When I was 9 I started getting horrific headaches. Eventually I would get nauseous and eventually sick. I was missing a lot of school and the headaches were getting worse, and being accompanied by other symptoms (unbalanced, shaky hands, etc) so my parents brought me for a blood test, then a CAT scan. A week after the scan they packed my bags whilst I was at school and we drove to a children’s hospital 5 hours away. Turns out I had a rare tumour which was causing spinal fluid to build up in my skull * (Hydrocephalus) *. It required 2 brain surgeries to fix and some radiation therapy because of the sucker was coming back for round 2 (didn’t get ill that time, doctors spotted it quickly).
Moral of the story?/ *TLDR*: Take persistent headaches seriously, it could be something malevolent.

Had the same thing, I collapsed and could no longer think, vomiting was part of the process, have not been the same since! I am 29 now. All I got back then was, "go to bed" I was crying with constant hurt. Doctors done nothing, so tumour 🤷‍♂️ had to put myself to bed, in the end just stopped telling people, felt soo bad (sick, shaky, vision, loss/weakness in body, light headed, a bit sweaty) after sleep i felt better. Glad you had doctors, and well parents that put you to doctors to get seen to! Who knows what could have happened!

I suffered from migraines for 20 yrs, so bad I felt like my eyeball was going to pop out and sometimes the pain would make me nauseous, sometimes vomiting helped relieve the pain. I couldn’t stand the light and sometimes noise, I had to be in the silent dark. Turns out I’m sensitive to certain foods and/or just lacked certain enzymes. I’ve switched up my diet, mainly avoiding gluten. I went from having up 2 headaches a week to zero in almost a year.

I'm so glad you were able to figure out what the cause was. I think it's the first time I've really seen a food diary/tracking situation really work, tho I do have foods that will make my migraine worse (I'm one of those who has one 24/7, the intensity just varies) and they're all foods with higher-than-average sulfur content.
      Hope you're still doing well!

I had seriously bad headaches as a child but didn't complain too bad about them because I thought they were normal. They only got worse as a teenagers and still did nothing. By my 20s I was self treating heavily with tylenol and ibuprofen and I'm worries I might have done a lot of harm.
Two things happened: the realization that I was having migraines and my mother passing away due to strokes.
One day in 2018, I had a severe migraine that caused me to go temporarily blind. I went to my doctor knowing that my mother died from a brain disease. Got referred for a CT scan. Got a call: "We need you to come in for more testing." 1 test became a battery of tests. They were testing me for everything including brain cancer.
Finally I got my diagnosis: I have moyamoya disease. A rare degenerative cardiovascular disease and the only cure is surgery. Without it, I would die, probably due to a stroke like my mother. So in fall of 2019 I had my brain surgery. A cerebral bypass on my right side. That first week post surgery was the worst pain in my life and I experienced some wonky symptoms, like losing my sense of music. But I got better.
I'm well over a year post surgery now and it's night and day. My headaches are less frequent, so are my migraines. It made me realize that I need to listen to my body. Don't take your health for granted. If you have daily headaches, that's not normal and you should talk to your doctor.

I'm 14, and for as long as I can remember I've had recurring migraines. Sometimes when it gets too painful I take painkillers, but it doesn't work all the time. Sometimes I have to endure an insane amount of pain till I can release it, and by releasing I mean vomiting. It's not only making me go through so much pain(that I want to bash my head onto a wall.), it's also causing me to take way too many pills for my age. It affects my daily life, and I have no choice. I get migraines whenever it's too hot(I live in a country with hot weather), whenever I starve when I skip a meal, when I smell a crazy strong perfume, from radiation(I'm guessing since I get it whenever I use my PC or phone too long), and sometimes I don't even know the cause :((
I just wanna be over it already broo
Edit: I didn't know those pattern thingies were because of migraine!! I see it often when it's dark or sometimes whenever I space out or just randomly. I honestly thought it was a normal thing.
EDIT, EXTRA INFO: My mother also has recurring migraines, I personally think it's inherited??

    • @Micah-NOT-TOAST

Me, my grandfather and his related nephews all have migraines and headaches that never seem to go away so I think it's inherited.
I think my migraines are a bit less severe than yours but i'll wake up in the middle of the night with vertigo and keep throwing up just to sleep for another hour.
For me I don't have the ability to focus on something for a long period of time because of the pain which sometimes causes me to skip assignments or not display my best efforts.

As a child I was told that an ordinary headache can be caused by being on the sun. I thought sun rays shouldn't cause a headache until I realized that also a cold wind can cause one, so headaches can be temperature related. Being a little scientist that I was, on one headachey evening I went to bed with a winter cap on and the pain went away or if I took a really hot shower. It worked. No need for aspirin. On a long 6 hour bus ride to Siem Reap I got a headache from that strong aircon air and I already knew that tension headaches can be neck muscles pulling on your skull, so I went for a neck massage. Again, it went away!
It's good to know what headaches are instead of just popping pills everytime you have one.

I've grown up with migraines, and I had them from every other day to once a week. Light, noise and motion sensitivity, it caused me to throw up when I was younger and I used to have a nosebleed after certain migraine attacks. My vision become blurry prior to migraine and it's a throbbing, almost pulsating pain, feels like a knife is being shoved into the skull. It usually last around 8h but it could be between 5 and 14h. I have migraines after prolonged static motion, changes in air pressure and weather especially prior to thunderstorms, nervosity, anxiety, stress or sleep deprivation. At least those are the patterns we saw, yet sometimes it didn't have any reason. Sometimes my muscles tense up from my neck down to my lower back and causes a severe pain, other times there are no physical indicators to cause pain. I learned to follow my body, sleep when I felt tired, eat when hungry and drink when thirsty, if I tried to force anything I would soon regret that. Changes internally also helps alot, even if you don't feel stressed you might still be stressed because of where you are and what's around you, so changes in scenary can help

Its like they knew I was having a headache! I've had this headache for days now, coming and going. Been taking 3 ibuprofen tabs every few hours and its not working.
    ****************
UPDATE: The day after I posted this comment, I had my blood pressure measured at my dentist appointment. It came out to 158/80! Which was really unusual for me since my blood pressure is usually between 115-130/70. I wasnt nervous or anything so it couldn't have been that. Had my bp measure at the end of my appointment and it was 160/70. I went home and used my dad's bp cuff on both my arms and it repeatedly said my bp was in the 160s and 170s. At one point it had gotten up to 191.
It all added up: I was extremely stressed out from school and been having regular headaches followed by painful migraines for 4 days in a row. I went to see the next available doctor at my clinic the same day. Turns out it was likey due to a combination of lack of sleep and stress. My bp was taken so much that day that both my upper arms became bruised and sore (from blood testing). I spent the whole day after that just relaxing and slept for most of the day. I cannot wait for this semester to be over with!!

In my college years I started having really bad migraines, the ones that include auras and even some dysphasia. After going to many doctors, one of them (Im still so grateful for this man 10 years later) hit the jackpot, my migraines were the result of whiplash injury (from a car accident when I was a kid). He then advised therapy and aerobic exercises, and i haven't experienced another aura migraine ever since!

We believe what triggered them was an emotional stress due to a family member passing out because that's around the time she started having them. She went to the doctor and made a lot of tests and they found nothing that could explain her migraines. She's now diagnosed with chronic migraines and had to go a couple times to the emergency because her migraines were soo intense nothing could make them go away. We're now to the point where she litreally has headaches on a daily basis and nothing seems to work out fine to relieve the pain. Last option would be medical botox injections (which is completely different from esthetic botox injections) as it seems to have worked for a lot of migraine patients. It has proven to reduce the amount of migraines one has by 50% and sometimes even more. Hopefully we can find something to help relieve her pain 🙏🏾

Great vid for the most part, but this has one pretty substantial inaccuracy at 0:37 - Trepanning IS still used today. It's interesting because it's among the most ancient techniques that are used today. However, it's obviously not used for headaches, it's used for swelling of cerebrospinal fluid...which often manifests itself as severe headaches. Plus, modern equipment is obviously much less intrusive than that used in ancient Greece. It's not outright wrong, but it's definitely misinformative to say "doctors today don't resort to power tools or trepanning."

For those who experience minor headaches (like those on one side of the head), I suggest you give meditation or short-burst breathing a try. For the short-burst breathing, try to isolate yourself away from any noise around you, get a place to sit (in a meditation position if possible), close your eyes, and breath in and out quickly by inhaling/exhaling about 10% of your lungs total capacity. It should feel like you're doing 2 inhales and 2 exhales in one second. Try breathing using your mouth.
It really works wonders for me. It doesn't get rid of the headache completely, but you should find the beating pulse reduced a lot (if you're lucky it could go away entirely). It could take some 5 to 15 minutes depending on how you do it. Hope it works for anyone reading this.

My mother had a headache every day. Her migraine pain was so severe that she fainted for a short time. We went to the different doctors many times and finally a doctor said that my mother clenched her teeth while she was sleeping.
Apparently, her chewing muscle (masseter muscle) is swollen from clenching her teeth too much.
This chewing muscle would trigger migraines too much and cause persistent headaches and earaches.
With the botox procedure ( bruxism botox ) applied to the chewing muscle, the pain is now relieved. I hope it was useful to you. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

One day, I went to work feeling rather off from a night of carousing. About an hour after my shift began, I started getting distortions in my vision -- a weird, shimmering kaleidoscope-like effect that expanded, and could be seen in each eye's field of vision in the same quadrant, until it covered nearly 1/4 of the visual field. Recognizing it was some sort of brain-related issue, I called for an ambulance, but by the time they arrived (which was quickly!), the distortion in my vision was already starting to fade. I spent 5 hours in the ER, had a CAT scan and an MRI, and was, at the end of all this, told by a rather disgusted ER physician that they had found nothing wrong with me.
Which is great, right? However, there was still the mystery of just what had happened to me, this bizarre, unnerving brain malfunction that came entirely out of nowhere.
I reached out to folks on the social media I prefer to use, and described the event in detail. A week later, one of my friends from Texas piped up, as soon as he saw it, and told me that what I had experienced was a migraine aura without pain -- I had experienced the one and only silent migraine of my entire life (then, mid-40s). If it ever happens again, I'll know better than to run to the ER without giving the condition the 20-30 minutes or so it usually takes to resolve.

I get migraines all the time. I’ve been to the hospital many times also had brain scans, tried tons of different medications. I hate migraines so much, I normally vomit from them and my vision gets so blurry. My mum used to get migraines too and she used to get injections to stop them, never worked for her though.

My last migraine lasted about 2 weeks without a break, it was horrible. I have been suffered from migraine since I was 19. it started when my parents divorced.
