This build is nasty but takes some practice, detailed text version of it is present in my discord for subs to my twitch stream. Enjoy it and get that ELO!
I know that you wouldn't be using the infantry bonus, but you can also do a 20pop scout BO (even 19, but the eco is smt like scarce). Could you give it a try? :D Thx for all the content
Hera: im gonna stop doing the MAA build order, i just feel like it doesn't work, you dont get kills and get easily countered (im paraphrasing ofcourse).. Also Hera:Hey guys heres a awesome MAA buildorder!
He did it in one of the next few games he put on TH-cam. Still I think he's right. You don't see it as much as a drush. Probably not worth it unless you have some sort of civ bonus behind it.
I remember St4rk showing this build back a few years ago in the Voobly days. This build is no joke and makes opponents think you're a smurf(at least that's been my experience).
Thanks for mentioning that the build takes 20-30 games of practice. I felt a bit stupid when I practiced the chinese dark age about that many times but it really was helpfull.
This is pretty sick. I began doing 21-pop MAA rush (with 4 MAA) as japanese, but then I tried this Build Order, and being 25 seconds faster To Feudal (and arriving earlier with your army) actually does make a notable difference. You can catch a lot of other builds off-guard with this, especially opposing MAA/Archer builds.
Always a pleasure to see you post new videos man, keep it up ! Two questions regarding this build : 1. how would you react in case of a scout rush ? 2. would other civs be able to pull off this build order ? let's say malians for example (definitely not at all asking because I play them almost exclusively)
I am not Hera but Malians can go 21 pop with ease, think 20 is probably achievable but might be hard without idle time or deer. You would probably need to do what Hera mentions here and send the gold vils to food first, then send them to gold after clicking up.
Malians would definitely need one Deer if you really want to stay at 20 pops. Standard Scout rush shouldn't be popping faster than your Man at arms, so when they got produced, they most likely gonna be sent to your M@a, in case they don't, make one spear to defend your walling villager while you preparing archers and keep attacking with your man at arms.
That's because he's ascended to a higher level with AoE. :P For us goons we stick with MAA into archers etc :). Best of luck with future tournaments Hera!
One big reason that MAA is not as successful at the ultra high level (like Hera) is that they are so good at scouting the opponent and quickwalling. Quickwalling in resources properly will make it so that there is no damage to be found, you can basically only be annoying. Ultra high skill players can easily negate your MAA and being that your economy is super tight for a while, this can make it not worth it. If you aren't playing at at super high ELO however, these type of builds are extremely strong when executed correctly. They still can work at his level, but those guys are much better at doing complex and fast quick walls to stop it.
Nice tutorial !Did u watch survivalist build orders ?He always says that u dont need 4 on wood for maa or 3 on wood for scouts adn he only puts 3 or 2 and then adds more later on .Can u tell if thats better then the usual build orders?PS:He says that in that way u get more food.
I like to use a similar BO with Vietnamese, but it's really tight and it almost requires at least one deer. But that's pretty easy to do since you know where your opponent is.
I would add, if you can't find damage with the MAA, start attacking a resource drop-off building. Japanese MAA rip though them like butter!! You'll force your opponent to have significant idle time and spend a lot of wood repairing at the very least. Best case, you destroy the building and cause havoc in their economy
Thanks for this kind of contents, really good for us noobs. Anyway, i feel like i´ve been learning lots of build orders, i know the counter units, i know i have to explore and read my opponent, but then it all fall to pieces as i try to micro and do eco at the same time. It all goes to S*** cuz my APM is really bad. Any advice/excersice to improve apm? How do i practice that? How much does mouses or keyboards really impact the apm?
Buildorders that tight only ever work vs bad players or AI, in every other case you get lamed, you get picked up a not loomed villager you get drushed,,,, falls apart very quickly
The entire point of the build is to be at your opponent's base right as you hit feudal, so the idea is to do enough damage on the offensive that it more than makes up for the earlier up time.

@@nachoantunez 20 pop scouts is pretty standard with any civ now
Challenge: never make more farms than your towers.
Hera: You can change the task a Villager is doing.
LEL (aka me): INCONCEIVABLE.
They do not even drop off collected resources until you assign them to collect a different one.

Well to be fair, Japanese have more reasons to do it than most civs
bearing in mind he plays at 2500 ELO level, it’s still good to use for us mortals

Thank you Hera sama for this wonderful tutorial

This is some really good stuff! Thank you Hera, very well deserved success both as a content creator and pro player in tournaments !

Nice! It is a tricky build for sure
do a morley version of it.. for the likes of us

Now try Mongols 18 pop men-at-arms next ;)
@Thomas I do 17 pop with Mongols all the time, even pulled off 16 once. 😅
a build order is more of a guideline, as the old saying goes, a plan never survives contact with the enemy
Thank you very much Hera, your video is excellent, Greetings from Argentina
Great vid Hera!
Good stuff man thanks for sharing this. Lots of useful tips.

Wow, Hera with hair again 11
I love how frank and nice it's the explication of Hera
Hera's hair transformation is amazing!
Finally a build order
I think SOTL would be proud of you Hera
Hera literally a week ago: "I hate MAA opening".

I suspect this was after he recorded this video? (And not with Japanese.)

it's advisable to keep the TC idle (a few seconds) to research double axe?
PS: Thanks for the BO
Good question, i think for few seconds its fine but not more than 15 generally speaking

Great video, and can anyone tell me where can i find the newest "hera build order" ?
Is there ever a case for luring your own boar with the scout so no villager walk time? Or is the HP and vision loss just not worth it?
almost never worth it, only situation where it might be useful is on an island map where you don't care about your scout
The scout is too precious for early fights vs your opponent, sacrificing the hp on it is not worth it.
@@furkansaryerli thanks :)
Any difference if you go 37 villagers and then Wheelbarrow? Would it be even better? @Hera - Age of Empires 2
I am late but why don't you research WheelBarrow?
Me who just finished a game playing 21 pop MAA into archers as Japanese: and that's why I will never become 2k + :(
what about MAA - skirms - castle age?
This is a must for high hunt maps. Takes Japanese to the top of the game.
Buildorders that tight only ever work vs bad players or AI, in every other case you get lamed, you get picked up a not loomed villager you get drushed,,,, falls apart very quickly
Hi!, how do you set the trees in that way? Thanks

Is the 50 seconds faster uptime really worth the eco loss by not going for 22?
The entire point of the build is to be at your opponent's base right as you hit feudal, so the idea is to do enough damage on the offensive that it more than makes up for the earlier up time.
The value of stopping/delaying your oponent from making a stable/barracks/range is really valuable. The value of the Timing rises with your scouting
If you get damage done, it is for sure worth it.
This specific build order reduces the eco loss, that's kinda the point of it. Plus, your aggression is so early you've given yourself an advantage.
japanese should drop a mill to take the deer. Its sooo much better than dropping those non-horse collar farms.
true that! the extra food allows you to go lumber and mill upgrades ASAP. That will make castle age transition so much smoother.

Japanese Follow Up after Castle is Arbs+Trash I guess?
Yeah ! This is build is sick as a flank in TG too !
