- UPDATE: Josh passed his real driving test today, on the first attempt with only 3 minor faults. Well done!
Josh has been having lessons with his instructor Mark for a few months and has his Driving Test soon. He has good car control - but does he have any other weaknesses that need addressing before visiting the test centre? In this video he will meet Mat for the first time, who will conduct a mock test to assess his driving, and give feedback afterwards. Unfortunately it’s raining today, so this will test Josh’s skills even more!

Hiya, I passed my driving test at my third attempt in London in the early 1990s and still learning new skills on different types of new roads today. Your driving videos have been a tremendous learning aid which I refer to regularly practicing in helping me to improve my driving skill set and my awareness. I think it should perhaps become mandatory for instructors to do mock tests with their students. I never had one with mine and maybe it would have lessened my nerves for my actual test had I done so.
Was agonisingly close to passing first time, made a decision to go through a meeting situation where the examiner decided I shouldn't have, went down as a serious. He didn't intervene so he must have known I could get through so felt a bit harsh. But that was one thing my nerves affected, my decision making got a little muddled and erratic when feeling the pressure.
Mirrors Josh! A lot was good, but you must check those mirrors, The biggest danger is that cyclists can easily catch you up in the slower speed limit areas, and motorbikes come whizzing up the middle. Good Luck with your actual test when it comes.
I’m exactly the same as Josh with the mirrors, not so much driver’s side but I always forget about the left hand mirror. Hopefully I’ll iron that out before my test 😂

Friendly instructor. I've heard test instructors are very very strict with no personality. I hope all instructors are like this
Thank you so much to you Both for video . he’ll do it or you wouldn’t teach him or do video’s as a lot pass from watching as I’ve said before . At 842 should he have signalled as he left the 2nd exit ? Not on approach as it’s straight on ? Booking Exam “ Friday” . and Still watching so I’ll bear all this in mind .
He did indicate to leave the roundabout! He couldn’t do it any earlier as it would have misled other drivers. 👍🏼

Thank you so much I meant on approach at 8:42 roundabout .he didn’t need to signal on approach only to exit ?
He was asked to turn left, second exit - so should not indicate on approach to the roundabout, then pass the first exit before indicating for his exit. Signalling too early would mislead others that he wanted to take the first exit - that’s why he got the fault.

The first exit of the roundabout is directly in front of me, at 12 o 'clock positive, How should I signal? Is it the signal left when I enter the circle?

Hi there, I'm doing my real test next week and it's forecasted for heavy rain😢. At the 1st serious fault, would it have been better for Josh to signal right then left at the exit or should he have just stayed in his lane and then signalled at the exit of the roundabout. Thanks for this video because I will be also driving the same car next week. Thanks very much for this video.
When taking that exit we should approach the roundabout without indicating, then signal left after the first exit. We should only indicate right when we are turning right!
Sorry meant first test 3 x hesitation. Second test lorry under cut me on the roundabout examiner told me to come of on the right hsnd lane.
do i have to put my indicator on when doing a parallel park?
That depends on whether there are other people nearby. Signal if there are, but it’s OK not to if there isn’t. 👍🏼
Hi, due to the backlog with tests, I've took longer had two test failed both first test x hesitation. Second one examiner had to tell me to come of the roundabout due to a lorry under cutting me, that wss a year ago since moved from Wolverhampton to Kent and waited 6 months for test only for my driing instructor to direct me to wrong test centre and got to the correct one too late was so upset. Im an older learner im enjoying it but still do get little nervous is this still normal. Ive now got to have a new driving instructor due to moving to different part of Kent, I'm feeling nervous to meet them i can do all my manoeuvres ok and can drive quite well as ive been told but its been a long journey for me, just waiting to book another test which will be my 3rd one, i have been learning since 2020 but due to moving and backlog of tests in Kent. Any advice for me , i start with new instructor in November and hopefully get a test booked for April time. Sorry for long message just needed bit of advice. Many thanks Karen
In your description, there is a typo on when the second serious fault occurs. It says 8:15 when really it's around 12:25.

Yes, back in 2022 it went over £2 per litre! Now it's about £1.50/L but still.....
how would you take right turn from two way road to 4 lane road, while taking right where should be merge on the left or right lane
You would need to look at the road markings at that junction before deciding how to do it.

Why have you mentioned signalling to go around park cars it’s not correct/necessary
Good example how not to drive including attitude- so many faults including serious and he was adamant he did well. Ironically examiner goes easy on him too- very odd and unprofessional. Not looking at mirrors is DANGEROUS- why you go easy on him? Friend or acquaintance? Fawlty towers episode of test drive.
If someone does faults like this everyone should be reprimanded so they learn and remember not butter up.
People pay good money for driving lessons - there is no need to ‘reprimand’ them for any driving faults they have. Instead we prefer to stay professional and explain how to improve their driving without knocking their confidence. This driver went on to pass their real driving test first time.
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool I agree with you.. It’s not nice when being reprimanded when you made a mistake. For me it affects my concentration and confidence.
as a full license holder it's refreshing to see a learner actually use proper steering technique rather than wheel shuffling.
This seems like such a hard route though. Im now petrified about my test in 4weeks. Anyone knows what test centre this is?
Our videos are filmed in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The official average pass rate at our test centre is about 40%, which is a little under the national average. Good luck on your test! 🤞🏼

When there’s no car coming and you’re doing a parallel parking do you still signal?
There isn’t any need to indicate in that situation, but you can if you like anyway. 👍🏼

At least it wasn't a real test, sucks how you can fail for the smallest thing.
It wasn't the smallest thing. It's very dangerous to almost never check your mirrors like this driver.

We always try to stay within 10 mph of any speed limit when the road is clear and safe - but are happy to slow down for any hazard or sharper bend. Good luck on your test! 🤞🏼
