Some fonts are confusing with the letters "I" capital and "L" lowercase. I write "I" capital as a three sticks making a 90° rotated H, and "L" lowercase as a vertical stick to avoid a letter confusion.
Hello all! I want to start having more conversation in my comments so every video is going to have an unrelated discussion topic in the comment section. This videos question: What's your go to sandwich filling? Tell me your answers down below! I'm a PBJ man myself!
Even is right. At its current rate, the Moon's orbit will be approximately 40% larger than it is today. However, when the Sun starts fizzling out into a Red Giant, the gravitational effects from the dying Sun will tear the Moon apart. The Earth could be consumed, too, but if the Sun becomes a white dwarf quick enough, it's possible the Earth will be left hanging in the sky as a scorched corpse-like version of its former self.
when our sun is turning into a red giant, its mass stays the same so no gravitational changes there. if anything, it'll be lighter than what it is today since nuclear fusion n stuff.
In Spanish we say "Luna", referring the ancient Roman goddess of the moon. To be honest, the complete name of "The Moon" is Earth's Moon because there is only one natural satellite. If the Earth has more than one moon, I would call the names referring to the goddesses of the moon.
I and l need to get their own image, and stop copying one another. You'll need to copy and paste this in to a different font, to see that these are a capital "i" and a lowercase "L".
Ya know I think that sometimes? All the greatest people this planet has ever known, although I have never met them, I find it pretty cool we have all looked at the very same Moon and Sun 🤷♂️
Planet comes from the greek word for wandering star which they used to differentiate the known planets from the other spots of light in the night sky which are so far away as to appear fixed. Earth, just like Terra in latin and Gaea in greek, originally referred to the land as opposed to the sea and sky. Basically we already had name for the thing we inhabit and a term for a catagory of observed objects before we realised that the thing we inhabit also fits into that catagory. It makes sense that early astronomers would adopt moon as a general term to describe natural satellites they found orbiting other planets analogous to our Moon. e.g. Deimos and Phobos: the moons of Mars. It's quite another thing to discover a particular already known object fits a catagory of objects and then to repurpose the general term for that catagory as the name for that particular object.
It's not called Lo, it's called Io(io). 0:04 I think it's because the upper case I looks like the lower case L, so we get confused sometimes like this: Can you read this? IIIllI (in lower case it's written as iiilli)
Well at least it actually got a name before we seem to have basically given up trying to think of names for stars and started giving them random strings of alphanumeric characters instead lol.
I've always thought our moon's name was Luna, but we just call it the moon in everyday vernacular. After all, if I was on Mars I would probably call phebos and demios "the moons"
Dude, you tripped me out. I was play KSP flying to the north pole for some atmospheric studies and I hear the space theme start playing and was like... I'm 3km up? Did I venture into an vacuum anomaly here or something?
I feel the calming effect of the Moon too especially after hearing news about Doomsday scenarios and nuclear fear mongering and all that. Just looking outside and seeing Moon just chilling there as always is soothing to me
For those who want to name the Moon, I want to put forth Mona. It's a proper name, it still sounds kind of like moon, and it comes from the Old English word for moon, so we'd be drawing from our own language instead of taking from Latin all the time.
I wish there was a worldwide consensus on what we could name the moon other than just moon. Luna is nice but it would have to be a word that everyone (even the Chinese) could pronounce.
Yeah, the proper scientific name is indeed Luna (as in "lunar" and a slightly more distant relative of the word "lunatic"), and as much as I think we should start calling it that in English, I don't think we ever will because "the Moon" just flows better in conversation. Almost every language in the world has a different name for it (for cultural and historical purposes), so I don't think Luna will catch on, outside of the Romance languages
Name Explain Well, at least you tried harder than me :)) I love it when youtubers respond, it shows that you really care about us (cries just one tear of joy).
Aku Jo I'd love to reply to everyone but it's getting to a point now that I can't as I get too many comments. If I see a comment I like though I reply :)
LOL @ "Lo" :D ... as others have pointed out before me, it's actually pronounced Io; this is pronounced either as "ai oh" or" ee oh", depending on preference or your nationality, and it's spelled with the uppercase letter "i" and the lowercase "o"). Io was the first Priestess of Hera, whom Zeus seduced. Zeus, being the cheating, asshole husband that he was, then transformed Io into a white heifer so that she could not tell Hera what he did, since Io could no longer speak as a heifer... Seeing how often Zeus did this sort of thing, it really no wonder that Hera often wanted to seek revenge on his bastard children; Hera often seems like a bitchy wife, but that is only due to the fact of how often Zeus mistreated her by sleeping around with other women, girls, and boys ( Jupiter's moon Europa, as well as the continent of Europe, are named after a girl Zeus kidnapped, raped, and then abandoned in the middle of nowhere, and Ganymede, another one of Jupiter's moons, is named for Zeus' personal servant and cupbearer, a boy whom Zeus also took as a lover). I think you got confused because, on both keyboards and on the screen, the symbol for the uppercase letter "I" (ai) looks identical to the symbol for the lowercase letter "l" (el) as anyone can plainly see here, where I've typed both letters. This is not your fault, but rather the fault of shitty computer programmers who were too goddam lazy to program the parallel lines at the bottom and top of an uppercase letter "i", to make it look like a proper uppercase letter "i" (and their shitty laziness also forces me right now to use lowercase "i" throughout this comment so that there is no confusion as to which letter I am referring to).
"She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita..."
I've just discovered your channel and I like the content. However, there's one mistake in this video that's just getting to me. There is no moon of Jupiter called "Lo". It's called "Io", with a capital "I". If you get a chance, you may want to put a little caption over "Lo". Sorry to be a pedant, I really do like the work you've done on this channel. Keep it up. Cheers!
Our moon 's name is luna and my name is moon and every time i see the moon it remindes me to be strong ,smart, and myself I'm not judging but i am expressing my love for moon.
Thank you for pronouncing Uranus as you did! That means so much to me; and most certainly to others aswell. On the other hand, yet, by the same token, the "I" in "Io" is pronounced as our "E". Yet (I must ask), are you saying that you think that The Moon is Artificial, rather than Natural?
Bro as much i love your channel sometimes i cant believe when you dont know something... in astronomy the “moons” of all planets are called satellites and moon is a nickname for ours and every other satellites have their own nicknames.
My first memory of the Moon was when I was still in a car seat. All I remember was staring out the drivers side passenger window staring at this large white orb in the sky. It captivated me at the time, and still till this day. I try and check it out ever chance I can get. I'll never know when the last time I'll see it, or anything for that matter. In my Brain, it is the most recorded image besides my own hands.
3:36 well, actually the moon is moving away from the earth at about an inch a year Edit: someone already posted something similar to this comment oh well
Before watching this I simply figured the word "moon" was first used for ours (which everyone could see with no telescope) and then, when we discovered others, we called them "moons" to show they were to their planets like ours is to our planet. But then we had to name them like all other bodies out there to distinguish them among each other.
Because we can call it Theia after the ancient celestial body that is proposed to have given rise to the moon upon colliding with Earth. Theia was the mother of Selene hence the name.
Shouldn't the moon technically be considered a twin planet with the way it was formed? Other moons formed from the debris from the formation of the solar system but our moon came later when a smaller proto-planet crashed into our own and flung off debris, forming a ring which coalesced into the moon, which is unusually large compared to our planet and other planets and their moons.
As was pointed out in the video moon is a Germanic word. Moon is cognate with the Old Norse māni, and the moon had a mytholocial figure. His name in Icelandic type is Máni (probably Māni in old Norse) and he was the son of Mundilfari. Mánis sister was Sól, the sun, (also daughter of Mundilfari). Máni/Māni/Moon is a fine name, the real question is why did English lose/not have the word tungl (any moon including our, while Máni can only mean our moon or the mythological figure) :).
My Spanish teacher learned the language being a missionary. He figured since that he was a Christian and so were the natives that he'd have enough in common with him. However, you could only talk about Jesus for so long until you become boring. The only thing that comforted him was the beach, because they were the same at home. I guess it was so he could pretend to be back for a few seconds.
I have 2 cats, (named after moons, actually (technically one of them is named after a moon which is named after a god)) Luna, and Atlas, they became one year old sometime during this month.
The Latin name for Moon is Luna. The Moon doesn't have a name other than a translation of moon, because it was the only moon we even knew about when the concept of a moon first originated.
It's called Io. That's an uppercase i, not a lowercase L.
Yeah. And if someone not knowing that is going to explain names of stuff to me, I don't think it's gonna work well :q
I guess then that's where all the .io servers are at.
Wolfgang Zimpleman I looked it up and it said Indian ocean
Jupiter’s moons are named after his all the people he cheated with.
Some fonts are confusing with the letters "I" capital and "L" lowercase. I write "I" capital as a three sticks making a 90° rotated H, and "L" lowercase as a vertical stick to avoid a letter confusion.
We still call the moon "Selene" in Greek.
♞ Go Fuck Yourself ♞ i always thought its name was Luna, we just call it moon to be uniform in english
Does she reply?
Does she reply?
@@greenergrass4060 In Spanish we call it "Luna".
I wanna call it “Selene” or “Luna”. The Moon seems kind of bland
“We have one. Mars has two.”
“Jupiter has sixty-seven.”
Well, that escalated quickly.
What can we say? Zeus is popular with the Laydaes.
Jupiter has 79 lol
Jupiter actually has hundreds of moons but only like 79(ish) are named.
"jupiter has 67"
give it a few months and more will have been discovered
It's been a while since I've seen Future Perfect Tense used in a sentence. Gave me a mild nerdgasm.
Cant wait to get to 69
A Green Aborted Fetus. Correct me if im wrong, but that's
"Will have been"

Music, humor, and commentary were on point for this video. It feels like you're getting a nice rhythm going. Keep it up mate!

Pork is good! Whether it's a BLT, bbq pork, or a simple ham & cheese sandwich!
Name Explain Small correction: It's not called Lo, it's called Io.
Coronation Chicken or Bacon, Brie and Cranberry.
Turkey Lettuce Cheese and Mayo. Sometimes I would I have a pickle with the sandwich as well
Nope. The Moon will not always be there. It's moving away at about 4cm per year. Bye bye Moon! Fare ye well!
I doubt it will be out of the gravitational grasp of Earth by the end of our planets lifespan mind you
Even is right. At its current rate, the Moon's orbit will be approximately 40% larger than it is today. However, when the Sun starts fizzling out into a Red Giant, the gravitational effects from the dying Sun will tear the Moon apart.

Is human a bad name for a human?
Mollof it's a good name for a pequinino though
In Greek it's called φεγγάρι (fengari), which is the general word for a natural satellite, and (as mentioned) Σελήνη (Selini/Selene).
It's real name is luna
End of story
Tanner Mayfield, Not exactly. Luna is only the Latin name. Though it is one of the most widely accepted ones.
Riley Amato And that's how we call it in Spanish.
J el Canario, that would be because spannish is descended from latin.
Riley Amato I know, just pointing out that there are people these days that call it Luna as Romans did.

Reilly-K solaris is the latin adjective for sol. And it is a bus production factory or something
My mans really just disrespected my boy Io by calling him Lo
Just remember, when you look up at the moon, I will be looking up at the moon too. Not the same moon, of course, that's impossible.

Why not Mun?
I've always called it Luna, it just sound beautiful
What's the name of the soundtrack played in the video?
There is a Chinese poem that talks exactly about what you were talking about at the end of the video. It's called 静夜思 (Jing ye si).

Luna is the *Roman* goddess of the moon.
I can hear KSP music in this. Did you credit that? Or does KSP use royalty free music?
KSP uses royalty-free music.
man his music is absolutely everywhere. He makes everything. Soon he'll replace china.
Yes. They both use Dreamyflashback by Kevin McCloud.
Can you explain why you said lo instead of io?
That makes sense, but you’d think once we discovered other moons and started naming them, we’d think to name our own too.
"Lo"? XD No, it's Io.
For the same reason the Earth is known as "the Earth" or just "Earth"? And the Sun ... (Well, you get it.)
Yr bit about looking up and seeing the same moon was beautiful, dude.

I'm not judging but i am expressing my love for moon.
But were you aware that Moon Rabbit Legends are present in both Aztec and Japanese folklore? #TeamBunni
The off-topic part was so sweet 😊
Great job explaining the name, but, isn't the moon moving away from the earth, so it won't, "always" be there, correct?
Thank you for pronouncing Uranus as you did! That means so much to me; and most certainly to others aswell.
On the other hand, yet, by the same token, the "I" in "Io" is pronounced as our "E".
Yet (I must ask), are you saying that you think that The Moon is Artificial, rather than Natural?
Is that the theme to "Galactic Civilizations" game playing in the background?
Interesting video, but at the start, the Jupiter moon is Io (capital i), not Lo.
0:04 As a space nerd, I laughed when he called Io(by I I mean uppercase i)Lo😆😆😆
Bro as much i love your channel sometimes i cant believe when you dont know something... in astronomy the “moons” of all planets are called satellites and moon is a nickname for ours and every other satellites have their own nicknames.
Cheeky KSP music ;)
can you do a video about places in korea? like pyoengyang or daegu?
Lo isn't a moon, it is "Io".
I may not have a friend that'll last forever, yet, I have "The Moon".
"You might be a Moon, but I am The Moon"
I've always had a poetic relationship with the Moon as well. It's like an old friend, looking at us and casting the Sun's light to us when we need it.
here in greenland anyone can do anything something happens your own problem every man for himself get on with it
You called Jupiters moon LO, it's IO
I'll just call our moon Wesley. This channel is very underrated , btw.
Shut up, Wesley

the Acid Bunny music adds a certain atmosphere to the video
the jupiter moon is called io but it's hard to see when written with an upper casse i
Nice use of Kerbal Space Program soundtrack in the background.
You said moon so many times, it doesn't seem like a word anymore lol
You earned a subscriber with that rick and morty portal.

YES!!! The obvious guess was right!
The moon IS our planet's name (proper noun). "Moon" as a common noun only became used when we discovered others that behaved like ours.
"but that's a rabbit hole..."

Isnt it called Luna?
There is so much Moon in this video that it is Mooning incredible. MOON, KOON, KUN, HIZOBALL-KUUUN
that last bit was so sweet

Why are a lot of hurricanes and floods in the United States
what is mooning?

This video had a very sad ending because of the music.
columbo called his dog eh, dog yeah just dog...
Selene is a pretty sexy name, I wonder why we don't call our moon that instead!
Because we can call it Theia after the ancient celestial body that is proposed to have given rise to the moon upon colliding with Earth. Theia was the mother of Selene hence the name.
I didn't know that.
We call it Selene in Greece either way.
Because Selene is a werewolf-hunting vampire; and werewolves worship the moon.
Shouldn't the moon technically be considered a twin planet with the way it was formed?
