I've been changing the color of items for years in Photoshop, but the white item -> black has always stumped me. Your video has been up over 6 years, I am not sure why it took me so long to find it! Thank you!
Awe, thanks! This helps a lot but like you added, it will be time consuming as there is like 6 or so people in this photo. This video helped SO much. First of all, I never knew how to use the pen tool. I'm more of a play with it and figure it out than a read the directions type of person. When it comes to watching a video though, this made it very easy to understand. Really, thanks. :)
Man, I love you. Thank you so much for this. I only have PS CS and am a graphic designer and I totally forgot about how to mask. You were so thorough in this. Thank you so much!
Great imformation! I was stuck on changing an image color with a very light value and I could not figure it out. Thanks for posting this. It really saved my bacon!!!!!
Thank you!!!! I have been searching for this answer for months, maybe even years! I never understood the importance of changing the value first. Thank you so much.
good tutorial buttt fer my picture i actually found it easier to select the color range and fill with the wanted color. This is obviously for graphics though
Hi just a quick tip. If you have a black-white image you don't need to do all these actions. Let's say you have a logo with white letters and black background and you want to have red letters. (1)create two layers -top layer: is the logo - bottom layer: is filled with red (or whatever color you like) (2)set the blending mode to "darker color" (usally this is the first menu you find above layers) (3)boom!
can i do this on CS2....cause i try and when I put layer mask hide all I can't do nothing just apearr hand insted cursor and i cant do nothig....where I wrong
Try changing a white shirt to true red without adjusting the levels. The video is long because I am talking about a lot of stuff an explaining the process. I can change a shirt to red in less than a minute. The only part that takes time is making the mask perfect, which it must be if the photo is for a professional photographer, unless you don't mind getting fired.
I'm trying to follow this video but I'm coming un-stuck at 2:26 when you start using the brush to "colour-in" over the shirt (having created a "hide all" layer mask), I try to use the brush but nothing shows up :-S Help, please! :-)

what about a black shirt to white? same process with levels + hue/saturation?
Hi!
How can I turn a colour into white?
Everytime I do, it doesn't come out white, it comes out like greyish.
Thanks!
Excellent video! So helpful! Worked perfectly :D
what if the t-shirt is color black?
I mean from black to another color?
I'm having the same issue. Much harder to change formal stock pics from black suit to a white suit for a white dress charity gala.
Thank yoooou!!!!! You saved my day too!
Thank you !
@k2dart07 It shouldn't be a problem so long as the original photo had enough lighting on the shirt.

What about changing something black to white? I have tried using inverse but it looks terrible and loses a lot of the texture.

Just dunk the white shirt into red or black dye...
why does my background change color too when I go into hue/sat (and check colorize)?
Karen McConnell You must not have isolated the shirt to its own layer. Or masked it out.
AND EVEN BLACK
hmmmmm..My layer in the palette looks just like the tutorial one. so confused
i'm gonna use this on THE amazing spiderman 3 POster
