The Pitch Clock is Actually Great for Baseball

  • Back in spring training, we uploaded a video sharing our thoughts on the MLB's new pitch clock, and it was obvious that we were not fans of its implementation. However, seeing it in action throughout this almost month of regular season baseball, it is shaping up to be beneficial to the game as a whole.

I like the pitch clock. I think it ends up helping the players, anyway. It keeps the players mind in the game. I find it to be similar to when I go to the gym. I take maybe 15-20 seconds between sets, and I'm able to do much more, with much more energy. When I used to take a minute or two between sets, I found myself becoming tired much quicker. My head starts to get out of it, because my mind has more time to drift. For the fielders, I could imagine that they constantly have to pay attention, because there isn't time for the mind to wander off. It keeps the pitcher in a rhythm, as well. Generally, I like the new rules. I always loved the slow nature of baseball, it's like a chess game, but it does get out of hand and for this game to survive, it needs to attract new fans. The number one complaint of people that don't like baseball is that it's boring, nothing happens. These rules make things happen.

I think instead of 15, 20 seconds would be better as to not seem too fast for pitchers, and making them not seem rushed. what do you think? I think it's a good adjustment just needs to be a tad longer, even 17-18 seconds would be fine imo

I still have mixed feelings about it, but the more constant play is a good thing.
Where I think it fails and has great potential to cause real problems is if it’s used in the playoffs. Do you really want a playoff game or World Series to end on a pitch clock violation?
One incident this year that could have been dealt with differently was Cody Bellinger’s return to Dodger Stadium. He received a well deserved warm welcome, and because of the pitch clock was rewarded with a strike. The Dodgers and/or Cubs should have asked for permission to delay the game a minute or so. WTF?
