Yes...finally Carolus Rex!!! You should def check out the whole album from start to finish, since it's a concept album dealing with the rise and fall of the Swedish empire. I def have voted for Sabaton 😅
To put a long story short: Since Karl the 12th was so young when he was crowned, Sweden's enemies Russia, Poland and Denmark formed a sort of alliance against against the Swedish empire, believing it would be a peace of cake to beat the young king. But instead they got their asses kicked numerous times by Karl and his army, until he made the mistake of marching into Russia trying to force the Russians under Tsar Peter the great to a decisive battle. In the battle of Poltava 1709 in nowadays Ukraine, pretty much everything went wrong and the now exhausted and decimated Swedes suffered a major defeat. He finally met his end in 1718 at the fortress of Fredrikssten in Norway, wich marked the end of the Swedish empire.
Yeah, Karl the 12th is known as Sweden's war king above others. Gustavus Adolphus was a great commander, but Karl the 12th was unmatched in his warlike ambition. He was great at waging war and thus defended Sweden brilliantly in the Great Nordic War and showed the power of our empire, but his problem was that he didn't know when to quit. He tossed offers of peace in the garbage because he fully believed that he was "the man" to expand the Swedish empire in the same way Alexander the Great had expanded his Macedonian kingdom, that his might would make right and prove to be undeniable. But going into Russia was the same mistake that both Napoleon and Hitler would make after him. In the process, he lost us the province of Finland, which was fully a third of the empire and had been a part of Sweden for longer (700 years) than Skåne (Scania) has been swedish today (300 years). This is something which very few swedes of today think about; that the loss of Finland was actually more significant than anyone alive today can even begin to imagine. In many ways, Karl the 12th and his tendency to overreach himself was the main reason for the fall of the Swedish empire.
I agree that he didn't know when to quit and pretty much caused the fall of the swedish empire, but i don't understand what the loss of Finland has to do with him. It remained swedish until 1809.@@Egobyte83
@@draug7966 Good lord, I am so sorry, I got my kings mixed up. Gustav IV Adolf lost us Finland because of his handling of the russian occupation. I beg your pardon, sometimes my passion makes me draw parallels where there are none. ^^ I maintain, though, that Karl the 12th started the end for the empire because of his blundering about in his incessant warmongering. Keep making enemies and you'll eventually just get everybody pissed with you.
@@Egobyte83 No worries, that can happen easily lol. But yeah, he kinda strikes me as the type of leader who's great at winning battles but not so good with long-term strategy. I wonder how things would have went if Karl the 12th was a general under a more moderate king.
Well also some credit to the Tsar as Sweden was supposed to get assisted by the usurper in Ukraine with 55000 men -> Hetman Ivan Mazepa but they joined or were killed by the tsar instead and that Baturin fell due to deserter from Mazepa, else it would have been a resupplied swedish army.@@Egobyte83
I've low key been a fan of the Swedish monarchy since I started reading the "1632" novels more than 20 years ago. (About a small town in West Virginia that is transported through time and space to Germany more than 300 years ago.) The series examines how the townsfolk step up and prove their 21st Century ideals. It also looks at how many impacts aspects of their culture and technology have on their new neighbours. Anyway, I also love Sabaton, so I will go and vote now!
Thank you very much for Sabaton! Since I'm a fan of Sabaton, it's always nice to see a review of my favorite songs. Carolus Rex is one of the best albums. This is a joint tour between Sabaton and Apocalyptica. And for me this is by far the best tour. Thanks for the review.
You should totally do both the english and Swedish versions of the songs of this album. Sometimes the lyrixz are different - as in there are differences other than language
not just differences in language, but also sometimes intentional i think. If i remember correctly, En Livstig En Krig/A lifetime of war is different. The swedish version is about a soldier who fought in the war, whereas the english is from the point of view of a "spectator"
I love this version. The pride and passion in Joakim's voice, goosebumps. Sometimes listening to a band sing in their mother tongue is so beautiful. I listen to Raskasta Joulua every Xmas (Heavy Christmas) i prefer it to English Xmas carols.
Third time was a charm, Dan 😂 Cracking tune and lyrics. The way the drummer stood like marching to war, and the army type fatigues the group wear is brilliant ❤
Hannes banging the hell out of his skins behind his tank. Still hoping you check out "Lady of the Dark" animated story, it is a great story, hits you in the feels. Floor has a t-shirt that says My Man has a Tank.
It's even awesome in English! To see a great live version in English, see either Hellfest 2017 or Wacken 2019. Hannes gets to really bash the drums on this track!
Great reaction 👍 Sabaton is my favorite band because they teach us so many great storys that are too good to be forgotten. And their music is great too of course. You asked for a full live concert. I recommend the concert in Wacken 2019 it was their 20th anniversary and they played both stages 😁 th-cam.com/video/7aXT5e18vBQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vi3ta_aTz2rFaSC6
The madman Karl XII was only 15 when he got the power over Sweden and the Swedish army. Sweden was a super power then. With the most badass army in Europe. And he really thought he was next to god and no one, absolutely no one, could command him. Something he had learned from his mom. Karl was a devote Christian. So, when his father died, several people saw possibilities, him being so young. But Karl would have none of that. Now he was the ruler by god. And anyone that objected might lose their heads. Now, Karl was not a cruel ruler. On the contrary, he added lots of improvements to the people of Sweden. But, his main interests were power and war. He actually fought in the wars himself, in the front.
I'm good with Swedish. No need to translate as they force it in school in Finland as we were part of sweden back in times and we have whole 5% of population who speaks svenska. Which means: all fucking street names are in swedish too and town names. Bit stupid if you ask me but it is what it is. At least i do understand Sabaton swedish songs....and they teach actually 4th language here. You can pick from french, spanish, italian or deutsch. I went with german so i get Rammstein too. Kinda normal in many european countries except south. Like italians are like amerikans, let's just speak our own! except english is from england.
The Swedish versions are always better though. But I’m saying that as a Swede. There is so much more power and emotion in the Swedish language that can’t be translated into English.
Great reaction again, I saw Sabaton in may this year, just a week after I hurried my wife. I was there with my children and it was so healing! We all needed that!
So I have to ask all of you other You Tubers to something I don't understand. Every channel I have watched this morning has had 221 Likes. How can every reviewers channel have the exact same number whether it is new or days old? I know You Tube has been doing some stuff.
English version lyrics:
All embrace me
It’s my time to rule at last
Fifteen years have I been waiting
To sit upon my throne
No allegiance
I will swear no oath
Crowned by god not by the church
As my power is divine
They thought I was too young to rule the land
Just as they failed to understand
Born to rule
My time has come
I was chosen by heaven
Say my name when you pray
To the skies
See Carolus rise
With the lord my protector
Make them bow to my will
To the skies
See Carolus rise
To the skies
See Carolus rise
Proved in battle
Led my men to victory
No man alive or dead commands me
I answer to the Lord
Hear my orders
Question me and die
What I say was said in heaven
And so it shall be done
I know I was destined to rule alone
All for myself I have claimed the throne
Born to rule
My time is now
I was chosen by heaven
Say my name when you pray
To the skies
See Carolus rise
With the lord my protector
Make them bow to my will
To the skies
See Carolus rise
To the skies
See Carolus rise
[Spoken words by Joakim Brodén:]
Framåt Karoliner
Fiendens dom är här
Låt oss krossa dom
Kasta in dom genom helvetets portar
All that’s thine shall be mine, there’s no stopping me
All over Europe my rule shall be questioned by none
All I see give to me, that is my decree
My will be done
They thought I was too young to rule the land
Just as they failed to understand
Born to rule
My time is now
They made this whole album in one Swedish version and one English version.
The best is all songs both versions are great.
Yes, I own both versions. Because it is about a period of Swedish history, it seems right to have the songs performed in that language.
Yes...finally Carolus Rex!!!

I def have voted for Sabaton 😅

The drummer is married to ( Floor ) lead singer to Night Wish. Love Sabaton and watching Tommy Johansson play guitar. So glad you found him on Utube.

I love this version.
The pride and passion in Joakim's voice, goosebumps.

The concerts are amazing! A must see!
❤love them in swedish
Carolus Rex, King of the Swedes at the tender age of 15 years old. What pressure he had at that time.
Carolus Rex, coolest name for a king ever
Third time was a charm, Dan 😂
Cracking tune and lyrics.
The way the drummer stood like marching to war, and the army type fatigues the group wear is brilliant ❤

The most epic Sabaton concert for me is Woodstock Live, Poland, 2012! :-) with the introduction to the band.
The last european king to lead his army in battle , first in the Line
First of all: I love Tommy’s trademark headbang 😂
Second: I find you one of the better reaction videos ❤
“Say my name when you Pray” !!! Carolus Rex! 🤘
They announced a few days back they are going back to the US next year as supporting act to Judas Priest
You really need to listen to "The lion from the north" (The great tour) which is the best version.
The Best live Band OF Universum
You have to se them live, they are going to US in april 2024 on tour
this king was about believing that he was chosen by God itself to the throne....so he was crazy but... the history tells...so......🤘🍺
That was the standard at the time. All Kings claimed their right as Ruler through God.
Pure Power 😂
Sabaton coming in May 24 to MGM National Harbor. Check them out with Judas Priest. I saw them live in Silver Spring, MD at the Fillmore. Insane!
On their website they have synopsis' of their songs. So if you wanna know more about Karl (Charles) XII, check it out.
I love the original recorded version, but Apocalyptica makes it souch better. ❤🤘
So much*. Ugh stupid keyboard. 😅
You should really check out Sabaton History channel where they break down the history of their songs.
We have done 2 of them so far.
❤❤❤❤
You should check out Civil War, they gives me a huge sabaton vibe
It's even awesome in English! To see a great live version in English, see either Hellfest 2017 or Wacken 2019. Hannes gets to really bash the drums on this track!
