For me, there is nothing more satisfying than to take an idea, go into the wood shop, make a pattern, then make a sand mold, melt and pour the metal, then take it in my machine shop and make a usable part. Not to mention there is something addictive about melting and pouring molten metal at 1,925 degrees for silicon Bronze.
@@maxm2909 (Always wear safety glasses), Always skim the top of the melt off with a spoon of some sort until the lead is bright and clean, (always make sure you have a dry mold), water and molten metal do not mix, as a child of about 9 or 10 years old, I would pick up tire weights from the gas stations in town, I melted them on the kitchen stove in an old coffee can, no ventilation. At one point I poured lead into a mold that had a drop of water left in it, I never did get the lead out of my clothes, also the reason for safety glasses. I wear a complete silver fire suit and stainless mesh face shield when I pour now, you only have to get burned a couple of times to understand that it hurts.
Ever thought of pouring it into a cylinder to make a rod and then cutting it up into coins, maybe get a stamp so you can press your logo into them. great vid anyhoo.
Actually he did that once. His crucible failed so he let the brass solidify in the crucible and then he broke it off. It was a perfect cylinder. He cut it and made coins like that.

I run a blacksmith forge regularly. If you go a couple sizes up on your propane tank all those freezing issues stop. I run a 100lb tank. Got it for $20 bucks at a yard sale. Good luck and love the videos.
Imagine you would make a board game where you use your homemade coins made of different metals as money. Imagine Monopoly where you have aluminium, brass, copper, aluminium-bronze and nordic gold coins (or tiny ingots) as in-game money instead of those boring pieces of paper. Sure it would be heavy as heck, but it sure would look really cool! :D Nice scrap-rescue as always!
I did this a bit when I was a kid, not to make into ingots, but just sell copper wire. Obviously it is weighed, and paid by weight, so you need to have the rubber stripped off. We just tossed it on top of an open fire and moved away so we didn't breathe in the toxic fumes. Comes out a bit blackened, but no rubber insulation, and sellable.

Hey there Mr T, my friend made the steel molds on the lathe at work And said he would try to make me some more when he gets a chance. I would do it myself but I’m a plant operator and don’t have access to the workshop which is a shame. I have since welded on handles to all 3 of my coin molds as my friend Deirdre Young pointed out I should do 👍🏻
I've stripped a bunch of wire by hand and with knife. Then someone showed me how to do it this way...wowed! Then I've seen your machine that does it. Awesome

The copper melts at 1085°C I normally heat the copper up to about 1125°C and once I pour it itll only take a few seconds and it will solidify and it’s ready to be removed from the mold Just don’t use your hands as it will still be around 800°C after a minute.

djay4487 deved I’m not a binge watcher either but I do have about five channels that I keep up with as entertainment and he happens to be one of them. I like his channel because he is a young kid that works hard, not scared to learn something new, and isn’t blaming everyone around him for what he doesn’t have. For these reasons and a few more I watch it.

Do you happen to know how long one of those propane tanks last as far as minutes or hours while using this type of setup?
normally I’ll get 3 melts out of a tank matey , it probably lasts 60-70 minutes with the big burner👍🏻

I use about $7 in gas for a copper melt, $5 brass $4 aluminium. ill just keep stacking for now as i dont really have an end game yet.

djay4487 deved I’m not a binge watcher either but I do have about five channels that I keep up with as entertainment and he happens to be one of them. I like his channel because he is a young kid that works hard, not scared to learn something new, and isn’t blaming everyone around him for what he doesn’t have.
