I was addicted and I wouldn't believe him, so he told me if I really could stop anytime I wanted I should show him and stop and then come and see him in week. it was the most pain I felt in my life, nothing "non pill like" helped but I managed to stop taking them and after a few months even my migraines all together stopped. in a few years I started taking pain killers again but now Im responsible enough to know to not ever do it and to take them when needed =)
I've had migraines since I was eleven or so, but it took a long time to address them because 'kids will be kids' and everyone assumed I was overreacting or faking it or something. Surprisingly, my mum took me to a doctor after I went to lay down on her bed and my hand moved along the silk pillowcase. I am very sensitive to textures and touch when I'm fine, and I hate the feeling of silk on a good day. The way it caught on my fingers and the texture overwhelmed me. I thought my head was going to balloon up and explode, and then I puked. Good times. Lights and sounds don't help me feel better, but if I touch something I don't like or smell something pungent, my migraines will quickly go from ugly to... well, chunky. I've met a few others who say smell will set them off in a bad way, but no one else who is touch-sensitive. I figure there's gotta be a sufferer out there who gets it, right?? ...Right?? (c'mon, don't leave me hangin'.)
Pearl Carol When my migraine is very bad the touch of wool is awful, specially thick wool blankets make me feel like I'm gonna puke. But I think sugar and sugar substitutes are my main triggers.
letyvdx Finally! Another texture sensitive person! Isn't it the worst? You never realize how much fabric and such can bother you until a brush against it makes your hork. I actually really enjoy scratchy wool, corduroy, denim... It's the smooth things like silk and satin that make me queasy. Sugar substitutes can cause a lot of problems for a lot of people. Have you given stevia a shot? I hear it helps with sugar-sensitive people who get bad side effects from synthetic substitutes like aspartame.
Pearl Carol mine are mostly due to light . it usually horrible time, all i can do is sleep it off. And if i eat something it becomes bad, as i become extreme nauseous and relief is there only after i vommit. Do Homeopathic medicines help?? coz, modern medicines do not help at all.
Pearl Carol I get migraines and dislike silk and flannel, and absolutely hate satin, really anything that catches on my fingernails or cuticles. My reaction to them is pretty much the same as hearing fingernails on a chalkboard. I haven't ever touched them while having a migraine because I keep them out of my home. Well, come to think of it, my headphones came in a satin lined box and I still have it. I'll try to remember to touch it next time I have a migraine. I've heard blowing chunks can ease the pain sometimes so I'm willing to give it a try.
One sleep deprivation induced attack I had was pretty interesting. I only slept a few hours during a 48 hour long Game Jam, the rest of the time I was working on shaders (special effects). When the migraine hit, I did not only have a massive headache, I also questioned whether triangles could even exist. That was pretty interesting...
I recently started struggling with migraine. I changed my diet in order to cope, I went from vegetarian to a vegan. I now have little migraine attacks and can better control my condition, also exercise helped a lot with the auras.
I have suffered with migraines for many years, but before they started I also went through many years of cluster headaches which are different and worse by far. After decades, the clusters have mercifully tapered off to being much less frequent and far less painful. I still get the aura associated with them (drooping eye and cognitive confusion) and can sometimes can still get a good shot of cluster flavored pain, but I am thankful that they are becoming a thing of the past. My migraines are annoying but at least manageable (for me that is, everyone is different). I am posting this to let people know that although they still can’t be cured, time sometimes can lessen the suffering. It often feels like I have awoke from a long and painful dream. But I am alive and happy, there is hope.
I used to have a terrible migraine at least once a week, then stopped smoking, now I get one every two months at most, and much less intense pain. Just so people know :)
How I describe my migranes. Aftermath of a migraine. Sleeping in the bathroom because the pain is so intense the body convulses and you throw up repeatedly until there's nothing but acid tearing up your throat. Meanwhile your head is in so much pain it hurts worse than breaking bones, pain so intense you're incapacitated, writhing in pain on the floor. The back of your neck feels like 1/2 inch thick spikes are splitting vertebrae apart, and you can't take anything to dull the pain except sit it out. Screaming in pure agony on the floor as your vision stops working, and sounds feel like your brain is being clawed and ripped apart. Then... silence as the pain becomes so intense it literally stops all functioning. Then everything goes white as you passout knocked unconscious. You wake up hours later weak, delerious, and sick to your stomach with the fuzzy memory of the worse pain you've ever experienced. The only prevention? Unhealthy doses of pain killers that MIGHT stop the onset if you got to the pills fast enough.
I’ve had migraines since I was at least 11 years old, and it’s such a struggle. Just the symptoms are bad enough, combine that with others who have never had a migraine and seeing their disbelief makes it even more intolerable. It would be wonderful if SciShow could do a show about migraine treatments, personally I’ve been taking Aimovig and it’s been a life changer.
One factor that may be contributing to those headaches is the glare from your computer or other digital device. By applying an anti-glare screen protector. It reduces the glare and the strain on the eyes. I've got ocushield screen protector for my pc and iphone. It's helpful and I also get a better sleep.
I recently got new glasses with special blue control lenses, which reflect blue light from screens from devices. My migraines have become much shorter, although they're still as bad.
+Claire Lim Wearing glasses might be uncomfortable in a way that you have to wear it always. Ocushield works fine for me. It's helpful and convenient too.
I had one after spending too many days in front of a computer and not going out of the building except for a short commute to work and getting groceries across the road for straight 15-20 days. :)
I had migraines all the time until I went to the chiropractor. I had X-Rays and found I had scoliosis. After weeks and weeks of adjustments my migraines went away.
Chronic Migraines have destroyed my life. It also really angers me the people who get headaches and call it a migraine. I have a relative that calls hers migraines, but she runs around doing everyday stuff or work, which proves its not a migraine. My pain is so bad it literally hurts to think and it throbs so bad I am in bed for many hours, sometimes all day wishing I was dead.
I should add the pain also has caused me to throw up it hurts so bad for so long a time. It is always on the left side of my head, the right side is always fine. Migraines are far worse than headaches. Too many people throw the word migraine around who don't even get true Migraines. Anyone who says you can work through or do anything while having a migraine is a liar who never has had a true migraine. Even football players miss games and even the Superbowl because of a migraine.
Yup, I can't do anything at all when I have a migraine. Nausea, throwing up... Going to bed but realizing the pillow you put over your head to block the light out is too heavy and causes more pain.I wear sunglasses inside my home when I have a migraine and the smell of garlic sets off vomiting.
Same here, my friend. When a migraine strikes, people tell me it's just like a headache, but in no way is it. I do have throbbing head pains, but I have blurred vision, ringing, and so much more. I'm happy to know I'm not alone
+TimothyC.2015 Yup. The worst part of a migraine to me is with each of my heart it feels like someone is hitting my head with a hammer. I'm On my 3rd with this damn migraine. My head still hurts now my legs hurt to and if I try to stand up it legs feel like they will give out on me. For me to go to the bathroom I can't move too fast cause my legs may give out on me or I might vomit or both. Go too slow or I might not make it to the toilet in time. I really hope my son doesn't inherit this from me.
My migraines come with what might as well be blindness I can see I just can't understand anything beyond there is a wall here or there isnt a wall here. The best part is not only is it almost impossible to understand what an object is but giant purple-green-black blotches appear and block 50% of what I can see. It is terrifying.
It took me YEARS (like, 10+) and numerous brain scans to accept that my possible migraine symptoms could really be just migraine symptoms. The misconception that a migraine is just a bad headache is really problematic. The headaches are the least of my concerns! I can deal with head pain. Symptoms that mimic seizures or strokes are much harder to cope with when you have them very frequently, especially you start suddenly having them when you're 14 years old. Thank you for this video. It's actually helped bring me some peace of mind to hear that doctors sometimes have to run tests to check that the patient hasn't actually had a stroke...makes it more likely that my undiagnosed problem may not be some catastrophic thing that doctors are just all missing.
I knw exactly how you feel .. i started having them since 7 yrs old .. baloney were the trigger for me now i know that anything that have preservatives like sulphate are triggers. When I go to italian restaurants after i eat the delicious food i panic with thinking that the sauce cheese or meat they used is going to make me sick so i immediately go to the restroom Or whenever i try new food ... i hate having this fear .. but I go blind with my migraines and its scary ..
I've got them almost daily and that's going on since I can remember myself. Same for my mother, 2 aunts, grandpa and a few of my cousins. Doctors said after puberty, they will either stay the same or get worse. I'm 19 and thankfully they haven't gotten worse yet. Also, I hate people who get a migrane once a year and act like they are dying.
My nose is a walking Migraine detector, I could make a living picking people who suffer from migraines. Can you find it?
mrgetrealpeople That migraine has triggers is common knowledge, no offense, but it is different for everyone. Some have more, and it can be anything from the smell of dog food to the sound of electric guitars. I have a shitload of triggers. Stress, loud sounds, sunshine, high temperatures, screens, lack of sleep, too much sleep, strong smells, hunger periods, being inside for too long, being outside for too long... I never get rid of triggers.
Every time I have to call in to school and tell them I'm having a migraine I get scolded by my teachers the next day. Like the fuck? It's not my fault.
Thank you so much! I've had them since I was young and I've experienced far to many people who don't believe migraines can be "that bad". I'd never wish it on anyone, but it's so tiring trying to explain it to those who can't comprehend it.
The last terrible migraine I had, I felt dizzy and couldn't think straight, before the nausea set in, then an aching neck and a KILLER headache that just didn't go away. I fell asleep for five hours in the middle of the day, while at a county fair with 4H. Excellent.
does anyone have that thing where if you haven't been moving for a while and you suddenly get up, your vision blurs or even cuts out completely for a few seconds?
Ive layed down all day never moved and I got up so quickly that I blacked out. I woke up on the floor. Doesnt happen if Ive been drinking enough water.
***** stop fucking spamming tha to everyone. nobody wants to see your stupid video. and yeah i have that effect too, sometimes i get to weak when standing up that i fall back down.
Lol, migraines are the worst. I have one now. My triggers tend to be eating chocolate, which usually means "more than just a little", and it sucks for me because chocolate is basically my favorite thing ever. Also temperature change, sugary drinks, when I'm stressed, or if I'm getting my period. There are probably others, I just haven't figured them out yet. I take Excedrin a lot and it works pretty well if I catch it early enough.
When people heard you got migraines, they think that it's just a terrible headache and usually shrugs people with real migraines. This video is good in explaining what migraine really is!
Thank you for this episode. It explains what I struggle with very well. Hopefully showing this to my family and friends will help them be a little more empathetic. I only wish you had mentioned how difficult to treat chronic migraines are. Some of us have migraines on some level 20 days or more a month. When that is the case being in a dark quiet room all the time isn't an option. So we push through the pain to live our lives. Having the understanding of those around us is crucial in coping.
Migraine sucks really really bad :c. I missed out ( and still miss out ) on a lot of fun stuff while growing up. At one point I got it so often and for long periods of time ( I had at least 3 every month and they lasted for like 5-6 days ) that I really got depressed and suicide once crossed my mind. Fuck man I hate thinking back at that time.
My boyfriend was like that for a while (his trigger was stress) and I'm SO lucky my Mum isn't a depressive type, she gets daily headache all the time, and migraines about twice a month. She's had every drug and holistic treatment there is. Nothing seems to help :(. What was it that helped you?
Well I tried almost everything too. Most conventional pills and injections, my list of products is endless :s. So I tried breathing exercises ( helped a little with stress triggers ), acupuncture, herbs ( made it worse ), a chiropractor nothing worked. But end 2013 my neurologist found a studie that said that "candesartan" (blood pressure product ) helps preventing migrain and it seems to work for me. When I have an attack that lasts too long I inject myself with "dihydergot" which shorten my attacks considerably.
Thanks for that :) it's a shame there's no "one-size-fits-all" drug for migraine :(. My Mum's currently having a somewhat experimental botox treatment - which seems to help for a little while then wear off. Here's hoping it's cumulative and turns into a permanent solution. Very glad you've found something that helps, but sorry it doesn't stop them completely xx
LeffeRoyal Certain strains of weed will stop mine even during an aura stage when I can't even talk due to numbness; literally the only way my doctor was convinced I wasn't having a stroke.
It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when people say they have migraines when they clearly just have a headache (or even a really bad headache).... it almost makes me wish they'd have a real migraine. Almost. I don't wish that on anyone :P
Or better, discuss migraine issues and/or how it differs from a regular headache. Want to get them to stop, say "Oh, you get migraines? Me too. Thank Gosh someone knows what I going through. You would not believe all the people out there that compare their regular headaches to Migraines. But, as we both get them, we know the truth, right?". It should shame them out of it in the future. Those that play (but aren't sufferers) along need a psych. consult and should not be in your lives anyway.
I get them on average about 2 - 3 times a year. Mine start with losing the ability to read which is quickly followed by large blurry visual disturbances that always drift off to one side. These usually clear up in 30 minutes and then about 45 minutes to an hour later the headache kicks in along with intense nausea and vomiting. This phase lasts about 4 - 5 hours and after that I'm usually back to normal but often with strained/pulled muscles from retching. Fortunately the visual disturbances are a giant red flag for me that my migraine is incoming and give me time to prepare. After doing a lot of research and several doctor visits I've found that I suffer from migraine with aura (scintillating scotoma) which is the result of a cortical spreading depression. I suspect my migraines are provoked by stress but I am honestly not sure. If they are caused by stress then it must be a delayed trigger because I've gotten migraines even while relaxed and calm. I cannot seem to nail down one single obvious cause for mine. But yeah... if you want to call a migraine a normal headache that would be like calling the flu the common cold.
Yeah i usually have about 4-6 migraines per year, but they don't always start with visual things. I do remember my worst one though, i had a blue and yellow blip floating in my right eye, and within 10 minutes i couldn't see out of my right eye. It cleared up after a few minutes, and you can probably imagine what happened after that :/
I havn't had visual disturbances in my vision for a long time, but I used to get it isolated from any other issues. My vision would blur, like miniature lightning strikes in my right vision, grow from 1-3% of my vision to more like 75% then disappear without me realising. All without any other symptoms like headaches or nausea.
Mines exactly the same, mine begin with a blur in my eye, that's when I know ive got a migraine coming, after about 30 mins it turns to a bad headache, followed by a bad stomache and vomiting. Once I get the blur in my eye I just try to sleep through it
I've only had the visual deals twice, and once it was alongside numbness on the left side of my face& body. Went to the docs and they had to test. (I had been hiking in the mountains, so maybe altitude related, but never had issues before or since) I *do* know that drinking diet 7-Up or diet Sprite will induce a neck ache, followed by a migraine. Diet cola (coke, pepsi, etc) don't cause the problem, and neither do grape, orange or fruit punch PowerAide Zero. The artificial lemon/lime along with Apsartame seems to be the trigger. Weird.
I've found that if I take a 90mg Pseudoephedrine tablet right at the first signs it greatly reduces the overall affects. Has to do with restricting blood vessels.
Great episode! Thanks for informing people that a migraine is not just any old headache. There's more that can be done that just seeking out a dark, quiet room and letting the migraine storm its way through your brain, though. There are lifestyle, nutraceutical and medication options for prevention and for acute migraine treatment. Well done!
Iv had them since I was a toddler and daily my head hurts I hate it but I did just start on injectable medication today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed this will be a life changer
I have at least 2-3 migraines a month. And a regular headache almost daily now. I played 20 years of contact sports which led to nearly 30 concussions with over 15 majors ones. Plus a bunch of fights through out the years that ended with me hospitalized. I associate my migraines to all those things however what I was unaware of was the side effects from them which explains a lot for me plus the vision and balance problems.. never together but randomly every once in a while my vision will go all wonky and also randomly but a lot more frequently, my balance will go off like the whole world got tilted to one side. So at least I know the migraine isnt the only problem. Ill add... The dark room and pure quiet isnt even enough now... all I can do in the depths of it is just deal with the pain as simple meds do nothing.
STILL MY FAVOURITE VIDEO ON TH-cam 2 YEARS LATER, Sick of people saying oh I have a migraine... really and youre here... at the bar... in town ... at work ... and just took 2 advil and youre ok ... really ... nope you just have a headache
I started getting migraines when I was 19, my very first migraine lasted for over 4 months straight before it finally went away, it was NOT fun I felt like a vampire having to wear shades all the time, only wanting to come out at night, and sitting in dark rooms by myself!! -_- Still get them to this day (I am 22), but at least I know my triggers now, most of it has to do with fast extreme weather changes from hot to cold or cold to hot, on the bright side I know when it is going to rain before the weather channel does!! XD What I hate most about migraines is people never see it as a big deal and just brush it off like it is a stress headache and not like it is something that feels like your skull is being split open with a pick axe!! :'(
Is it possible to have very weak migraines? I recognize all of these symptoms, more often than not in the precise order and fashion like you said, but nowhere near as severe. Or is that just something else?
I'm guessing you just have weaker symptoms, but migraine nonetheless. I've had many migraines when I was younger, and one severe one with vomiting which lasted half a day (with two days of recovery time), so they can vary a lot.
It is possible, as a chronic sufferer I can say my migraines vary in severity. The main way I know its a migraine is location, how it feels and if most painkillers don't work but my triptan does.
I have minor migraines that are triggered by muscle stiffness (I have this problem in my shoulders) combined with a mild food allergy to nitrates (processed meats, citrus). The headache lasts about 5-10 minutes with rapid onset.
I only get an aura sometimes. I see a sparkle, and it's my warning a migraine is coming sometime in the next 24 hrs. I have one right now, had no warning. I'm glad I watched this, it explained the weakness I felt before this migraine started.
Bright light triggers my migranes. That said, summer is the worst, but I have 5 pairs of sunglasses. Sunglasses are my best friend, and not because I'm trying to look cool.
That's pretty interesting. Most of my migraines occur during the wintertime, and are caused when I have drastic changes in my sleep schedule. Time zone changes can suck pretty hard sometimes.
This video is the perfect explanation. Mine are triggered by weather changes, smells, particular kinds of foods and definitely bright sunlight. He talked about everything I experience, from aura with loss of vision to slurred speech, the needle sensation in my palms and mouth, to vomiting and nausea. The severity of my headaches is indescribable. Mine last for about one full day. During that time it's absolutely necessary that I must rest in a dark, silent room. I got it from my Mom, who I think, got it from hers. Quite a cycle I tell you. I had my first attack when I was about 10 years old. I was on my way to school in the bus when I experienced my very first "aura". Needless to say I very much panicked but I did not tell anyone, which was a bad decision because it developed into a full blown migraine attack. I'm 21 now and I've learnt to deal with it. If you get migraines then know that even though it's terrible, you must fight it with a strong will.
I have found my place in the internet you are all my people let's have a convention where we all get together just so we can unanimously sympathise with each other
Thank you!! Every time i cancel plans or call out of work due to a migraine i get scorned, they say "oh it cant be that bad"... YES, it is that bad!
Do you take meds?
You should go for vipassana meditation. You will eventually get rid of it.
+Sabeth Drake "It's like theres a spike IN MY EYE."
+Sabeth Drake you actually get the same problems with a panic disorder. You tell someone you can't do something because you have panic attacks, and they think "it can't be that bad."
Fortunately, unlike migraines, all you have to do is have a panic attack around someone before they believe you.
"... do it very quietly *screams* THANK YOU"
>:3 yea
YEAOUCH!!!! 😄
t...h...a...n...k...y...o...u
Capstonegem haha I laughed so hard at this! Probably made my headache worse
Capstonegem I do enjoy a good hi five
That amazing feeling when a migraine leaves xD
+Ed, Edd n Eddy I used to have them normally during the evening about a year ago. Luckily that usually meant I was at home, and taking medicine and lying in bed with a pillow over my head works wonderfully. For me it gradually goes away, so I think, "Oh hey, it's gone! Maybe I can go open my eyes- NOPE, NOPITY NOPE NOPE NOPE BACK INTO THE TURTLE SHELL".
Yeah!
+Blue Night I tried this once and I never stayed very long looking at the mirror. But that was when I was in my teens. Maybe I will try this but I just hope this never comes back, I do not miss it. At all.
+RainbowRoad AJ Same...
+Ed, Edd n Eddy BEST. FEELING. EVER
I know it's really annoying this kid told me it's hard to believe that a certain thing can give me a magarine
"You can keep watching, but just do it...very...quietly."

"THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!"
"ARE YOU OPEN ON THURSDAY?!?!"
NO PROBLEM GIRL...PLS GOOGLE THE JENDOM FORMULA AND THE JENDOM THEORY OF MIGRAINE.....
I think people believe they'll get more sympathy if they call every stupid headache a migraine.
exactly
Thank you. I can relate.
I get complex migraine which look like seizures so I'm fine
does anyone have trouble reading or writing when they have a migraine, because I do
It's hard reading, writing, or doing anything for most people suffering from a migraine
Yea. I have trouble with reading when I have migraines. I usually don't write during them so idk about that.
I have trouble with everything. If i want to go somewhere i have to crawl since walking can be hazardous. Plus while crawling i have to feel my way since everything gets so bright my sight gets white washed and heavily blurred.
I can't do anything when I have one. Once I collapsed in the hallway on my way the bathroom because I suddenly couldn't walk.
Exact same here
So true 😩 when I hear that I just wish I can transfer my migraine to them even if it just is for 5minutes then they will know the pain we feel.
when i have a migraine and notice getting the headache, the only thing that seems to help me is go to sleep immediately. once i'm asleep, it mostly goes away within a few hours and without me throwing up. so the only problem is falling asleep with a feeling like someone trying to pierce my temples.
You're lucky. I had migraine while sleeping a couple of times and it woke me up in a really bad way... x(
yeah, that happened to me before, too :/ that's why i wrote "mostly"
Naburi same, I had it for like one whole week nonstop and it woke me up at night :(
Yeah, I be only ever had 1, and I was 7, and slept for 2hrs, woke up, and it was gone
After I go to a dark room and try to rest until I feel better :)
same
High five to all of you who get migraines!
✋
+AndromedaRandom Do it softly.. please.
Ha
Woke up with one of these babies today and puked three times, although I hadn't eaten or drank anything. I couldn't even take my meds. Ugh. What a lovely Easter. 😷😢
Thx they are SO annoying
Thank you for this.
Hi Erin, have you heard of thermal micro-cautery as a natural and effective treatment for migraine ? ayurveda-migraine.com/ th-cam.com/video/C8iYCl8-GcI/w-d-xo.html
Thanks~ I’m scared of driving often for this reason
Sometimes, when I have a migraine because of lack of sleep I'm like:
I have a migraine because I don't sleep. I don't sleep because I have a migraine...
i have a migraine cuz i sleep at 4am and wakes up at 2pm i mean im a teenager and this is what we do... right?
I have that but with eating. I'll get a migraine from not eating and I won't be able to eat because I have a migraine.
me too
As a migraine sufferer, I can't even begin to explain how much I love the title of this video.
I've had a migraine before. So far it's only happened once, but by God was it the worst thing I've ever experienced. Those of you who deal with them on a more regular basis, you have deepest sympathies.
I thought I was having migraines, then I realized they were just hangovers from drinking in my sleep.
i used to get really bad migraines as a kid i would vomit and get dizzy, sounds and smells would make me sick and light was excruciating! they have got a lot better now that i am an adult. Now its just horrible pounding pain and i cant move too fast or bend down because it makes it hurt even more.
our symptoms are very similar...yet after all the tests i've been through no doctor ever gave me an answer...too disapointed and too tired of this monster called migraine ruining my life!!
i hope you get some relief. my doctor pretty much just dismisses it. i mention it every time i see him but he swears its all just a simple headache
1. You use Tide or Gain or dryer sheets
2. Pizza
3. MSG
4. Weather changes
5. Perfumes or strong cleaning fluids
6. Your menstrual cycle
7. Soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, barbecue sauce.
8.Wine
They all have a common denominator. Can you find it?

I suffer pretty heavily from migraine, and the symptoms mentioned are correct. However, it is missing memory loss and a loss of time awareness. Often when I either faint from the headache or take drugs to put myself to sleep, I wake up not remembering a great deal of recent events. They return in a few hours though.
same
They are also missing temporary blindness for the particularly bad.
It's probably the sedatives that are causing the memory loss. They do that a lot.
Maybe you're right. That happened to me yesterday, and I had the worst migraine I've had in a long time today.
Maybe you're right. That happened to me yesterday, and I had the worst migraine I've had in a long time today.
OMG Yours is much worse than mine! Thanks to you I am going to take mine with a pinch of salt.
+Nirali Dundh Meh, no matter how severe, migraines can go fuck themselves! ;)
I am having a terrible one right now 😢😢😢
+Nirali Dundh I'm sorry, hope it will pass soon!
Ocular migraines. As you described, and sometimes you don't even get a head ache with them.
Sounds really similar to mine. I'll try the antacid thing next time. Thanks!
Yeah I get them without pain.
If you search ocular migraines you can see what they look like. I was out hunting one day and saw it, thought I had something horribly wrong with my eyes (both eyes were seeing the anomaly.) Turns out things like certain foods can trigger them, or they can just happen randomly.
Ben James That must have been horrifying the first time! Also, out of curiosity, do any of you guys also have issues with sleep paralysis?
Believe it or not, ever since I was 4 years old, I've experienced migraines, been to multiple doctors, specialists, therapists, etc. just to see if MAYBE anything can help. I'm 14 now and just about the ONLY thing that helps is an over the counter painkiller and maybe about 5 friggin hours of sleep. They suck.... Frankly I wouldn't wish a migraine on my worst enemies
Christina Goodrow Have you found the triggers for it? It helps to know what gives you migraines so you can avoid it.
...Believe it or not, the most random stuff can cause it. I cant eat M&Ms because they always give me extreme migraines. In all honesty, being stressed or angry can set it off, while being completely overheated does the trick...
Christina Goodrow Well, at least you know :/ And the doctors you went to didn't give you any medication? I'm on meds for my migraines...
Melica Mage im actually on like... 7 different medications. just for the migraines
Christina Goodrow Are they working?
"you can still watch SciShow but just do it very quietly.." .-.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING THIS SCISHOW
you're doomed if you see aura
WINDEX I've seen it a lot.
Sarah Birklenson same
Sarah Birklenson well im subscribing 😂
Yesterday was my worse aura really... I did feel like half of my frontal skull was pulsing and falling out.
Loss of vision, YEP parts of your central vision just vanish with migraines due to lack of blood on the back of your neck or something to your eyes...
Stoogie migraine doesn't stop blood flow or constrict blood vessels at the back of you neck, its just feels like it.
Stoogie yep
I was especially surprised by the connection between serotonin and migraines. I've suffered from depression AND migraines for more than a decade, both of which are at least somewhat effected by the levels of serotonin.
To be completely honest there probably is a link. Although mine are made worse by my congenital brain defect, I also suffer from chronic panic attacks, another serotonin disorder. Zoloft seems to be helping the headaches, and by association saving me money on pot, but sadly not the panic attacks for the most part. Thank god for clonazepam.
Same here Robert.
Zoe Rickard On the Internet acronyms can mean more than one thing. I'm guessing that you are referring to Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy?
oh nice, what i'm experiencing isn't a series of untreated strokes, but just migraines.
nice.
Ahh the irony, I'm actually home in bed with a migraine right now :/
if you had a migraine you would be screaming to the top of your lungs would not be around any light let alone a computer personal experience
cheshire cat No
cheshire cat I can use my computer when I get migraines. I generally have no sound sensitivity and heavy light sensitivity, and if I'm at home with a migraine and turn the light on the screen down, it's no biggie. Gotta stop to lie down every once in a while.
I've used my phone during a migraine attack.
"and you can keep watching sci show but just do it very quietly..."
"...AND THANK YOU!!!"
+TehFrasssaa There are two separate issues with TV, computer, phones and lights
First LED and CFL lights emit UV light at levels that should not reach your eyes.
Chris Mills
it's a narcotic painkiller,so I doubt it causes the migraine, but anything is possible I guess
"...just do it very quietly... AND THANK YOU!!" Well played, Hank.
I get migraines and I think he left out a symptom. When I get a migraine I usually go take a nap or find a dark quiet place to ride out the pain but If i go to long without taking pain killers or have to continuously work through the migraine I start trembling slightly and fumbling things.
It's not fun.
If someone had a migraine while watching this video about migraines it would destroy their brain with how often you change the pitch and volume of your voice
I'm not hating you're the best host scishow has
It is a terrible affliction and I get soooo annoyed when someone with nothing more than a mild headache stands at my desk in the pharmacy and tells me " oh i have such a migraine right now" and I'm thinking "Lady, if you were having a migraine right now you wouldn't be able to stand here and tell me about it"
I get migraines and can still work.
Wow, i cant believe they were able to do that. Did you make them aware that you suffered from them before you started? i always do.
Very interesting, the central nervous system is complicated, though i never have headaches personally surprises me
I have chronic migraines and nothing has helped me for the 3 medicines i take daily to the botox my doctor recommended (even though im technically underage) i get them a few times a week (aprox.
:o Just an assumption, though.)
But I know that feeling...
Lmfao it might be that way for you if you started smoking, i already do it does not help but it does not make it worse
I like to send this video to anyone who doesn't understand what migraine is/assumes they're just bad headaches. Thank you for this
I got such a bad migraine I had to spend the night at the hospital, I clutched my head when ever I moved the slightest bit, I barfed from the pain, I cried, and they put these things on my head to see what was going on in there. Turns out I got a really bad one... not a surprise.
The food was really good at the hospital, though.
I died then came back to life because of a migraine
My attendance during year 9 of school was around 45% because of migraines. Not fun.
Same but I went home the same day and mine are basically sizures with more symptoms
I had HORRIBLE migraines when I was 15 to 18, I did know they where a serious problem back then all I knew was it hurt and I wanted the pain to stop, I took so many pain killers for a period of over a year and I unknowingly ended up with substance abuse problem =(
the doctor kept telling me I was addicted and I wouldn't believe him, so he told me if I really could stop anytime I wanted I should show him and stop and then come and see him in week.
it was the most pain I felt in my life, nothing "non pill like" helped but I managed to stop taking them and after a few months even my migraines all together stopped.
in a few years I started taking pain killers again but now Im responsible enough to know to not ever do it and to take them when needed =)
This is such a good video. i want to show it to all of my friends so i don't have to constantly reiterate what a migraine is.
+Pearl Carol Me too.
Thank you, now I can show this to my friends who say I over react my migraines.
Keep watching sci show, just really quietly (then yells) AND THANK YOU FOR WATCHING SCI SHOW!
Make me laugh out loud. I'm glad other noticed :D
Unhealthy doses of pain killers that MIGHT stop the onset if you got to the pills fast enough.
smoke some weed
My GF gets them, weed helps a lot
No thanks. I don't like intoxicants.
Whoa...That seriously made me feel you, damn. I can't imagine that.
***** If you have a remidy and don't want it, then blame yourself. You want synthetic pills to relieve the pain but not a plant...
Fun fact: headache isn’t even necessarily present during a migraine.
It’s called silent migraine. Seriously, look it up.
I suffer from migraines every day... So thanks for helping me with ways to get better.
I had one after spending too many days in front of a computer and not going out of the building except for a short commute to work and getting groceries across the road for straight 15-20 days. :)
So... SO ASIAN!!!
Cool
William Man :) Personally I find it hard to generalize more than 4 billion people :)
Lol
***** best answer to these kind of comments I've seen so far!
I had migraines all the time until I went to the chiropractor. I had X-Rays and found I had scoliosis. After weeks and weeks of adjustments my migraines went away.
your not the only one, i had the exact same stuff you had =(
Chronic Migraines have destroyed my life.
YES Thank you!
If I was spiritually inclined I would argue that headaches are an evil entity, truly few things more viscous to one's well being.
I started having migraines since I was 16. Know I'm 23 and I live with constant fear of not knowing when the next migraine will start :'(
I knw exactly how you feel .. i started having them since 7 yrs old .. baloney were the trigger for me now i know that anything that have preservatives like sulphate are triggers.
I've had them for my entire life, and trust me, you get used to the minor ones, but the major ones hits you every time.
My nose is a walking Migraine detector, I could make a living picking people who suffer from migraines.
1. You use Tide or Gain or dryer sheets
2. Pizza
3. MSG
4. Weather changes
5. Perfumes or strong cleaning fluids
6. Your menstrual cycle
7. Soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, barbecue sauce.
8.Wine
They all have a common denominator. Can you find it?
mrgetrealpeople That migraine has triggers is common knowledge, no offense, but it is different for everyone.
The first time I partially lost my vision I was so scared D:
I couldn't even see the numbers on my phone to call my mom ;,(
veazix UGH I know it’s the worst
"Just do it very quietly ... *THANK YOU!!!!*
This video will go viral, be some of the first to see...
Just Uploaded: Epic Nuclear Attack Prank…OMG!
Ive layed down all day never moved and I got up so quickly that I blacked out. I woke up on the floor. Doesnt happen if Ive been drinking enough water.
*****
stop fucking spamming tha to everyone. nobody wants to see your stupid video.
and yeah i have that effect too, sometimes i get to weak when standing up that i fall back down.
Rinoa Super-Genius same actually, no idea why
See a doctor, as only with expert medical opinions can we have a greater degree of accuracy. However, do some research into the condition of vertigo.
I get migraines too, but why are you watching TH-cam videos while you have a migraine? For me, moving my eyes around makes it a lot worse.
Mine used to be triggered by artificial sweetener, low fat/sugar chocolate cakes and coke zero were the worst.
When people heard you got migraines, they think that it's just a terrible headache and usually shrugs people with real migraines. This video is good in explaining what migraine really is!
I have lost vision on multiple occasions prior to migraines
This is my routine:
- Loss of vision
- Headache
- Numbness in hands/feet/lips
- Difficulty speaking
- Repeat
wow, I thought my migranes were bad, but after seeing these symptoms I'm starting to think I get off easy with just some vomiting and head pains...
I just thought the same.
Never thought it had so many symptoms, since I only lose vision on my left eye and then get a really bad headache.
People with Self-diagnosed Migraines in 3...2...1...
Hang in there they do get a little easier to bear as you age.
Thank you for making this PSA! Most people dont understand what it's like to live with migraines
(I had been hiking in the mountains, so maybe altitude related, but never had issues before or since)
I *do* know that drinking diet 7-Up or diet Sprite will induce a neck ache, followed by a migraine.
Well done!
Oh my lord watching this while having a migraine is fucking terrible haha, his voice is so aggravating!
Same here :(
U play clash of clans?
Wow this was random and no
God damn I have a bad migraine right now
United States Of America Do you use tide or gain?
Migraine ad for this video. Not even joking.
Migraines are mostly caused by electronic frequency waves now.
Gordon Mason And let me guess, migraines can be prevented by lining your hat with tin foil...
Waltham1892 YESSSSSS!!! LOOOL the aliens are coming man, everythings gonna end!!!
who's watching this while having a migraine. God sake my head is dying
EDIT: OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW. AAAHHHHH MY HEAD. OW OW
I feel you!!
***** Same with me! i have yet to discover what is the cause...
***** no
I only get an aura sometimes.
Time zone changes can suck pretty hard sometimes.
mine are definitely caused by smell, my mother's are caused by light though.
just had my first migraine. hatin life
At least you don't get them regularly. I know someone who gets migraines 7 times per month with a monthly Botox treatment. That's down from 15.
Welcome to the club of suffering and pain
Same
This video is the perfect explanation.
