Can I just say how badass I feel that your references are me and Superman 😆😎 Great video! I agree 100%! It’s important to keep everything in perspective, and always maintain a balance of work, learning, and play. I struggle to set aside time to decompress so it’s something I’ve been working on. Cheers dude! Thanks for that shoutout 🙌
This is an interesting topic. Fortunately, as a "gamer" (I hate that term by the way, haha), I did not get the usual "you're a nerd because you play video games." People around me understood. Heck, they played games, themselves. I played a lot when I was a kid, but at the same time, it was also important that I get an education and not let video games take over my life, so it was a balance, I guess. I mean, I became a musician hugely in part because of video games. I was always inspired by the music. I think it is a generational thing. There are many people who do not know that video games are so popular these days and there are so many job opportunities in the field ranging from streaming to having a YT channel or even making your own game. There are so many indie developers now that it's madness. Remember when we had to WAIT until a game came out, while in the meantime, we play something similar to it until the new one comes out? Good times... Sometimes I miss those days. It was easier to choose what games to play. Now, games are practically made every day. I mean, technology is a part of life, now, but as I said before, finding that balance between tech and other things are essential, exercise, eating properly, getting enough sleep, etc. You would be surprised that some people do not think of these things. It is easy to get caught up.
I have really mixed feelings about the word "gamer" too. I find it a bit cringey, but use it sometimes for lack of a better word. I use it ironically more often than not. Great points, though. That's awesome that games inspired you to get into music.
My mom was a Christian weirdo, but strangely video games weren't usually in her sights. She had a friend whose kids I'd have to babysit sometimes, and she hated most video games. They wanted me to bring over FF7, but the mom said no because it's got magic and demons in it. We ended up playing Klonoa. Usually when the adults in my life were demonizing games it was in a more literal sense. Don't spend ANY time playing them because they are full of violence and magic and other demonic forces, that sort of thing.
Wait, she accepted Klonoa? She must've not known what was in the game because like you said, she didn't care about video games. No offense to FF fans by the way, coming from a non-fan like me.
@@PKSuperStar256 my mom mostly didn't care unless it was something"obviously satanic" like Diablo, the kids' mom was way more wary, but she saw cute mascot and thought nothing of it.
I always figured a “gamer” was someone who always plays and has a whole setup with the chair, LED’s, fancy monitor, and drinks Red bull. But I guess there’s different levels of it. I’d consider myself to be entry level at most. I think one reason is the way it’s portrayed in some movies, “Gamer” had that one scene of the fat guy with the waffles. There’s also an episode in TBBT where Penny gets hooked on an online game. (th-cam.com/video/1joMY28ia1w/w-d-xo.html) People see that and think…oh I don’t want my family to be like that. But at the end of the day it’s about balance, it’s ok to have a hobby to unwind, whether it’s fixing cars, playing sports, or playing video games as long as it doesn’t consume all your time and thoughts. Back in high school, my buddies and I spent countless hours in the computer lab during lunch playing Unreal Tournament or Megaman 8-bit Deathmatch. Those were good times :)

Excellent topic, man! Great video as always. I think about this pretty often as well. I mean, we turned out okay, it seems, right? lol

Yeah I can relate to that too.

@@DanPantzig, welp, good thing Klonoa is still an incredible game with a great lesson.

Outside of the industry, you can even use videogames as inspiration for music.
