As a United fan for 12 years now, my earliest memory of us facing Leeds was when we got knocked out in a fa cup tie at Old Trafford. Back then I never really understood the fierce rivalry, but this video has completely changed that. Top video mate!

I'm a 20 year old Man United fan, I've never seen this rivalry at full capacity, but my dad and grandad hate Leeds with a passion, probably even more than Liverpool.

Hate is a great thing in football rivalries. I’m 57 years old. Chelsea v Leeds is also a massive old rivalry. Was always a lot of fan aggro and hooli action in the 70s & 80s. Fkn brilliant. What Britain is all about. What it’s built on. A good punch up. That’s why we’re one of the greatest countries on the planet. Anyone who thinks different can fk off.

I would condemn anyone that mocks the death of a fan or players, regardless of the club. I'm a United fan; a proud red for twenty-five years, but I never want to be associated with the kind of fans that hold up banners ridiculing someones death, and I imagine it's the same for yourself, when you hear your own fans singing songs about death and tragedy.
I take it your on about the Galatasaray game in Turkey? when Leeds lads were stabbed. Always a daunting place to go that place was anyway. Welcome To Hell banners they used to have and turks running round with Kebab knives. Chelsea went through exact same thing but smashed the turks 5-0 over there.

Years ago when we were still in the top flight we were getting hammered at home by man utd and parts of the ground started sing the aeroplane song mocking the deaths of the busby babes. I sang it too. As soon as i'd shut my mouth i felt a deep sense of shame and regret. I never sang it again. I think i grew up at that game.... You'd be hard pressed tp hear it now. Ultimately football fans are all the same, we are human beings and all fans should recognise that.

When it becomes a personal attack, rather than a football related chant, that's a problem for me. We all get carried away sometimes, but for me, when I see grown men frothing at the mouth, whilst standing with their kids, it isn't really about the game anymore.

As an Arsenal fan, I always enjoyed watching Leeds back in the day. A tough team who were always so tactically brilliant in all areas. It’s a shame what ended up happening with them spending so many years in the lower divisions, their fans deserved much better but I’m glad they’re back where they belonged. They’ve got a good team with a class gaffer in Bielsa. Cheers to Leeds, I may not like them but I do respect how far they’ve risen

Yes, it was. Leeds completely outplayed Bayern, but couldn´t get past the ref. There was never an explanation as to why Lorimer´s goal was eventually disallowed. There´s even a photo of the scoreboard showing Leeds 1 Bayern 0...

Whilst not having any feelings for either of these clubs I thought this was an excellently produced documentary of this fixture and will remain a permanent record in English football history.Superb.

Great video - clearly a labour of love that took a lot of work. I'm a United (Manchester) fan and it's brilliant to see this rivalry covered in such detail. It's been mostly dormant for 15 years now but before the Liverpool and even City rivalries became what they now are, this was always Manchester United's fiercest rivalry. Hopefully Leeds will be back in the top league fairly soon and the fun can begin again.

Listening to commentaries those days on the BBC radio on Short Wave! The Passion. The rivalries. I hope the hooliganism doesn’t come back, though. they were the best side i ever saw under Revie always hated them because they were that good. Leeds never had a weakness in any position and always had cover when injuries hit them. If you tried to out play them they would rub your noses in it ...if you tried to be as hard as them they would murder you,,,almost.

I've been a united season ticket holder for many years and am from greater Manchester. I've always said that Leeds is our biggest rivalry. No respect between the two clubs, just pure hatred. I fucking love it

I can only assume your either not from Manchester, or are only young or, haven't been on an away trip to Ellend rd. I've watched United home and away for years including numerous trips to Anfield and nothing comes close to Leeds.
United and Liverpool have a mutual (unspoken) respect for each other. That respect isn't present with Leeds. It's sheer hatred. Your probably a southerner or from somewhere other than Manchester hence you won't understand. I'm from Manchester and my view is commonly shared .

Nice one, really enjoyed it. Being a Red Devil I first went to Leeds 96/97 season. I was 16, had a can of coke throw at me, got chased up some stairs by the scum, coach was bricked after the game and a steward tried to let me get a beating! One of my best away days. Oh, and we won.

Leeds United v Manchester United two big cities in the north of England always a fierce rivalry. The early 90s it was at its peak when we pipped them to the title in 91-92 but then gave Eric Cantona to them the year after the rest is history but have to say Man Uniteds 1994, 1999 and 2008 teams were incredible pains me to say it but they were outstanding. see you next season 🤞🤞🤞
As a Man U fan I loved this, gave a really fantastic background to a rivalry I only found out about less than a year ago. I'm glad you didn't skip over the non rivalry results to give context as to how each club faired over the years. You could've mentioned how well Leeds did in the late 90s and early 00s though, it makes it seem like they were just journeymen but they killed it back then!

Shame we didnt go on to the next step under O'Leary felt like we were getting closer until we imploded. Missing the battles with Man United so much always a hostile atmosphere but great games.

Fantastic. One of the fiercest rivalries, on the pitch and on the terraces and it can and regularly has turned very ugly and that's something Sky Sports and the like failed to recognise. Really enjoyed it and glad it put every inch of the rivalry on show, good or bad.

Leeds United played great football while I was growing up when they reached the Champions League semi-final under the guidance of David O'Leary but unfortunately lost to Valencia. Mark Viduka, Robbie Keane, Alan Smith, Harry Kewell, Lee Bowyer, Jonathan Woodgate, Rio Ferdinand, Ian Harte... such a terrific squad.
The Leeds team that last won the league, with Batty, Chapman etc under Howard Wilkinson weren't great to watch. Real long ball stuff. From the days Scotland produced the backbone of every English team. Oddly, many of the Scots played for both. Jordan, McQueen, Strachan, Graham. As a kid in the 70s I followed every Scot in England. So Leeds and Utd featured a lot in my interest. I met Martin Buchan a couple of years ago at a dinner (MU cpt and Scottish). A nicer, more accommodating man you could not meet. spoke to me and my sister for about 20 mins - and I mean spoke. Was engaging and genuinely pleased to chat about what we remembered about him. The tributes to Mr Norman Hunter were similar. A legend from another time, like Buchan, who only wished to indulge his fans when they met him. Don't make them like Hunter anymore. Was a great player, not just a clogger. RIP to him. Been a hard time for Leeds fans this last few months. Here's hoping they make it back to the EPL - From a Rangers fan who watched Gary Mac volley that corner into the net after about a minute!!!! :):)
