I need a way to add an external sound sound output (coming from a computer) to a an ATEM mini stream. This would allow bypassing the ATEM's converters when streaming concerts. I've tried feeding sound via HDMI without the images, but the sound is distorted when using Reaper, and with Dsp-Quatro, noise appears from time to time.

This video is a MUST watch for anyone doing a live stream - precise and straightforward - an excellent tutorial that will result in a significant addition to your live arsenal. Excellent work, Alex - thank you.
A few questions; 1. Does this work on all ATEM minis? 2. Would it be possible to use a joystick (xbox controller) to emulate PTZ using those settings via a plugin? 3. What would be best for switching between shots(macros)? Stream Deck? iPad app? 4. Could you "Preview" a shot before switching to it?
1. It should work on all ATEM Mini Models. 2. I'm not sure. 3. A Stream Deck with "Companion" works great for activating macros. Reall buttons and very customizable. 4. Yes, but only on the Pro and ISO models. Create your DVE in the upstream keyer (your Digital Zoom). Then, in the software push the "Key 1" button in the "Next Transition" box. You will now see the second angle in the preview panel of the multi-view. 4.5. To test the transition to the new angle, click the "Preview Transition" button in the "Transition" box. Now try out various transitions (e.g. Cut, Mix, Dip, Wipe, but not the DVE transition. We're already using the USKey to digitally zoom in, so it is not available to use). When you are happy with one, turn off "Preview Transition". Now when you do the transition, it will show in the live stream. Hope this helps.
Got a chance to use this yesterday... Worked great... If Black Magic would make that DVE assignable to a "virtual" camera, that would be perfect. It would do 2 missing features 1. You would have a preview before switching and 2. you would be able to transition like the other cameras vs a hard cut... but still very useful!

This is awesome, it is the one thing that has been putting me off getting the Atem, well that and the fact it is not in stock anywhere for love nor money. Important questions though; is it possible to control the Macros with an ip[ad remote such as the Strata app?
Alex, I am trying to incorporate your idea of Zooming (using Set A, Set B, varying rates) with Aaron Parecki's idea of camera switching & pause to create a very dynamic macro that goes from one camera to another, zooms in, stays there, zooms out a bit, stays there, zooms out fully, transitions to different camera angle... etc. Buuut I must be doing it wrong. Is it possible to hire you for an hour or so via Zoom so you can guide me through? Thanks again for all that you do!

(24 useful combinations out of 36 total) (The example above is very crude and just meant as inspiration. In reality, with a bit of creative and logical thinking, one could really expand on this (like 1: moving the "execute function" to a button of its own so as to not have to follow a specific order in selecting zoom/speed/placement and 2: adding a MacroXX= static scale 200% (or sometihng to that effect), thus adding a handful of scaled pans between rightcenter at different speeds. Sorry about the wall of text, I am sure that this could have been put in way simpler form (english is not my first language), but I got so excited that I had to just share my thoughts. If my thinking is more or less without flaw, I will add further observations and use-cases when I have had a chance to experiment with the actual device.
Simply brilliant, thanks a lot! You explain really good! Does anyone know if it’s possible to map the macros to let’s say an Elgato Streamdeck? Thanks a lot in advance!
This is great. Thank you. I do have a question. You mentioned using the virtual zoom and possibly shifting it to one side to make room for a PIP. What I am unsure of is that this virtual zoom and the PIP both use the upstream key's DVE controls. If that is the case, how can you actually do this zoom and PIP at the same time. We have been using our ATEM minim pro ISO for several months now, and it is great. But we started using PIP. We would like to have the main camera on a speaker and periodically shift them to one side while displaying a slide in a PIP pane. Any tips on using PIP and virtual zoom together would be greatly appreciated.
Love it - thanks! But I'm wondering if it is possible to realise close ups like this while keying in front of a greenscreen? The background, provided by another input (HDMI) or the Atem Media Library would also need to scale, right? Should be possible with macros, too - right? Is this a scenario you already tested? Thanks for a tip here :)
Hi, I must say this is a life saver for me, thank you. I'm now faced with another issue. I have 3 cameras on my blackmagic atem mini, I scaled camera 2, each time I cut to another camera angle, camera source 2 will lose the scaling made Is there a way of making camera source 2 saved to avoid changes when cutting back to another angle? I will be glad if you can help. Thanks.
Hello Alex, all of your tutorials are just wonderful. I am kind of newbie in ATEM Mini Pro. A question...Is there way to use ATEM Mini Pro stream, recorded video(MP4 file) besides using OBS? Thanks.
Hi Alex, informative as usual. I’ve got the ATEM Mini Pro ISO coming tomorrow. Can’t wait to try this. One question. If I’m using the USB C to connect an SSD to record the footage from each camera, will I still be able to access the software and macros as you’ve described, on my MacBook Pro?
Yes it you will :) Take a look at my view about how to connect your ATEM via a network... this will show you how to access the software control via ethernet instead of USB-C :)
Incredible tips mate! This company is really on to something special. I just bought one of these. Do you think that it’s possible to setup a single macro that would switch to all 4 cameras as well as virtual zooms or would you need multiple macros?
This is almost what I'm looking for. Anyway to zoom in a video input so that I can switch normally and the source is always cropped in? I just want a camera input to always been zoomed in some, but without having to use the PiP to "switch" it.
Awesome tip - thanks, Alex! I just have one question: I understand that the ATEM Mini also can control optical zoom when using a power zoom lens with the BMPCC 4K. Can you then make macros that allow you to duplicate what you showed in the video (switching between wide angle and close up with the press of a button, as well as a constant zoom/in out effect), but with optical zoom instead? Thanks in advance! Kind regards, Martin
Did you ever recieve an answer to this question? I'm looking for the same solution. I have a blackmagic camera and can zoom, but can't seem to figure out how to record a macro for it
@@dodothev Hi, Andy! Sorry for the late reply, but unfortunately I have not found an answer to this yet. I don’t have a power zoom lens myself, so I have not been able to test it. Perhaps asking Blackmagic support is the way to go. Good luck! :)
Hi Alex! Why my RATE in keyframe goes up only to 8:10 ??? I see yours going 10, im 1080p 29.97 streaming high, and tested to change outputs (in case that related to buffer memory) with no success only 8:10 max long rate
Is there ANY way to zoom in and also keep a PIP? We are trying desperately to crop out camera info on the main camera and still have a PIP and CANNOT make it work. Please if you have any advice!
At the moment, the camera buttons can only be used to cut to that specific HDMI input, they are not able to be assigned to macros. But something like an Elgato Streamdeck can be! :)
Hey, thanks for the tips, kind of a silly questions, the whites on my output look blown out, if I connect the source directly to a monitor, it looks good, but through the switcher blown out. I can't find the controls for camera brightness/gain in the software, or more specifically I see some things called gain, but adjusting them doesn't seem to have any affect on the picture...
Hi Alex; Love your videos. Question, I have a ATEM mini, and the software downloaded. Now the software has a zoom function that can actually zoom certain cameras I have been told? Do you know if it would work with the VIXIA HF R800 ?
Question..... i have a shot that I have to zoom on a door. Then as a person walks down an aisle zoom out and following them panning cam as we go. I manually do this now since changing views live will make the viewer seasick. Lol. Is there a way to set this up as just a button to press and the cam/software does the rest until I load my next cam view. This would make the transition nice and clean
Alex, I seem to be having a peculiar issue . I connect 2 cameras to HDMI 1 and 2 on the Atem mini Pro. The HDMI 2 works fine for about 30 seconds then goes black. Don’t have an issue with HDMI 1. Tried swapping cables, doesn’t help. the HDMI 2 source works flawlessly with another computer or iPad. What am I doing wrong ?
Hi alex.. Good tips I'm using a surface book 3 laptop with a resolution of 3240 x 2160 and another laptop with 1920 x 1080. Can atem downscale the 3240 x2160 to 1920 x 1080?
Is this the only solution to have multiple scenes from 1 camera? Do the macros create a cut in the project if we use the pro ISO? There are no options to set - CAM 1 - Wide view - CAM 2 - Zoom view etc. ?
Hi Alex. I have a BM 6k and would like to create virtual zooms. When connected to the Atem pro iso I am still only getting 1080p, is there a way of using the 6k from the camera to split up the shot and not lose resolution?
Thanks Alex this is really useful. By the way, is it possible to use a different graphic on the USK and DSK ? They both seem to take the same graphic from the media player. I have used a camera input with a graphic from H2R dragged on to a second screen but it seems odd to have the USK and DSK tied to the same graphic otherwise.
@@AlexPettitt Thanks Alex - I suppose there would have to be a second media player to call up different graphics for USK and DSK - but I can use the USK with a green screen graphic (eg generated in H2R) into a 'Camera' input. Thanks for your really helpful videos and responses.
Does Keyframe animation recorded in macro as well? I just could record a macro that punch in and out .. but I'm haveing trouble to record the "animation"keyframe zoom..
Novation LAUNCH CONTROL with ATEM Could you show how to set up the Novation Launch Control to give physical audio faders to the ATEM Software control ? May be an excuse to get Novation to send you one if you do not have one ! Launch Control will work with the SoundDevices MixPre mixer recorders by just plugging in the USB - no set up config needed. It would be great if it would recognise the ATEM in the same way - but it does not seem to do that. It should be possible to configure it though since it uses standard Midi protocol. Any thoughts - or has anyone else here done that ?
I tried to set up a zoom out using a macro with the same workflow you used for creating the punch in zooms but it won't work. Is it a different set of steps once you hit the record micro button for achieving the zoom out shot at the beginning of your video?
Thanks for the video. Blew my mind. I tried to change the size value to greater than 1 but the software arrow is grayed out and if I type into the field it resets back to 1. I'm using an ATEM Television Studio HD. Any idea what I'm screwing up?
Try updating your ATEM Software Control to the latest version and also update your ATEM to the latest firmware. If this doesn't work it's possible that your version of ATEM doesn't support going above 1. Hope this helps
Alex - have you experimented or know a workaround that would let someone use their USB-C monitor as the multiview monitor versus an Atomos or TV? Is it as simple as using an adaptor? I'm curious if you've seen such a configuration? To be specific, I have a LG 21.5" HD 4K Ultra Fine LED Monitor Black for Mac Only. The ports on the back are for USB-C (female), so I'm curious if an HDMI OUT (HDMI to USB-C) is possible with this monitor so I can free up my Atomos for my camera as an external recorder for the main angle.
Hey unfortunately not, HDMI to USB-C converters do not work. The USB-C is also only capable of outputting the program output, so you wouldn't get multiview on it anyway currently. Hopefully that is something BM will change in the future. Good question though!
nice ... but you are losing resolution by software zooming ... when you are doing postproduction you will take 4k from camera and you can go to 1080 without losing quality but what about live stream?
if I am understanding this correct, you zoom digital in a FullHD pic, so you loose quality, right? its not really zooming in a 4k signal if your cam is 4k because the signal transferred to Atem is still only HD
Let me know below if you'd like more tips and tricks videos like this one for the ATEM Mini :)

- resulting in 24 (I think) different (useful) zoom variations using combinations of 10 macros. (24 useful combinations out of 36 total)
(The example above is very crude and just meant as inspiration.
Great video! How would you crop the video as I do have some pieces on the left and right side of my video which I wanna hide. So a zoom in would help
Just Awesome ... like it, ... can the smooth zoom be also apply to Macros ?
My Question too
This is great.
Thanks!
This is amazing!!
Alex-Magic! Thx!!
Good info, what lens and setting do you use for you BMPCC 4K for live streaming?
Great Stuff!!!
I have 3 cameras on my blackmagic atem mini, I scaled camera 2, each time I cut to another camera angle, camera source 2 will lose the scaling made
Is there a way of making camera source 2 saved to avoid changes when cutting back to another angle?
I will be glad if you can help.
Thanks.
Fantastic. Thanks a lot :)
Alex Pettitt Great, thanks. Will do.
This is amazing. Do you think the a6100 with the 16-50 zoom could be extended to go to a 100mm or more close up? Thanks
Incredible tips mate! This company is really on to something special. I just bought one of these. Do you think that it’s possible to setup a single macro that would switch to all 4 cameras as well as virtual zooms or would you need multiple macros?
Hey Matt, you could certainly create a complex Macro that rotates through all the cameras and virtual cams automatically :)
This is almost what I'm looking for. Anyway to zoom in a video input so that I can switch normally and the source is always cropped in? I just want a camera input to always been zoomed in some, but without having to use the PiP to "switch" it.
Great idea! Thanks.
You're welcome! Thanks for the feedback :)
great video :)
Kind regards,
Martin
Love the content, will this work with Switcher Studio?
Perfect
Is there ANY way to zoom in and also keep a PIP? We are trying desperately to crop out camera info on the main camera and still have a PIP and CANNOT make it work. Please if you have any advice!
You are gold, if I just got 1 camera in input 1... Can I create anothers 3 macros and just pressing cam 2 or cam 3, can I switch the ángulos (zooms)?
At the moment, the camera buttons can only be used to cut to that specific HDMI input, they are not able to be assigned to macros. But something like an Elgato Streamdeck can be! :)
Thank you!
if the upstream key is already being used how would you overlay the presentation onto the live video?
And this should work with sony a6100 cameras yes? Still figuring out the software but just making sure its zooming after the camera on computer?
What am I doing wrong ?
exactly what i wanted to know if atem mini pro can do that.
Glad to hear that the video was useful for you :)
Alex, can you suggest a power zoom telephoto lens with f2.8 that works with BM 4K camera for using remote zoom in and out function of ATEM software.
Hi alex.. Good tips
I'm using a surface book 3 laptop with a resolution of 3240 x 2160 and another laptop with 1920 x 1080. Can atem downscale the 3240 x2160 to 1920 x 1080?
Hi, Alex. Do I need power zoom lens such as 18-105? Thanks for help,
Hi, how do you zoom out the background camera and keep the PIP at top?
Is this the only solution to have multiple scenes from 1 camera?
Do the macros create a cut in the project if we use the pro ISO?
There are no options to set
- CAM 1 - Wide view
- CAM 2 - Zoom view
etc. ?
Hi Alex. I have a BM 6k and would like to create virtual zooms. When connected to the Atem pro iso I am still only getting 1080p, is there a way of using the 6k from the camera to split up the shot and not lose resolution?
I’m having trouble filling the screen with my canon 6d. Is there any work around for that ? I’m running the extreme iso.
Hey Delcan, the DSK and USK are not tied, you can select their sources in the USK and DSK pallet in the software control :) Hope this helps!
@@AlexPettitt Thanks Alex - I suppose there would have to be a second media player to call up different graphics for USK and DSK - but I can use the USK with a green screen graphic (eg generated in H2R) into a 'Camera' input. Thanks for your really helpful videos and responses.
Is it possible to make cuts using this feature aswell? So that in post I have the full resolution.
Hi Alex, does the Atem Mini work with Cisco's Webex?
I mean what version should my ATEM have to be able to do this?
Does Keyframe animation recorded in macro as well? I just could record a macro that punch in and out .. but I'm haveing trouble to record the "animation"keyframe zoom..
Novation LAUNCH CONTROL with ATEM
Could you show how to set up the Novation Launch Control to give physical audio faders to the ATEM Software control ? May be an excuse to get Novation to send you one if you do not have one ! Launch Control will work with the SoundDevices MixPre mixer recorders by just plugging in the USB - no set up config needed. It would be great if it would recognise the ATEM in the same way - but it does not seem to do that. It should be possible to configure it though since it uses standard Midi protocol.
Any thoughts - or has anyone else here done that ?
Interested in OBS live streaming using ATEM mini pro ISO
Do you have I link where I could check out what else is in the last update?
I tried to set up a zoom out using a macro with the same workflow you used for creating the punch in zooms but it won't work. Is it a different set of steps once you hit the record micro button for achieving the zoom out shot at the beginning of your video?
I have the same problem. Thanks,
Thanks for the video.
Does this work on the television studio hd?
if I am understanding this correct, you zoom digital in a FullHD pic, so you loose quality, right? its not really zooming in a 4k signal if your cam is 4k because the signal transferred to Atem is still only HD
Does it work on ATEM mini? Not pro
will this work with the atem tv studio pro?
