It calls for 10w 30. I get that but should I run Honda oil? Car oil? Synthetic? None synthetic? I can't find a straight answer anywhere. There are about a million different opinions on the subject. • @mrdaniel74k5

    Yeah he's right don't take out the rivets people unless you have the right rivet to replace it. I know of two instances I will remove the recoil and re-rivot it on. If the pull cord slider grommet is worn out and you have a replacement part to reattach or if you need to clock or slightly rotate the assembly to the next holes because the rope binds on the sheave and cuts the rope when pulling.

  • @MrLmm001
    @MrLmm001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I understand fully. HOWEVER, when the starter needs complete replacement, you have to replace the engine cover to. Then when you change the engine cover you have a different model number from the old engine that is now on your engine and you may get the wrong parts by using that different engine number.

I was shocked, never had that happen the first start of the year. Of course when I went to mow the first time a few days later, it took three solid pulls on the rope. You don't need to drill the rivets out to remove the cover from the block, but if the recoil spring is broken they must be drilled out to replace the recoil assembly. To the best of my knowledge, the recoil spring is no longer replaceable. You get a new recoil assembly with special bolts to mount it properly.

    Every lawnmower I ever had didn't have rivets there. They had studs or bolts/screws to hold that cap on the shroud. It looks like the oil dipstick came out when you pulled the whole thing as one piece. Best to mention that one should make sure to thoroughly clean the schmoo off of that area before yanking it off, so as not to drop a bunch of crap/dirt down into the crankcase!

      Sounds like you have the model with the carburetor on top of the gas tank. If so, make sure you install the o-ring and spacer on the carburetor and not on the intake tube. Doing it the other way can cause an air leak because the o-ring will not seat properly. Just a guess because I’m not quite sure what model of engine you have. Also make sure your primer bulb is not ripped, if it is it’s another source for an air leak.

    Better think twice before disassembling something...Hard to believe that people prefer drilling rivets instead of removing 3 bolts though :) : )...

    I have never drilled out those rivets. Some guys make more work for themselves than they need to. As you said, it's best to remove the entire cover anyways as then you can blow out all the garbage built up in the engine that affects cooling. My opinion.

    If you need to replace a broken pull cord it is much easier and quicker to drill the rivets and replace them with new rivets after you have rewound the spring. Please, let's see you do that that just removing the whole cover !
