People that are taking the time to watch refrigeration, and heating vids, are the techs, that want to better them self, you may have scene 1000 different things in the field, but it’s the 1001, that could ruin your reputation. Keep up the great vids brother.
This is the exact reason to always use True’s method of troubleshooting the thermostat. Pull the fan blades and use a thermometer buried in the evaporator near the thermostats cap to test cut in and cut out . True has a list of the cut in and cut outs in their literature. Been thrown by the sealed system issues , and fan issues ect. To many times . After getting several years of experience you have to fight that “I know what it is instinct “ . I know better and still end up doing it to myself every once in a while.
This is the best kind of service call because it is a teachable moment for us and for the tech who misdiagnosed it. He may never have learned that if he didn’t make that mistake. Great video.
Brilliant! I also work on restaurant refrigeration and hvac 99% of the time. Watching your videos help me on things like this one. Great videos and thanks for sharing them.
I always watch your videos after work. I do mostly install but I've been getting into more service. Your videos are always helpful and remind me to always check everything
One slow mtr was not going to cause the unit to run warm, cleaning a plugged condenser would solved the problem here's why, The cust dropped stat to lowest setting right? Well the box should of started freezing product if the unit never shut off, it did not so 4 reasons, 1 most common condenser plugged, he cleaned it lowering the head and suct psi. That solved it. Other considerations would be unit short of gas, partial restricted cap tube, or a weak comp. Guaranteed if he had not cleaned it he would of had a call back.
The problem was the slow evaporator fan motor, and there was only one of them. So with a coil sensing temp control the slow evap motor would definetly cause this issue.
Another great video! I've ran into that exact situation, where I thought the temp. controller was bad, but then noticed the fan was slower than normal.
Hello I'm using my moms profile, but I'm about to get into refrigeration and you videos are the most helpful and way better explain then the trade school I went to. You are a teacher, I'm starting an entry level job at Great Lakes in Chicago for refrigeration, I'll be looking to your videos for help, thank you sir my name is Julian
Nothing like learning from a pro, who is patient and has lots of 'know - how' and experience. It's a good example for you, for when you pass it forward to the next generation.
I work with really greasy kitchens and the higher condenser coils on the top are like vacuums for gunk. I started using 1/4 foam with a metal upside down "T" with a bent 90 on top of condenser with a strong magnet to hold metal "T" which holds the foam from falling down off of the condenser coil. Way easier than spraying cleaner using towels and water hoping nothing leaks down into some fish or cake. I change out in spring time before the kitchen gets really hot during the summer. Unfortunately restaurants want to save a dime now but later on will have to spend a dollar down the road.
And good customer relations, that you didn't repair it, and have to come out again to 're-repair' it. No one wants the repair man or woman out more than they need, and they sure don't want to be double billed.
HVACR VIDEOS I’ve worked on True units for the past 6-7 years , Delfield, Randell, Traulsen, Beverage Air, Continental, Everest, Turbo Air , you name it , I’ve gotten my ass kicked but that’s the only way to get familiar with all those units . And yes you are right customer and techs need to be patient watch the unit cycle on and off few times use your eyes and your ears 👂🏼 sometimes those are your best tools 😎
You guys are awesome. Have one doing the same thing. Change the temp. control and now I know what it really is. Year and a half of low-temp. I really enjoy it. Different controls but it all works the same. HVACR VIDEOS thank you. I am SO glad I found you on here
Manuel it could also be the refrigerant charge, but you have to make that diagnoses. Always look at airflow and a possible temp control problem before tapping into the system. Thanks for watching !!
It should be illegal to sell/put out products without out a wiring diagram or schematics, I love them, makes doing trouble shooting or repair much, much easier.
I can’t emphasize the importance of checking if a piece of equipment is still under warranty or not enough. I had a service call for a reach in, arrived on site and saw that the unit LOOKED brand new. I asked the customer how long ago it was purchased and she told me less than year ago. I then contacted the supplier that sold my customer the unit and asked if it was still under warranty, which it was. I asked the supplier if there was anything I can do to help determine to cause of the issue and was told not to touch the unit unless I wanted to void the warranty. Moral of the story is always ask questions before pulling out tools….
I will discuss this on my Livestream on TH-cam this evening, 1/24/22 @ 5:PM (pacific) to come over and check it out th-cam.com/video/lbSNs2Wizok/w-d-xo.html
Its always the temp controller when the AC man comes out then it goes down again. Its like they don't know how to troubleshoot! Or it easier to R &R parts that are easiest?
The place where I work has a whole bunch of True reach-in display coolers. Often times if the cooler loses power it eventually leaks all of its refrigerant out. I don’t know why this is so but they do. That and sometimes we’ve had them totally quit. No power, no cool, nothing.
@@randomrazr I wouldn’t necessarily say they’re a crappy brand. Their coolers work quite well typically. However, the coolers where I work were quite old so they weren’t in the best of shape to begin with.
@@baelevatorsmore728 i saw a true cooler at s liquidation store. was made in 2020. im presuming a scratch and ding model hence why it ended up their. model is a T-23 refrigerator. it looked promosing, was only 2000 and kept temp. when i went to look at it a second time , i noticed a small puddle of water on the inside cabinet on the bottom. is that an inditication somerthing is wrong? i know above top is the fan and coils with a tray thats suppose to catch the water and send it down the clear tube. i saw water leaking down the clear tube so it wouldnt be clogged. should it be avoided?
Not taking anything away from your other tech, but thats why you can't teach experience. But i bet from now on he will think next time, hmmm i remember that time where the fan motor was slow and he'll check them ever time.
Interesting seeing that blue filter in there. Think it's a good idea to put those filters on bottom mounted units or would it prevent air flow just as much as dirty fins would? I ask because I was thinking of doing this a while ago. What's the black tube like thing sticking out the front of the filter? Thanks!
I don't know if you will see my comment. I'm trying to replace a fan motor myself but I don't know how to get to it. Can you tell me should I do it from the top front or inside the freezer? thanks
i saw a brand new one of these store display. i noticed water on the bottom cabinet and the sales guy wasnt sure why their is water. the clear tube in the back, u can see water dripping down it so i presume the tray that collects the water isnt clogged . could it be anything else?
And you dont think cleaning an internally plugged condenser would of had something to do with it? Once you dropped the head by cleaning it and in turn dropped the suction to normal. That gave you a much colder evap coil. The owner had t.sat at coldest setting right?and it never got cold enough, thats why he called. After you blew it out it ran normal. doesn't mean the mtr wasn't weak, But you solved it by cleaning it. A word to all you help, ambient conditions esp in kitchens. is vital to temps and always make sure you start with a clean cond as best as you can. Sometimes you cant help it,100- 110degs no ac greese filled ect.but never overlook a simple blow job to get you off on the right foot
The condenser was not the problem. The evaporator was getting too cold and shutting off early because of the coil sensing temperature controller. The evaporator fan motor was the problem

Since nobody answered you, get the fluke hvac combo. You can amp clamp up to 400amps and calibrate controls with milivolts etc. Its worth it to get a good one because I have seen others who use the cheap ones misdiagnose shit and they can also blow up in your face occasionally. I think I payed a few hundred for mine, and an extra hundred bucks for the IR gun which comes in handy.
