Absolutely amazing self help video. If all self help videos were like this, we would be very happy campers.
Thank you sir.. 😎
Many Thanks to you for such a detailed tutorial for a first timer like me! I discovered our disposal was leaking-What a mess! Being a single mom I didn't have the means to pay someone. I started watching videos, many to be exact but NONE were as helpful or informative as yours! My son's ages 15&12 assisted and we did it! No leaks. Perfect! So grateful I found your video!🙂
I’m in the same boat as you are Laura and I agree, great tutorial with step by step instructions! Thanks so much!
Glad to be of help!
I just did this today with my 13 year old son helping. I’ve never done any plumbing work before, but this just saved me about $350 (the cheapest quote I received for replacing my disposal, not including the price of the unit). $100, 30 minutes of work and we’re done. Thank you!
That's so great to hear. Great job Mark!
a pro tip, if you happen to be shopping for cabinets. the style that has a vertical between the cabinet doors is a complete PITA to do anything with. get the kind like Bill has, where the doors just meet in the middle. that way you don't have to fight with an obstruction between the doors. also, every plumber I've seen install a disposal has always filled the sink basin and pulled the drain plug as part of their leak check. just running water down the drain only checks the bottom of the pipe, and when you dump a sinkload of water, it completely fills the pipe.
Yes, the dividers between cabinet doors are a complete PITA when doing something like changing out a disposal. Agreed about filling the sink tub. Also, run the dishwasher, and look for leaks or problems. Thanks Ken!
Thank you! This video is exactly what I needed, and I felt like my grandfather was here teaching me.
Glad it was helpful!
I'm a new homeowner who had to do this today. Sir, thank you so much for helping me with this. I hope you know you're very much appreciated.
Thanks so much!
Thank you, Sparky Channel! Seeing the steps in your video is so much more helpful than just reading the printed instructions. I just installed my new disposal on my lunch break (and a little longer, don't tell my boss!). I am really thankful for your video. -Kate
Have been replacing so many food waste disposals for clients and never knew they are available with power cord attached. Need to look for those as it would surely save me some time. Yes, yes, I always check polarity when replacing the power cord... With regard to the mounting assembly, I always replace it to give clients the full value of a new disposal, but that's just me. Anyway, I always love it when my favorite electrician expert turns to plumbing! I am glad you are branching out! 🙂
The weird thing is that Home Depot charges $14 for an Insinkerator brand cord while Insinkerator only charges $10 extra for a corded disposal! And the cord is so nicely sealed. Good job on checking for polarity. Many people feel that since the hot and neutral wires are both black, it doesn't matter. But it matters a lot, so great job. I actually worked as a professional plumber for a while. Electrical is a much better trade IMO though.
Keep up the great work Mark!
Now I know why I waited close to 2 years to tackle this in my house! THANK YOU,
Reusing parts that are still good? COOL, and saves time !
And that use of a car jack =exactly, why not ?!?
Good to know the 2017 Tacoma truck jack that comes with the truck is good for home projects !
Only hiccup I had was my old Badger 5 unit , had a Jerry-rigged plug in connector to the wall-I was worried I was missing something from your video -
But I was assured by a phone a friend , that the plug I had “matched up” with what you had , so all is good !
See: How to Wire a Garbage Disposal (Including Polarity Check for the Wires): th-cam.com/video/qJ59vCe6a04/w-d-xo.html
Sounds great! You can do it!
Thanks for video. Just replaced mine and yes, fast. Did not realize I could use the old parts…not leaking so went for it. So far so good. Appreciate it.
Good job, thanks!
YOU ABSOLUTE GENIUS, using a car jack. Thank you for that, and the close up of it going back on the mounting bracket. It’s too heavy for me to finagle while holding it, and I hadn’t thought abóut this problem, when I took it apart!! Brilliant!!
Thanks so much! If someone has a bad wrist, elbow etc., it can mean the difference of being able to do the job or not.
I have not even tried yet but I know I can do it after seeing this amazing instructional video. Thanks sir. Now off to buy a new one. Mine is leaking at the bottom
Thank you for the video! Just did this today, and everything worked with no leaks first try. Car jack trick helped a ton.
Great job!
Thank you! One of the best DIY videos ever! I took me 30 minutes to install.
Thanks so much!
Thanks my friend for that instructional install, and its ALLWAYS helpful !👍🙏
Sounds great!
Thanks Sparky you helped!
we just changed our garbage disposal using your video. THANK YOU!!!!!
Great job! You're very welcome!
thank you sparky
Helped replace easily! Had to replace switch too, but this made the disposal real simple.
Great to hear!
Good Video. It definitely helped me.relmove and reinstall my disposal. It had become very jammed due to a tiny screw. The unjam tool couldn't unjam it. Had to remove then get lots of leverage and a little help with a hammer prodding the unjam tool. Works like a champ now.
The use of a bottle jack is a great idea. It can really help in preventing you from bending the lock ring and creating a leak.
That works for me! :)
Followed your instructions today and all Worked out well. You ‘re the definition of a L E G E N D !
Great job! Thanks so much!
Great video, thank you! Exactly what I needed. Yes, make sure you get the model that has the cord with it to save some time 🎉
You're welcome! Good tip.
Thx. Awesome video. Just installed mine. No issues. No leaking. So far anyway. Thx
Excellent!
You might want to add putting a weight or something on the sink flange up top to keep it from shuffling while installing/ removing (and you're keeping the old drain flange). It it moves, you risk breaking the waterproof seal.
Good tip, thanks!
Fantastic video. My mom's disposal just started leaking and I used this to fix it. Highly disappointed that Home Depot doesn't carry the corded versions in store and only carries them online. But great video!
Sounds good, thanks!
Using the car jack was 200IQ!!! Thanks for the tip!!
Like I said, "why not?"
Great Upload Buddy. I appreciate your time and lesson in installing this unit.
Thanks!
Great job sir I’m doing mines this weekend thanks for the tip
Good luck!
Saved my girl 45$ qnd made me look cooler thanks for the help.
Great job!
I am going to replace my one. Thanks for the video. Appreciated it.
No problem 👍
Awesome!! Thank you for your help!!
My pleasure, thanks!
Thank you for the demonstration sir
Welcome!
Thank you sir.
great explanation sparky...keep up the good work! :)
Thanks, will do!
Tx! the quick-connect, is it universal among all the disposal companies? Will the old quick-connect work with a different manufacturer"s new disposal?
Thanks Mr Sparky!
You're very welcome!
Mine is still stuck. Are there any suggestions? Please
Great job Sparky.
Thanks Gary! I hope you're having a great summer!
Great video sir!!!
Thanks so much!
The Badger line is designed to fail. Buy the higher-end stainless steel models if you want it to last.
I agree. The 1/3 hp and the 1/2 hp are a waste of money. I got the 3/4 hp with a 4 year warrantee. I'll be keeping that paperwork because I don't trust it. True, the stainless one's are quiet too.
Very helpful - thanks
Great to hear, thanks!
In Chicago its against code to drain a dishwasher thru a food grinder.Has Chicago just not changed its code or can you think of a reason for this rule.
Thank you
You're welcome!
Great informative video.
Thanks!
Where did the plug for the dishwasher go
Awesome
Thanks!
Omg the CAR JACK!! I’ve been struggling to get the clips aligned on this heavy mf for about an hour. Genius hack, thank you sir!!!
No need to struggle. Thanks so much!
Many thanks, Now I know how to replace it.
Excellent!
Superb sir.
Thanks!
You just made me change my mind
About?
Thank you! As a single woman your video helped empower me
Excellent!
Hey sparky, how you been? I thought , well he's been so quiet did he fix all the homes in his area ? Ha ha nice video. I used a little trolly Jack for a 3/4 horse grinder once because those things weigh a ton .
Hi Gaurdducks! Trolley jacks are super useful. Yes, I spent a long time on a really big (and expensive) house renovation. It turned out great though. Great to hear from you!
@@SparkyChannel I know the feeling, a long time on a house. Been on those where you ask Your self how much lip stick can you put on a pig ? Get the wrecking ball already .
Where is the link for the cabinet mat. I would like that. Also I’m gonna try and replace my disposal. I’m no where a handyman

Gone through several videos... I've replaced the disposal. Are there any suggestions to what I can do with the old one. Do I just throw it away?
I found this on Google: "Since garbage disposals are mostly metal, it is better to think salvage rather than the landfill. This process recycles a variety of items including copper, aluminum, steel and more. Find out where to take your old disposer check with Earth911 and check under “metals” for your local zip code."
@@SparkyChannel thank you!!! Very helpful! Something in me just wasn't satisfied with trashing it or the regular weekly recycling pickup.
I understand. The disposals are a heavy chunk of mostly metal.@@psykomystro
Cool video 😊
Thanks!
Wish I had watched this BEFORE starting. Now I’ve loosened the sink mount and can’t figure out how to remove it.
Дед, долгих лет жизни тебе!
Hmm, a car jack, that just makes the most sense! This is the kind of solution that comes from cross professional interaction.
That's a little Volkswagen Beetle scissors jack. I paid $4 for it at a swap meet many years ago. lol!
@@SparkyChannel
It's so brilliant and practical. I love the ingenuity.
Thanks George! It works for me because I know I'm not going to strain a muscle holding up the disposal with one hand and doing the hook-up with the other. I have a friend who holds the disposal up with his knee while he does the hook-up. He's quick on that install too. lol! To each his own, just get it hooked up. :)@@GeorgeVCohea-dw7ou
You didn’t show the electrical part. How did you disconnect the electrical part from the old badger ?
Here you go: How to Wire a Garbage Disposal (Including Polarity Check for the Wires): th-cam.com/video/qJ59vCe6a04/w-d-xo.html
My insinkerator is fine.
I wish you could show me how to install an air vent underneath my sink because it's not vented
if you mean your house plumbing has no vent for the sink, you might look up Roger Wakefield, if you haven't found him already. he may have a video on installing an autovent under an existing sink.
@@kenbrown2808 ty ken
🙏❤
Are you asking about an air gap, which goes on the sink, or a plumbing vent, which goes out through the roof?
Hi Ken!@@kenbrown2808
@@SparkyChannel good morning. Hope your summer's going well.
You sounds like Scotty Kilmer
Great job but that wrench is used at bottom of disposal you turn it to unjam the disposal
Thanks Matt. The wrench is designed to have multiple uses.
💯👍👍
Thanks Theo!
TIP: the lower mounting ring is ONLY held on by the rubber drain baffle! Nowhere in the instructions nor anywhere else is this information. I had to call support (and felt like an idiot when she told me how it’s held on).
Anyone else notice he went clockwise to take it off and counter clockwise putting it back together.Or am I seeing things Wrong
Super thank you for your info. God bless 😊

Big Clive recently made a video about his worst shock, and I think this is an important topic that frequently gets overlooked.
th-cam.com/video/Q2jGK4iuPnQ/w-d-xo.html
Would you be willing to share your own story on such a topic?
I've never been shocked badly. Some small shocks when I was young and stupid though. lol!
@@SparkyChannel heh. I got lit up by an HO fluorescent, but my worst shock was a Reloc(tm) system in a commercial building. 277 leaves a mark
@@SparkyChannel
Thanks 👍
@@kenbrown2808
The only time I have been shocked was not a working incident; although, it involved moving and rearranging. It happened by unplugging an antique piece that most definitely needed to be rewired. After a few moments, I opted to leave it where it was and not plug it back in at all. I was too embarrassed to say anything at the time but would not be, if it were to happen these days.
Safety standards have come a long way!
@@GeorgeVCohea-dw7ou that and insulation doesn't last forever.
I think it’s stupid it’s one of the pricier disposals and you had to install your own power cord to it lol
