My most difficult fight: on Belsavis, towards the end of the planet, there was a Heroic Mission in some underground area, with one of the toughest bosses behind a force shield, so you couldn't fight him directly (you had to grab a correct key or whatever). But there was a small gap that allowed my character to 'see' the enemy through the shield, so I stated blasting! But then the boss dragged me inside his cage... There was no way I could get out, and there was no way Elara could help me either! Luckyly, I was heal commando, and I was able to survive the whole fight, which lasted several long minutes -probably one of my longest fights. And when I vanquished the boss, I still could not get out, so I teleported myself outside and did the whole thing again, properly this time.
Another very difficult fight was Vaylin at the end of KotFE... I had to ask help from guys on the fleet.

Oh I love that quest. But ahhhhh!!! That's crazy tha your survived!
Vaylin seems to be one of the top fights people run in to trouble. There's so much going on there.

One class boss I had trouble with was on Tatooine as a Sith Warrior when you had to fight without your companion for the first time since Korriban. I think the part about key binding your defensive abilities will be very beneficial to getting better. Thanks for the tips Swtorista!

    In regard to companion level:
If you aren't going vault to 50 using a compendium, then it's buy/grind via convos/gifts/missions. If can afford it, max your companion gift/convo legacy perks, get your comp to 40 right away with gifts, this nets you 2 advantages.
    A) Your comp will be almost at top performance, making their effectiveness much more noticeable.
    B) Economically it makes all convos/gifts/missions more valuable by default. Since gifts become less effective at higher rank 40+ it's most expensive to use them 40+. So gift up to 40 immediately then use convos/craft missions to get to 50. If your legacy perks are maxed (and not level 75 using influence amplifiers) a single "approve" in a convo has an economic value of ~6500 vs the cost of 10000 for a rank 5 purple gift.
This makes the long term economic cost balanced with the upfront cost of gifting to rank 40.

I'm a Vet with tons of experience, but I have to admit - I completely forget about Heroic Moment as soon as I unlock it. Usually I don't even need it and often remove it from my quickbars, but there has been times when I completely flop a fight because I'm way too cocky in a game that I've spent way too many hours in. Same goes for Unity and Sacrifice. Those two are prolly the first Legacy abilities I've ever unlocked and I've never bothered with them.
But yeah, in general I don't have any problkems with solo fights. I'm not a "clicker", I know where my Interrupt is, I use my stuns and in general I've been thru any fight numerous times already. Titles like "The One and Only" and "Deathless Champion" should support my claim, but even that doesn't prevent my brain from totally going "DERP! :P" from time to time :D

    • @Swtorista
      @Swtorista  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Haha!!! I was having trouble the other day and a friend reminded me to use Heroic moment... I'm the same way, I had dumped it off my bars! It's one of the reasons I made this list, wanted to hunt down any "obvious" tips us veterans are missing... Unity was one I never even think of using.

After my Sith Inquisitor story finished three weeks ago, I began using Heroic Moment every five minutes....Not because I need it, but because I LOVE FORCE LIGHTNING!! It's the most cinematic of attacks available in the game, imho.
That goes Doubly So on my Sentinal pub side where throwing around such obvious Sith power feels extra naughty & exhilarating!!

I don't know if this term exists in SWTOR, but there is a concept in other MMOs called a "Buff Window" or a more specific term window related to the class and spec it relates to. My Destruction Warlock has her "Infernal Window", I need a resource called soul shards to cast my big nuke spell Chaos Orb, and normally those are generated by my filler spells, but when I cast the spell Summon Infernal it summons a big demon that attacks my enemies, but also passively gives me soul shards. So when I have some other buff that would increase my chaos Bolts I will pop summon infernal and chain chaos Bolts for maximum output. Learn what your buff spells do, what they interact with, and sandbag resources to maximize those high output windows.

Anyway I got into the game this year and have been playing a lot with him as Jedi Knights. We both like a challenge and feel like story mode is too easy so we run veteran flashpoints together, these are level 70 missions meant for 4 people though so as just the two of us it can be pretty difficult. Imperial Heroics on Balmorra & NarShadaa felt like they were designed for the Inquisitor-Assassin class player. I started to solo the Balmorra & NarShadaa Heroics very early during my playthrough as a way to speed up my character's leveling starting the moment I arrived on Balmorra @ level 22-27.
I was able to average around 10-min per level-up all the way through level 70 by running those planets's heroics daily. I was pleasantly surprised to find my low-level Assassin was competing very well time-wise on Balmorra with my [75/306, SetBonus+Tactical, _Marauder,]_ completing all Balmorra's heroics in a 30-min period that practically matches times taken with my 75/306 Sith Warrior running those exact same missions.
I would start each day's play-session with Heroics, then make a run of 3-to-5 *HammerStation/Athis* flashpoints which combined would level my character by about 10-12 ranks in roughly one 2hr time-period, at which point I would proceed to focus my attention on the _INQUISITOR_ class story until the next day's playthrough when I would repeat the ritual. I highly recommend this to anyone playing the Inquisitor-Assassin. I was a level 59 Assassin by the time I completed Chapter 01 _(after maybe 3 or 4 days. I can check dates if anyone REALLY wants to know)_
----[Note]: On NarShaddaa playing SOLO, will often skip two noticeably inefficient missions: 1) *_Building-a-Better-Beast_* and 2) *_Recruitment Drive_*

A little thing to keep in the back of your mind. While SWTOR’s auto scaling is actually really good. One of the better mmo implementations of such. It’s not perfect. And some boss fights may scale oddly. A good example from this weeks Season 4 tasks is the Veteran mode KotFE Chapter 12 Vaylin fight in the cave. Not the big finale fight with Valkorian from KotET chapter 9. The cave fight can be brutal because while they scale you down to 70, the healing and shield tools they give you are only scaled up to 65. So they seem to barely touch your health.

Before the Knights expansions, the Baras, Thanaton from the Sith Warrior and Inquisitor end storylines were really rough fights. And Baras could one shot you if you did not interrupt his Voice of the Emperor ability.
The Prototype Isotope-5 Droid from the Imperial side of Makeb was a pain to do solo likewise before they locked your level to the level of the planet.
Now these fights are a complete joke, especially with how powerful your companions are (who is the hero of these stories here?).

I'm not an experienced StOR player on my first play through, I'm a solo gamer generally and made the silly mistake of starting a flashpoint and then got stuck at the boss, who spawns minions and with every companion I tried there's just no way I can take his minions down before the boss wipes me out or take the boss down before his minions wiped me out, which I tried because he respawns them even if you do take them down and he's still standing for too much longer. Every companion goes down too quickly to be much more help than soaking up his minion damage for a short time before everything jumps on the PC. After an entire afternoon of respawning revival and futilely trying every possible tactic, power/skill and companion and new thought I could come up with, so I felt there was just no way a solo player can get past this boss and gave up, played some other characters for a bit and then didn't play anymore. I might come back at it and have another try at getting past that boss but I hope I can get back into the immersion I had with that character, I've pretty much forgotten everything now so I don't even like my chances of hitting the ground running trying to take up that character again and take that boss down to progress onto getting off that rock and back into the class story. I think I was at lvl 35 or something. Just to get back that immersion I've half a mind to just burn the character and start a new Jedi Guardian (can't even remember what the class is called in StOR, whatever that equivalent is for the classic warrior knight). But the problem with that is I actually spent money on cartel coins tailoring his equipment. I don't know, I'll work something out with it I guess.
I did start a Sith warrior PC in the meantime and got into that one a bit before leaving the game for a few months. So I do have a question about that, can you play a light-sider in a dark side campaign? What I mean by that is I started a true Sith race Sith warrior in a dark side campaign and was surprised how immersive it was, spookily it was like my life when all these evil people started wanting me to do horrible things just to justify their choice to do horrible things and I just want to be a good guy, not like with followers following me around like shining good guys but I mean just make my choices when choices are to be made and typically why do hurtful things when you can do helpful things and feel good about yourself. So by the time I've got my Sith ship, which is about where he's at, that character is basically a light sider trying to secretly help little old ladies cross the street whilst giving a thumbs up to evil Sith overlords and telling them sure, I'm out there evilling evilly mate, don't you worry about it.
So how is that kind of play through likely to go, does the game accommodate something like that or am I just going to lose points and XP and get terrible disadvantages for not playing the evil sith campaign the way an evil sithy is supposed to? I mean I got right into the Jedi warrior PC and that guy's stuck in a bottomless pit of unbeatable boss so that was disappointing. It's like I've been hurt before, is this character attempt really worth it, or is the game just going to slap me down for being so unconventional?
I'll keep subscription active either way, even if I never play again. It's too good a game overall not to support in this small way. But I want to know for gaming sake. That sith guy's level is I can't remember, whatever you are just after you get your ship. Waste of time and start another Jedi PC to do the light-sider thing? Or keep at this guy, who's actually really immersive now I think about it again, I was so frustrated by the Jedi unkillable boss thing. The sith trying to be good in an evil world, it's just so much like life. I don't mean that in a religious sense, I mean like say if you were a cat and you decided to participate in a cat civilisation of civilised cats, the regular cats would seem pretty evil but they're just being cats, I'm the one being different by trying to be a civilised cat. That's people in real life man, so it's a really immersive character, relaxing actually. Come to think of it the Jedi was making me feel anxious anyway, like the world he was in was too utopic and kind of depressing with it's "us and them" attitude about good guys versus bad guys and a rather convenient set of rules and subordination to being good, I've always found it's more like a you're on your own thing when you try to be good and good decisions in fact require introspection, forethought and absolute responsibility as opposed to mindlessly taking instruction like a child which is how a bad guy would make good guys bad if they were bad guys not good guys, so the Jedi light-sider thing was feeling a bit creepy anyway.
Does the sith light-sider in a dark side sith warrior class story work or is it a game breaker? You've done like 400,000 play throughs. Have you done that one? Does it work?

Yes he is one of the ones I came across online when making this! He comes up as one people have trouble defeating. So I don't know much about him specifically, but more tips when you can't interrupt fast enough:
      1) *most* stuns act as an interrupt, use those too if you aren't already, even the ones that break on damage
      2) Some other abilities act as a baby interrupt (it will restart a few second later, but buys you precious seconds) - example the trooper vanguard leap does this. force leap might too.
      3) Some utilities give you a fast interrupt
      4) some utilities make those baby interrupts be available more frequently
and good luck out dpsing him!
PS he might also technically be a world boss. from online: "Check his buffs: He has the "Terrorizing" buff that perma-stuns all companions that engage him (states "Only true heroes...") All World Bosses have this buff. His nametag states that he is a "Champion," but most if not all World Bosses state that they are a "Champion.""
It also seems the interrupt might have been different when he was first released compared to now. hmmm.

      @Swtorista  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

OH THAT ONE IS HARD! I think I showed it briefly in this video. I'm guesisng you already know the mechanics, just incase, these are from dulfy.net
Besides these though I haven't seen any really good tips specific for that fight, beyond what's in my general video here!
      Defeat Arcann
The fight with Arcann has some mechanics you need to be aware. At certain point in the fight, Arcann becomes immune to damage and you will see green arrows directing you to a shield you can pick up. This shield will give you certain skills you can use in a separate hotbar.
Use the shield (shield icon skill) whenever you see him summoning Force Manifestations that target you with yellow arrow, these attacks from them will charge up your shield so you can use Empowered Bash (arm icon skill) on Arcann that deals massive damage.
Neat the end of the fight Arcann will jump away and attack you with Empowered Lightning, just put your shield up and walk towards Arcann and bash his head in. You will get over 100 stacks of that shield buff this way and can immediately end the fight

My best tip is this: Stop using a healer companion. This sounds unintuitive, but the damage they deal will eliminate enemies faster, and the faster they are eliminated, the less damage you take. The other benefit is that using a damage dealer or even a tank in case you are a ranged class, or a class that likes to flank, will force you to use your rotations optimally, and learn your defensive cooldowns. Frankly, with a healer companion, you can almost afk and you will be fine. If you use your defensives, and optimal rotations, you will clear content a lot faster, and a lot safer, and you wont look silly when using a sniper against something that is standing right in front of you, using a stick.
also, keybind companion bar 1, especially if you are using a tank companion, this is their basic attack and should be your opener for every fight, unless you are a tank, in which case you should definitely be using a damage dealer. Finally: learn to rocket boost/recover/ cancel, as this will respawn your companion at full health between fights.
Even if you have to heal a bit between fights, its still faster than killing things eventually, with a weak damage dealing companion in a heal spec. And toys are fun to use.
    This is the way.

Swtorista could you possibly look into the Gemini captain again since 7.0 came out? I am a new player but like to think I’m decent at the game. I am on story mode, 5 levels above the captain (75) with 250 gear rating but she still kills me within 1-2 mins of the fight starting. I haven’t even got her down half health. There’s a whole rubreddit on this too & honestly there is DEFINITELY something wrong with her difficulty since the update. Very frustrating as I just want to advance in the story but literally CAN’T as of now. I think this needs more attention as it is completely halting a lot of new players’ ability to just play through the story… on STORY mode.

Swtorista I also have looked up videos, raised Senya’s influence to 21, have her set as healer (I’m DPS), try to interrupt the captain’s best abilities, etc. I promise, I have tried everything & am doing exactly what others have done in videos from years ago but she absolutely shreds both Senya & I insanely fast. Honestly thinking about putting the game down for a while because of this which is a complete shame.

For KotFE and beyond, are veteran mode “main quest” missions supposed to be solo-able or are they for a group? There were certain gimmicky boss fights that seemed impossible to solo in Veteran mode. Vaylin in the cave is a good example, since you can’t use your companion. On the other hand, story mode seemed entirely too easy. This was part of what frustrated me about SWTOR after the KotFE expansion the difficulty curve seemed to spike a little too much. But then my main character was a jugg tank.

The story, veteran and master mode were specifically designed to be done solo. Some of the fights are hella harder than others. I've done KOTET 1-9 when they first came out on veteran in the previous expansions's gear and one of them was so hard I had to give up on it. I haven't tried them recently or on master mode yet. You'd really need to use all of this stuff in this video, gear the hell up, and really learn how to play you class.

you cant actually create a character that is directly called a mandalorian. You do get mandalorian companions (smuggler companion Akaavi, and Torian, bounty hunter companion, Shae Vizla). The Bounty Hunter character is called a mandalorian in the storyline, and you can buy with cartel coins or on the gtn some mandalorian armor, to get close enough to roleplay one. It isnt too hard, the bounty hunter story line ends with you being the leader of all mandalorians.

    Dear swtorista,
I've noticed during many, many videos that the AoE attacks have a cool 3D design. My AoE just look like the rep logo lying flat on the ground. I searched in-game for a 3D effect option, but I couldn't find it. Could you point it out to me, please?
    Thank you

Tip for bossfights: KILL. THE. ADDS. Take them out, so they're no longer damaging you. Less damage to you=less chance for you to die.

Quick tip for anyone who has lots of Jawa scrap. You can buy maintenance gifts from the Jawa vendors just for scrap, means you can upgrade your ship droid to lvl 50 for almost free. Other then the cartel comps, your ship droid can also craft for you. Just make sure to unlock the right legacy perk to upgrade your gifts. :)
They also sell gifts for animal comps.

Hardest for me so far on solo was the last boss on eternal championship. I almost broke my keyboard panicking to press defensive buffs, increase speed, stun remover and interrupt among other attacks. 9 out of 10 bosses defeated and I think I got no rewards there. (Or did I miss it?)
