I've never done any plumbing work in my life and this video made the process so easy I honestly can't believe people pay to have stuff like this done for them!! The removal of the old, disgusting, rusty, unit was far harder than the installation. Thank you so much!!!. GIRL POWER!

You don’t sound Ukrainian… but you have a Ukrainian flag as your thumbnail and next to your channel name. That’s weird, bro. Really weird.
I installed this garbage disposal today. I had installed a different unit before, but my elderly mother put a spoon down that, less than a year old disposal, and killed it. I bought the red one this time from Costco, because of the price, HP rating, etc. Last time, I had reused the original sink drain outlet, but this new disposal didn't fit it. So, because of your video, I was able to remove and install all of those sink drain pieces correctly - down to even buying some plumber putty. I also had to remove the pipes under the sink because things wouldn't line up. That was just sort of a pain, removing, hacksawing, etc. But your excellent video is top notch. So pleased it came up first on my search. Very professionally done. Extremely helpful. I appreciate the time you took to make and share this. Chris

Installed it. It was "easy" aside from modifying the pvc pipes a little bit. I had to maneuver them around a bit because this disposal is narrower than the old one. It's working like a gem now! Thank you for making the video to help out the rest of us! ** this 1.25 hp disposal runs slower than my old 1/2 hp, is that normal?
@LS-gh9hl that’s awesome. 👏 good job. Did you hard wire it or plug in?
It's a plug in. It's much more horse power than the old insinkerator so maybe it just doesn't need to spin as fast? It's doing the job but sounds deeper. Reminds me of a truck in 4wL climbing a hill!
Hahaha that sounds about right lol. It’s not the quietest but it has served us well for the time we have had it. I wish you luck with yours. And I hope my video will come handy for you again on your future projects.

Great overview, but please... don't use those J-bend flex adapters (shown at 2:46). They become clogged very easily. Always try to use smooth pipe adapters and adjust your install to make it all fit properly, even if that means some extra parts are needed.
When I moved into my house, the "plumber" used those flex pipes in the kitchen and both baths and when I pulled them out, they were a mess. Full of crud that accumulated in the folds. No wonder my sink stunk so bad.
Yes you are 💯 correct. We actually swapped it out few day later as you suggested because it was not sturdy enough, but I could see how it would get clogged and stink really bad. Great tip thank you.

@franvamotv your awesome. Much appreciated.
Great quick video, I do a leak test always by plugging with the drain plug and filling it 1/2 way or 1/4 and then pulling the plug and turning it on to check sometimes you can have a tiny leak that doesn't really show until you start draining full sinks of water and not just the flow of the faucet.
Great suggestion. Thank you.
That is the exact unit I am installing... thanks! I got mine at Costco... I hope it goes as smoothly as your installation.

The point is, all I’m doing is replacing my broken disposal with a new one. I could easily use the same hardware correct?

I noticed that you did not show anything on the wiring portion. Is this garbage disposer pre-wired or do you need to cut any wires and add a metal strain relief connector. I purchased the same red 1.25 hp American Standard and planned on replacing an old Insinkerator with the same 3 screw mount. Good video by the way.
That’s because mine came with wire and an outlet plug 🔌 on the end and I already have an outlet under the counter. I believe there are instructions with the unit on how to hardwire it if that’s the setup you have.

I have a garbage disposal & i was just curious underneath the cabinets i dont see a wall outlet or cord and thata to be expectes cauae its a older house & the pervouus owners probally wired it difffrently but whats the diffrence berween hardwired & plug version of a garbage disposal
It’s got to have power from somewhere it is most likely tucked away well. There is 0 difference one maybe cheeper then the other in some stores. but you’re better off going with what’s there if you don’t want to spend extra money installing an outlet.

How long does the plumber's putty need to dry for?
I am no plumber but I believe it is waterproof and does not need to dry or anything you can use the disposal with in few minutes as long as nothing is leaking your all set

I have same exact disposal and had someone install it for me a week ago. That section between lower ring and mountain ring leaks. I rotated it further but it moves really easy to the end and it does not feel sealed. Again after one day of use it leaks. Is there a gasket in between those to rings that he missed installing? It leaks from the area that is explained in video at 2:03
I’m sorry to hear that you’re having this issue. If you email me some pictures of the leak I maybe able to help. Send them to DIYwithMax@gmail.com.
@@DIYwithMAX
Usually those types of leaks are caused by Loose mounting bolts: The mounting bolts may need to be tightened. To do this, unplug the disposal, remove any obstructions, and use a screwdriver to tighten the bolts until they're snug.
Also it’s could be Improper assembly: The mounting assembly may not be properly assembled. Double check your work.
Another reason it could be Excessive plumber's putty: there may be too much plumber's putty under the sink flange keeping it from seating all they.

My old disposal is hardwired. I got a new disposal today and I unhooked the hardwired wires from the old one but there's absolutely no ground wire so I have no idea what to do cuz I'm scared to hook it all up if I need a ground wire. Unless it's grounded in a different spot or something and idk about it
That’s unfortunate. I’m not an electrician so I can’t give you advice on how to wire yours up. But you do have an option to switch to a model with hardwired connection. Most of the time they have the same model with either connection or the cord may be removable. Plus it’s on worth taking a risk of wiring this incorrectly and potentially causing future damage to your home. Check with a local electrician. Im sure if you call a few places someone will be brave enough to give the advice you're looking for. Thats what i would Im your situation.
Good job 👏👏👏
Thank you please like 👍 the video.
Mine is not draining, and the pipes are not clogged. I think it has airlock. Will it help if I open the dishwasher hole and connect the dishwasher there? Right now the dishwasher hose is connected on the second p trap pipes.
Sorry I’m not sure how to help with this one. Never come across anything like that before. But please post here when you figure it out to help other folks with this potential issue.
Is like a two sink set up. On one side a p trap with the dishwasher connection. On the other side the garbage disposal with another p trap. Then they both connect to a Y on the main drain pipe. But I think the disposal is getting airlocked some how. Thanks
If it moves slight when never I run it is it normal ? I’ve never look under sink when I use it
It should not move. If it gets loose it can make a real mess. You may need to tighten the mounting screw or add some silicone spacer rings if you have a really thin sink.
Great 👍 👌.
Thank you. Please hit the like 👍 button on the video so it gets recommended to more folks like you looking for this info.
Respectfull, several things you mentioned regarding pipe connection is NOT 2'' its 1-1/2'' schedule 40 pvc also the disposal you shared had 1-1/4 hp (commercial grade) 95% home owners only need 1/3hp - 3/4hp max. In addition the title say " install any garbage disposal in 5 min" which is false because what if the disposal has a fixed mount twist collar (found on Whrilway based disopsals) they are much more difficult to install that traditional twist mount collars. Anyway the demo was solid and helpful just slightly misleading.
I appreciate you taking the time to share these corrections. If I come across the other base I will post an install video on that one.
I installed the same garbage disposal and I get water from underneath it. Not from the bottom but the top. Could it be that I did not used the black elbow that came with it?
I tried to do a video but I was not able to. It moves from the top and the water comes down, I did not use the PT . Thank you
It sounds like it’s not draining for some reason. I’m not a plumber but You can email me some pictures at diywithmax@gmail.com and I’ll see if I can help in any way.
Did you use the plumber putty for the sink to flange connection? If you don’t have a dishwasher then you should keep the drain plug in. If you removed it then it will leak there. Also these should be a rubber washer with that black elbow so if you used a different one it may not seat properly.
A garbage disposal that's leaking from the mounting hardware can be caused by a number of issues, including:
Loose mounting bolts: The mounting bolts may need to be tightened. To do this, unplug the disposal, remove any obstructions, and use a wrench to tighten the bolts until they're snug.
Double check your assembly: The mounting assembly may not be properly assembled.
Excessive plumber's putty: There may be too much plumber's putty under the sink flange. Something’s to consider.
Terrific!
Thank you your the best.
I noticed that the weighted hose of the extendable wand type faucet was positioned so that it could not extend all the way because the hose was routed incorrectly around a water stop.
Good video though.

Acordian style plumbing is not code in the US. You won't get insurance coverage if insurer knows.
That’s great information. Thank you very much. We actually went back after the video and replaced the accordion style pipe because of how flimsy we found it to be and were concerned that it would fail over time.
It definitely looked pretty flimsy LOL.
The reasoning behind it failing code (as far as I've heard) is that it collects food and junk and starts to smell and can clog the drain line if it's not cleaned out. Solid PVC is just better. Only time I'd use the accordion style is if it was a truly temporary fix and nothing else was available.
Glad you were able to get it out of there before it caused an issue.
Yeah luckily we realized that very soon after install lol.
Awesome

When attaching the disposal to the flange it takes two people. One to hold the disposal to the flange and the other to turn the flange. Using a screw driver for additional support is not reasonable. I have a 2 compartment sink and this only shows 1 compartment sink which makes it look easy.

That thing looks light af. Mine weighs 150elbeez!
This one was not bad. But I know what you mean.
If you are connecting a dishwasher, a step was skipped. There is a plastic tab that blocks the outlet to the dishwasher. It needs to be punched out. You can feel it with your finger if you insert your finger inside. If you don't punch it out, your dishwasher will not drain and will back up.
Thank you for adding this advice. I do cover it in my dishwasher install video but you are correct it would have made sense to add it in this video as well. I appreciate you.
Not all. You didn't explain what to do in the case you dont have a plugged version.
You are correct I may have to make a separate video. I’m happy to connect and answer any questions you may have. But if you’re not comfortable doing electrical on your own please contact an electrician for help.
The wiring only makes complicated.
Hey thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. You can always convert the wire from the wall in to an outlet box and make your life easier.
It will take 3 days just to install the power switch. Good luck for a 5 minute job.
It’s a play on words 😂 learn to install in 5 min. How long it takes you to do the job will all depend on your personal skill level and experience. Me personally it took 20 min
Replacing one and installing a new one are not the same

I’m glad you brought that up. I ended up switching it out because of that exact reason in my place. I will definitely mention that point in my future plumbing videos. Appreciate you taking the time to point that out.
Good job
Thank you very much. Are you installing one of these?
Thank you!
