I lost a close friend recently as well. No events of national or international significance relating to her passing, but with some of the memories associated with our friendship, I have some idea of how you feel. Now whenever anyone mentions this event, it'll be as though your father is speaking to you from beyond the grave saying something to the effect of "You're doing good, kid, and I'll always be proud of you."

How do we know he was killed?
      Was it really him?
If so, he was unarmed, and had no one armed with him. So why kill him right away!!
Take him alive, he’s a treasure trove of info!
So then after killing him, the boys had ample time to retrieve his body and fly him out in helicopter!!
      Really!
Then, dump his body in deep ocean somewhere!
      What!!!
And the public are it up!!
I mean that would make a hell of a Hollywood movie…..

Baseball helped this country recover. I’m a New Yorker and a Mets fan for my entire life. I can tell you that when the Mets and Braves played that first game back in New York City after the 9/11 attacks, it started to feel like we were getting back to a little bit of normalcy. That night the Braves and the Mets were bitter rivals but also partners and teammates in the bigger picture. They knew it wasn’t about winning a baseball game. It was about distracting people from their shock and grief for a few hours to watch a baseball game. Even Chipper Jones said that he was happy when Piazza hit that home run. They didn’t want to lose the game but they wanted the Mets to win for their fans and this city. So if the players can all come together and unite against a common enemy and realize that we are all the same then so can the fans. Because when you take off those uniforms and those t shirts and hats we are all just human beings and American citizens. So that night the fans didn’t care who won. They were just united as one nation for a few minutes.

@@bradleybrown8399 Yes, I know they play well, which is why they're bad for sports. Whether it's the Stanley Cup or World Series, when those teams are in them, nobody cares, nobody watches. Especially the Rays. People want to see the Yankees or Red Sox in the World Series, not Tampa Bay. The Stanley Cup could be GREAT this year, if the Rangers get there against either Edmonton or Dallas (I prefer Edmonton). The Florida Panthers are the only one of the four teams left that can F things up, so I fully expect that to happen. It seems like hockey always has a boring Finals, with these former expansion teams, that nobody cares about.

We had been hit by a massive tornado outbreak just 4 days prior to this. We were still without power on May 1 and would not get it back for a few days yet. My home and neighborhood were damaged but our neighbors and community were really coming together. I had a generator which allowed me to run select groupings of appliances at a time. Running the TV and satellite made us favorites of the kids in the neighborhood so the parents followed. The kids would pile into our den and watch TV and the adults would circle the chairs in our driveway, share some drinks and laughs in spite of what we had endured a few days earlier. We knew people that lost everything, people that lost loved ones, my daughter was 8 at the time and lost a classmate. April 27 was a shitty day. We needed something. On the night of may 1, a neighbor excused herself from the driveway party and went to her house to use her restroom. A few minutes later she came bolting from her front door and was yelling "We got him! We got that son a bitch!" We all immediately knew what that meant. That set off a night long party in my driveway and all of the kids fell asleep in my den while watching TV. It was the best we had felt in a few days.
