In Voltorbs and Grimers defense they where actually based on common early RPG monsters. Grimer is a slime. While Voltorb is a mimic, basically a monster that disguise itself as a treasure chest
"They're just running out of ideas..." Meanwhile Gen 1 literally just "Turtle... Rat... Oh yeah that one's a seal!" And of course, my personal favorite: B A L L.
I don't get why people say that the vanillite line is "boring," like DUDE, its a living creature made of ice that evolved to look like an ice cream cone years before humans invented them, by sheer coincidence! How is that boring???
I’m much more excited by object Pokemon with fun but simple concepts like Litwick and Klefki and Lunatone/Solrock than Pokemon like Lilipup or Persian that are kind of just regular animals with slight stylisation or one minor magical feature.
To think they are human side evolutions that turns to object makes me eerie. Lore-wise pokemons are brach evolutions of human in their world, in gen 1 even the kadabra was explained it was human that turns into pokemon.
Honestly, it's nice seeing more peoole be kinder to Vanilluxe and Garbodor in the modern era. The 2010's were a dark time for those fellas.

Voltorb is actually based on a MIMIC from Dnd.
Basicly a monster that disguised as a treassure chest.
So while basic it have a interesting background.
People forget that pokemon are not supposed to be animals, they’re monsters, monsters can look like literally anything.
great short vid offering some good perspective and opinions!
I find object pokemon to be quite interesting. The way a pokemon came to be what it is, the history/lore is fascinating.

The only "object" pokemon i persibally dislike is the klang line.
Otherwise i like most "Object" pokemon. Garbador especially
