    Here in Bangkok Honda has has battery swap stations for a commercial EV scooter they launched in 2022. My understanding is that there are a few hundred around the city. I was at Honda Cub House and saw someone pop in the back and swap the batteries on their delivery scooter. took about a minute total for them to swap both batteries. I am super excited. If they do an EV undertone I will be the first in line for one.

    If Honda makes an electric bike that is around 10k, I’d honestly consider it if the range was adequate. Any new electric OR gas Harley these days is way past 10k. And the live wire, forget ab it, its a rich persons toy.

    Looks like Honda for US market is going for more expensive units, except kids model. I would think that would include a personal model too. Still have 1940 Indian Chief and 37 Harley Knucklehead. At 60 don’t ride much and 2 daughters not interested unless I ride them. More collector items at this point but I take each one out once a month here in Florida

    Kirk, if the article was all that Mitsubishi Auto was developing for '23 MY it means the Outlander Sport / RVR won't be changed until '24 MY using the NEW Nissan Qashqai. The Rogue Sport won't be sold in USDM, Nissan is probably giving it to Mitsubishi as a US exclusive like Mazda did with the 2 Sedan giving it to Toyota as an US exclusive (both Mazda and Toyota sold versions of this in Mexico).

    Not sure if you know yet, china already have hot-swapping battery stations for cars/compact suvs! Takes less time than filling up with gas lol It would be a huge hit in the US if they brought that tech here. The station where they do it is pretty f'n cool, it's all automated with just an attendant there as a tech if needed.
    Pull up, system unscrews the mounts for the battery, jacks the car up, battery slides into the small building for charging, the system slides in and fastens a whole charged battery back in and you're off.

      Yes agreed. Sadly believe it or not it's not just motorists but the riders themselves. Its a fact many motorcyclists get into bad/deadly accidents while taking corners too quickly for their skill level. It doesn't help the fact that schools hand you a license if you take a 2 day course which only consists of 8 hours of class and barely 8 hours of riding in a parking lot. You have to do way more to get your automotive license if you do it from school.

    I personally am stoked because at the very least this means honda will be making some hopefully super high quality motors to use for swaps, personally though I think kit bikes are the future, without the complexities of an ice engine putting a motor on a frame with some batteries and some modules is so easy a child could do it, its easy to have a frame made up there are plenty of fabricators in America so now anyone can create a side by side motorcycle scooter three wheeler whatever and it would be far cheaper than buying an electric bike for 10-30k.

  • @leofreihofer
    @leofreihofer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hopefully Honda car dealers and motorcycle dealers will have battery swap stations. Would be nice for some gas stations to have these swappable battery stations too. Would be cool to have gas stations on long interstates like I95 to have these battery swap stations like every 25 or 50 miles.

    • @arcanondrum6543
      @arcanondrum6543 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, Gogoro does that. It's better for many reasons (unlimited range that's faster than a fuel stop) but the best reasons are #1. Slow charging is better for batteries. #2. Just like any resource, those used for batteries are finite so while electricity can easily become cheaper than it is now (and no, I am NOT talking about nuclear anything) battery prices will increase if we do not re-use and especially recycle battery components, precious metals, etc. What better way to make that happen than to have all manufacturers take in battery disposal/recycling. Right now, disposal costs are ALWAYS placed on the consumer, which is why so many cans wind up in the trash, even in states with deposit/refund laws.

    EV motorcycles are less attractive from an engineering perspective than electric cars because they have limited range due to their batteries needing to be small and lightweight and having poor aerodynamics.
    They work well in the city with regenerative breaking and low speeds but have very poor range at higher speeds where aerodynamics becomes more of a factor.
    I’m glad Honda is going to start introducing electric motorcycles because almost all the electric motorcycle companies that have come out recently are bankrupt and out of business maybe a large company like Honda will be able to survive the electric motorcycle market and make bikes more affordable.
    Hopefully lighter weight more energy dense batteries are on the way. I have gotten into motorcycling recently and have way more fun on my bike than in a car! I don’t even have to speed to have fun.
    I took Kirk’s advice and bought Japanese! My Yamaha should last forever and be super reliable. It was also more affordable than an American or European bike.
    The experience of owning a motorcycle is making me second guess my desire for a GR86 or GR Corolla. Now I want a Miata for my next car!
    Open air is more fun and you are more motivated to drive the GR cars like a hooligan to have as much fun as driving the Miata with the top down just chilling and rowing through gears.
