video time 12:44 you will see a couch and a white box behind the couch. That white box is a steam heater. Only the most expensive foreign owned houses had steam heating. First and second houses we lived in used kerosene heaters, the 3rd house in Asahi-Dai had a steam heating.
It's a good way to practice and learn Japanese. Thank you for this. I left Japan when I was 9 years old and now speak mainly English. I have forgotten how to speak Japanese, so this is fun!
Everywhere you showed in this video I have been to many, many times. Gigean Bochi (Foreign Cemetery) we lived across the street. Either side of the cemetery is a walk way to Motomachi. Part of the cemetery also has a Japanese style archery range at the bottom is a swimming pool. The grocery store in the center of Motomachi was there in 1965 when I was there, the only local place you could get foreign food. Yokohama International School (YIS) has now moved to a new location, 5th and 6th grade there. I have spent many hours at the park by the diplomats house. Beautiful. YCAC, YYC
