hi jen , when did you suspect ? a great underrated sci fi gem " predestination" is an aussie adaption of r a heinleins awarded short sci fi "- all you zombies" , written 1958
If you want to react to another good science fiction, I recommend: SUNSHINE with Cillian Murphy and Chris Evans, directed by Danny Boyle, basically it is about the sun is going out, and that is causing the agony of the earth, and a mission is prepared in a special ship that will go to the sun, to leave a nuclear bomb of the most powerful in history, to explode it in the sun, to revive it and make it shine again as always.
One of Tom Cruise’s most underrated films. It has everything you would want from a sci-fi movie. The visual effects were top notch, great action sequences, an amazing soundtrack and an interesting story with some nice twists and turns.
It was also during his peak couch-jumping, "Tom Cruise is crazy" era... combined with a trailer that went too far in explaining what was going on. Great movie, and also a lot of things around it that didn't go right.
Lol it's funny you mentioned Edge of Tomorrow, the plot has a lot of similarities to Oblivion. The ending is practically the same damn scene in both of them.
An insane behind the scenes detail: to make the house look like it was in the clouds, they sent a film crew to the top of a mountain for a month to film a 360° view of the sky at all times of day and weather conditions. Then they built the house a few feet off the ground on a sound stage and surrounded it with a 42' tall by 500' long projection screen and used 21 projectors to fill that screen with the footage they took on top of that mountain. It had to have been a nightmare to get all those projectors working properly, but the results are stunning.
Visually (And audibly) STUNNING. They actually built the "Bubble Ship" with Tom's input as a pilot. They had a full scale ship built, with working motorized doors, and rotating engines, as well as a mock up cockpit that actually spun on all three axis, so during the chase scene when you see the Seat Belt harnesses flapping around due to G Forces (or the actresses hair), That is really the actress and Tom in the 3D movement cockpit. Tom:: "Are you okay ?" Julia: "No !?!?!?!?!" Yup, that was the actresses reaction to being flung around in her chair.
I had never heard of this movie and randomly watched it on cable one night. I was blown away. It’s honestly one of my favorite movies. It fully justifies the schmaltzy ending with plot. And I love Olga Kurylenko.
Underrated sci-fi: "Moon" with Sam Rockwell and "Solaris" with George Clooney. If you want something more mainstream that will get you more views, but is still awesome, "Minority Report" with Tom Cruise.
I agree on all these three. Jen, please do reactions on these! Minority Report is better than Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow. Of the movies I have watched with Tom Cruise, it's my favourite.
Tom Cruise make sure when he is piloting the aircraft in the movie that the piloting was realistically simulated . Everything he does was accurately portraits(most of the time). Even the ways he was handling his Rifle. He is just an perfectionist with little bit of an death wish. Respect 100% for his passion and love for his dream job.
Same here. A buddy of mine loaned me the DVD. I loved it so much, I bought my own copy. I must have watched it 20 times since then. That soundtrack gives me chills every single time.
I knew you would love the OST, like mentioned, M83 said that they greatly were inspired by Hans Zimmer music for Batman. They did an amazing job being inspired but not copying...putting they're amazing touch to it
One last thing.... The "Chrysler Building" as you called it, is actually the Empire State Building. I know this because I had a 3D puzzle of it when I was a kid, and the top piece(which is what you see in the film), kept falling off of it. Also the fact that they were selling King Kong plushies points to it being the Empire State Building. 🤓
This movie was what helped me fall in love with atmospheric techno music like M83, and also has my personal favorite visual aesthetic when it comes to post-apocalypse films. Definitely Tom Cruise's most underrated movie.
This movie really took me by surprise. It was so good. Yeah, some schmalz but not too much. But it's really the audio of the movie that sells it. I loved the sound effects of the drones, for instance. And M83's score is really good. The closing theme also called "Oblivion" which features Norwegian singer Susanne Sundfør is soooo good. Something about that French horn holding those looong drawn notes just spoke to me. It was also covered by Dutch singer Floor Jansen with a more metal arrangement and that one also works really well. Worth checking out, Jen. Great reaction. That jaw drop when you recognised Morgan Freeman's voice was the highlight for sure. :) Looking forward to the next one.
"You can't erase love..." Truer words have seldom been spoken. It's true, you cannot erase love, nor can you forget it or make it go away. But, there are days when I wish, I truly wish, I could.
As far for recommendations I will say: 1998 "Soldier" with Kurt Russell 2005 "Stealth" with Jessica Biel 2013 "Ender's Game" with Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld 2019 "Alita Battle Angel" The next one is not really a sci-fi, but absolutly worth to watch, the anime movie: 2016 "Your Name" (original name: Kimi no na wa)
All of those are bad except Alita. Soldier is boring. I actually fell asleep in the theater during that, the first and only time I have ever done that. Stealth is just plain dumb. Stealth iss the worst kind of hacky 2000's action/science fiction film. Ender's Game is a soulless adaptation that got everything wrong, including the ages of the kids. Alita is fun, underrated, a really nice movie. It also has a female lead character done right, in a time when that was (and is) all too rare.

" FREQUENCY " ,I don't know if it's considered sci-fi, but definitely falls under the underrated umbrella, I think you'll like it, staring Dennis Quaid and James Caviezel. ❤
The amount of practical effects that this movie has is amazing. That's why it looks so good. It's a gorgeus movie, it has an amazing and powerful sound, great acting... loved it on cienmas, it looked huge.
I loved this movie, its always been in my list of favorites. The movie was pretty much written just for Tom Cruise and the set was built surrounded with a massive screen that they projected 360 degree video shot from on top of a mountain to build the skies. They had to do that because the surfaces were so reflective it was the only way to make it look real was to get everything in the reflections. The actress who played Julia was legitimately terrified when in the craft, it was on a gimbal and really did spin and turn upside down while filming. The behind the scenes are definitely worth watching. If I recall, the actress that played Victoria hated it, it was apparently a very lonely and isolating experience for her.
THe quote of Horatius at the bridge gives me utter chills. "To every man upon this earth Death cometh soon or late. Based on your enthusiasm for M83 (the band, not the galaxy), I'll have to check them out. I really like the song that plays over the end credits. Jen, you are consistently terrific. You just don't do subpar reactions.

There are many more but these are some good ones.
Hey Hey there Jen Murray. Hope this was a good week for you. I watched this twice in a row when I first purchased it on dvd. Absolutely love your reaction to it. ❤ Have a great weekend.
One of the most underrated movies of the last decade and maybe this century overall. Glad it is getting the attention of the various reaction channels.
What elevated this film for me was the use of Macaulay, and his "Lays of Ancient Rome", one of my favourites. "...and how can a man die better, than facing fearful odds, for the ashes of his fathers, and the temples of his gods..."
M83 did an amazing job on the soundtrack. Like you, it gives me chills every time I watch this movie. I must have seen it 20 times by now. I also have several of the songs on my phone.
The music for this movie is the standout for me. I really love the movie, but that music!!! The song at the end gets me every time. "Undimmed by Time" Lone pianos always get me. Same for the song "Memories" (someone we'll never know) from Moon.
This is one of my top ten sci-fi films. Great storyline, very unique landscape/cinematography & special effects. Jen, you asked for more movies, here are four that I think are very interesting: “The 27th Day”, “THX 1138”, “Logan’s Run” & “Passenger”. Hope you add these to your list.
That was a great reaction Jen! Your reaction reminds me of my reaction when I first saw this film. The effects, storyline and score was simply amazing! And I believe this is one of Tom Cruise's most underrated films. I enjoyed it from beginning to end, and I'm glad you did as well. I love watching your channel, Jen, and I am always looking forward to your next flick show! 🎥🍿❤️
Thank you for reacting to this movie, Jen! There aren’t many reactions to this underrated masterpiece on YT. It’s truly stunning and the music is INCREDIBLE 🖤
An audio and visual masterpiece! I loved this movie so much when it was released that I saw it 8 times in the theater… stunning! One of my all-time sci-fi movie favorites 🖤
One of my very favorite films. When it was in the theater the sounds of those drones with the deep bass was absolutely amazing…reverberating through your bones. Super cool. Here is another underrated film, Outlander with Jim Caviezel…sci-fi film from 2008.
So happy you did this reaction Jen. Cool movie. Watched it several times. However I'm always sad the version of Jack that sacrificed himself is the one who's journey we as the audience spent 95% of the movie following, before the shocking reveal of the other Jack clone. The other clone is a lucky man ending up at the cabin with Julia and her adorable daughter. Instant family. Side note: The fictional bubbleship aircraft Jack flys is awesome. I want one.
I'm so glad you did this one. It's one of my very favorite Sci-Fi movies, and one of favorite Tom Cruise movies. I don't know why it flies so much under the radar. You've done Edge of Tomorrow. You might want to look at Minority Report as well. It's also good Sci-Fi with a plot twist, and Colin Farrell to boot. btw, you're a doll. Keep up the great work!
Great film. It all works out in the end. But you have to feel for Vicka (Victoria). She loved him when he was married, then got him when they were a team, only to lose him again. All she wanted was to live with him in her own paradise.
Yeeeessss this film is so under-appreciated, hopefully other channels will watch it soon. The structure and delivery of the story is one of my favorite in the genre, I wish more sci-fi fans knew about this movie
One of my favorite movies. Knife fight in a phone booth is the name of the track for the drone attack near the end of the movie. Just one of the many cool things about this movie.
I don't care what anybody says, this is one of my all-time favorite films, and I'm still pissed about how the movie critics trashed it when it came out... : (
Another great sci-fi movie for Tom Cruise. Tom is a phenomenal actor across all genres. Thanks for reacting to this. It was like seeing it again for the first time.
This is one of my favourite films of all time! I love everything about it the story, the cinematography, the performances and the music is amazing. The movie is so underrated. Also the director made Tron: Legacy and Top Gun: Maverick. Im glad you enjoyed it.

Good Afternoon, Jen💝and I cannot "Thank You" enough for finally watching this one! I can't believe or understand how this Movie has become so "over looked" lately, because it's absolutely Awesome! Easily one of Tom Cruise's Best; an Epic Post-Acocalyptic Thriller with Mind-Blowing Surprises and one of the most Mesmerizing Scores that I have ever heard!👍 FUN-FACT: this was Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who later worked with Cruise again to make "Top Gun: Maverick!"✌
Jen & Sci-fi is a great combination. I watched this around when it came out and I didn't remember too much, so I really enjoyed rewatching it with you. I didn't know you were a gamer! I'm playing Stellar Blade right now. It's great and has some similar themes as this movie
Great reaction Jen! 😊 my Sci Fi suggestions are THX 1138 or of course 2001:A Space Odyssey. Both very stylish, one by Kubrick one by Lucas. Thanks again Jen! See you Sunday 😊
The music is what makes this movie. The story is fantastic. The characters, the plot, the unknown all make it what it is. But, the music! Portrays the world, the people, the questions that remain.
Forgot all about this movie. It’s pretty wild and I agree, this needs to be a video game. It’d be so cool flying around, landing and scouting out places on a post-apocalyptic Earth like this. It kind of reminds me of Death Stranding with the landscapes
This movie has some brilliant and subtle foreshadowing, particularly around the Drones - they make these weird, alien noises and are blatantly programmed to target humans, as evidenced by the drone targeting Jack before he tells it that he's a Technician. The relationship between Vika and Jack has an uncanny quality... even their picture doesn't look quite right but we don't realize it until we see the staging of the original later in the movie. Everything about the Tower, Vika and Jack, Sally, the Drones, and the Tet is meant to produce a feeling that things aren't right, and most viewers get suckered into thinking that it's not intentional.
Yeah, I didn't quite know what was going on, but the "Effective Teams" bit and that Sally was so obviously compiled from some prexisting fottage really triggered my "Something ain't right" radar pretty early on.
Their home was built inside of a projector dome and then rear projected a timeloop of a real 360 sky recording off Mauna Lea in Hawai'i. That little movie magic bit was so amazing to me.
Tom Cruise doing a Sci-Fi feature was something cool. Totally sold on what i saw in the trailers. Director Joseph Kosinski after Tron Legacy (2010), I was stoked to see his next film. Ever more awesome, it's based upon an unpublished graphic novel that he wrote. The music by M83 is very good, original score and the Oblivion theme song. It does indeed pay homage to the genre as it was in the 1970s from what Kosinski grew up on. Visuals, Set design, costumes, practical, etc ate all well applied. Storywise, it is a brilliant look at humanity of the future questioning itself and existence. Jack (Cruise) still remembers the most vital memories of his life while others just want to forget it. Melissa Leo (Tet) & Morgan Freeman (Beech) are pretty good in the roles of keeping and revealing the bigger picture in this scenario. Didn't miss this in IMAX. Very impressive. Most definitely considered underrated for the 2010s. Cruise & Kosinski would team up again and make history with Top Gun:Maverick, 9 years later.
I saw this film at the cinema when it first debutted-WOW-what a movie-going experience. The CGI,cinematography, atmosphere and special effects were the BEST I'd ever seen in a sci-fi film at that time. The story was okay.
What definitely helps to make this film is the score done by M83’s Anthony Gonzalez, and co-producer and famous movie composer, Joseph Trapanese. Due to the smashing success and popularity of M83’s “Midnight City”, Universal Studios pushed for Gonzalez to credit the band for the soundtrack, when in fact, it was almost entirely Gonzalez and Trapanese who composed the soundtrack; Trapanese still got co-producer/composer credits.
I love how this, Edge of tomorrow and Last Samurai ending both have Tom Cruise walking back to the girl, stop and smile. Just start playing "Love you again" over the scene, it becomes a meme.
Absolutely agree. He had two amazing Sci-Fi movies in a row. This one and edge of Tomorrow, I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise as a person but hell he makes some great movies.
Tom Cruise made two great movies for perfect SF double-feature - „Oblivion” and „Edge of tomorrow”. Both of them were visionary at the time of their premieres and both aged really well. Good work Tom 👊🏻👍🏻
Top 20 films for me of the last 25 years. Ultra underrated. Director also did Tron legacy and M83 did an amazing score. The final song on the movie was awesome too.

Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow, Looper, Interstellar and Ex Machina were all released around the same time. They restored my faith in classic sci-fi.
looper was just ok. easily forgettable compared to the rest you mentioned.
That was then. Lately...........
Lol it's funny you mentioned Edge of Tomorrow, the plot has a lot of similarities to Oblivion.
The ending is practically the same damn scene in both of them.

@@jenmurrayxo Thank you, Jen, I can't remember all your reactions. I've just added a few more.
Love every recommendation here Adam. I think she would really enjoy 'Moon' with Sam Rockwell.
@@e.d.2096 I think so too, Eric, it's a really underrated film, one which I think Jen would really enjoy.
Yes! Such an underrated movie. Getting M83 to do the soundtrack was a masterstroke. I'm curious what Jen will think.
I forgot how fucking amazing this movie was. The aesthetic and soundtrack are top tier 👌🏻
Paycheck, Next are two underrated movie adaptations of Philip K. Dick's stories.
I absolutely love this movie. Saw in the theater. You should see all of the behind the scenes making of videos on the DVD. Absolutely amazing.
Ah I've always loved this movie, I could listen to those drone noises all day long
What elevated this film for me was the use of Macaulay, and his "Lays of Ancient Rome", one of my favourites.
"...and how can a man die better,
than facing fearful odds,
for the ashes of his fathers,
and the temples of his gods..."
Cool movie ! Nice visuals and audio 🤘
Underrated film! I love it! This is my #1 home theater audio test movie. haha. The sound design is INCREDIBLE.
I want one.
One of my all-time favourite movies... I think I'll watch it again before watching your reaction! It's been a few years now... Good choice!!
This movie is SO in my wheel house. Sci-fi, end of the world stuff with cool gadgets (the bubble ship). Great movie.
"When you see a hole, go in it" is a dangerous life motto that inevitably leads to a lifetime of medication and shame. OK, I'll see myself out...
One of my favorite movies. Knife fight in a phone booth is the name of the track for the drone attack near the end of the movie. Just one of the many cool things about this movie.
"Moon" is out of this world......
Im glad you enjoyed it.
the "Fuck off.." was great when she saw the second Jack lmao
Just popping by to wish everyone an amazing time , have fun in chat and don't forget to LIKE the video to help Jen and the channel out 👍 Jen's not just the best she's also the caterpillars kimono 👘
Good Afternoon, Jen💝and I cannot "Thank You" enough for finally watching this one! I can't believe or understand how this Movie has become so "over looked" lately, because it's absolutely Awesome! Easily one of Tom Cruise's Best; an Epic Post-Acocalyptic Thriller with Mind-Blowing Surprises and one of the most Mesmerizing Scores that I have ever heard!👍
FUN-FACT: this was Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who later worked with Cruise again to make "Top Gun: Maverick!"✌
Didn't know that you liked this one so much Tom? One of my favorite Cruise films also!
@@e.d.2096 😉👍
Jen & Sci-fi is a great combination. I watched this around when it came out and I didn't remember too much, so I really enjoyed rewatching it with you. I didn't know you were a gamer! I'm playing Stellar Blade right now. It's great and has some similar themes as this movie
Great reaction Jen! 😊 my Sci Fi suggestions are THX 1138 or of course 2001:A Space Odyssey. Both very stylish, one by Kubrick one by Lucas. Thanks again Jen! See you Sunday 😊
Quantum Leap from -89 is very underrated scifi series. You would love it, it's about time travel which is one of your favorite themes if i recall.
Such a fun series to watch and an interesting concept.
The music is what makes this movie. The story is fantastic. The characters, the plot, the unknown all make it what it is. But, the music! Portrays the world, the people, the questions that remain.
My top 5. 1. Undercover Brother 2. The Matrix 3. Another Earth 4. Oblivion 5. The Ladies Man
"You can't erase LOVE!" ...
Forgot all about this movie. It’s pretty wild and I agree, this needs to be a video game. It’d be so cool flying around, landing and scouting out places on a post-apocalyptic Earth like this. It kind of reminds me of Death Stranding with the landscapes
Minority Report, Oblivion, and Edge of Tomorrow are some of my favorite sci fi movies
🏆
I was pretty sure you would like this one. As for the twist, I started to get suspicious at about the third "effective team"
Whole soundtrack was dope. I dig this movie. Don’t think it gets enough love.
A much underrated movie with an exceptional score.
Logan's Run (1976). It has a very different story but the vibe is similar. I suspect it was one of the influences for Oblivion.
It's kind of if you threw Logan's Run, Planet of the Apes and some Star Trek episodes about The Borg into a blender. And that IS a compliment.
What do you think of his Mission Impossible films ????
Still baffled to this day why this film didn't get more love upon release. Criminally underrated.
I really didnt see the twist coming at all 😮 i still think we make an effective team though 🙂👌 this movie and your reaction is 🔥
I loved this movie and your reaction was enjoyable. Great editing job too!
Like Edge of Tomorrow didn't initially find the audience it deserved. Love the song, love the movie.
Honestly one his best films and highly underrated. The soundtrack is excellent to pass time working.
You'd love Space Cowboys - a bunch of 70s actors do a rag-tag Argageddon save-the-earth thing. Awesome.
