Y'know what might be an cool mechanic that could help Yamato/ other ships with slow turrets? Turret traverse *acceleration*. Just like there's a skill that allows secondaries accuracy to "spool up", there could be a skill that allows turret traverse to speed up over time (most beneficial when you're kiting away and have to get your guns nearly all the way around).
I think just removing the turret traverse debuff would be good for this legendary upgrade. Bumping the dispersion buff up from 7% to 12% as well as giving it a 17% (5 second) reload nerf would be even better. Let it be a highly accurate sniper with a higher than average reload time rather than a “sniper” with really bad vertical dispersion. Also, for Colombo’s legendary upgrade, I don’t think it’s a change of opinion. The entire Italian bb line was made to work with Dead Eye. While I wish they just integrated those buffs to the entire line, I think at the end of the day they were thinking of how to fix the problem without admitting the mistake (like they usually try to do despite how obvious it really is)
Tbh Colombo is very good if you play it semi agressive. I have a lot of matches wich i carry with 3-5 kills and 150-250k damage. With Dispersion uograde in slot 3 and range in slot 6 it just eats enemy cruisers and most BBs. Going bow in with an Cruiser for hydro and youre almost untouchable with 5 Heals. 10-20k salvis with sap between 12 and 16 km range is a normal thing in rhis ship. And if you broadside a kremlin for 50k 18km away you will learn to love this ship.
It has 32 overmatch, giving it really good accuracy would make it too strong. I agree on the turret traverse debuff removal but the rest is would keep as it is. Yamato is still playable and that is purely due to the overmatch. There is a reason why the hyper accurate BBs only have 406mm guns.

The 32 mm of overmatch only really matters the closer you are.... because ships without 32 mm overmatch still get the same (or better) AP Alpha than Yamato (Thunderer, Vincent, Lauria, Ohio/Vermont have better Alpha with small guns. So the overmatch only comes into play at closer quarters.

At short range you can aim for weak spots much better, at long range it is very difficult and more often than not you will get ricochets without that overmatch. With it however you can just point and click without having to worry about aiming for weak spots
Assuming PQ's PC using ~800watt power supply. I will say get APC 1500VA will be fine most of the time(buy less or more according to your power need). It is totaly fine to not get the latest one. The old one is currently on sale for 185USD on amazon. And APC is a really old brand, I had used it for 6+ years and it continued to worked fine. Keep in mind that inorder to keep playing games when power went off. You will need to also hook your network to the UPS(like routers, switchs and AP/WIFI).
I heard mixed things about APC now especially when they were acquired by Schneider Electric. Old APC were pretty good though. Eaton and Vertiv are good ups brands as well. Also Cyberpower is a good brand for a budget ups.
Lol, Arpegio events back in the days were big, grindy, but FREE! You just had to play the game. And through that, you'd have a harour full of these flashy ships. Also PQ, Yamato had that citadel because back in the good old days, you didn't have all these CVs, firestarters, etc, and she was a hard nut to crack plus she was scary to fight against. Now all her strengths (range, shells, armor, HP, are powercrept and her weaknesses (Citadel, sweetspot) even more glaring. She used to be Queen Elizabeth, now she is just Burger Queen.
Legendary Yamato is just fine lol had a clan battle with it a few times where just dumpstered cruisers caught out but my best and favorite one was the first 2 salvos of the match going out to 22-23km on a spotted Stalingrad and the first one smashing through his nose for 32k, never adjusted course and second shot was bang on to remove him from that match within the first 3 min. a lot of the time the best thing to do is to putter at 1/2 throttle to the middle of spawn and just park broadside and just start smashing anything in view on the flanks, some of the best matches i've had. only time really have to move is if a DD decides to charge through mid or they start focusing you with HE salvos but for the most part from the middle of spawn you can hit anywhere on the map with your spotter.
Unfortunately the problem with Yamato is that she’s old in the game. She comes from a time of balance; exposed citadel, planning required with slow turrets, but powerful main battery guns
I know it's late, but I prefer Cyberpower - have 3 different sizes around my home, as much for the high quality surge protection on our acreage is subject to those pesky power blips that can damage electronics - Run for PC/hometheater etc. Batteries are easily replaceable and inexpensive, most models use lead acid batteries, so older tech, but no lithium fire risk etc. They just work. :)
UPS wise, the problem is that cheap UPS are more of a fire hazard than protection. They tend to use aluminum windings in their transformers, and that shit will short so easy because it's so hard to solder/connect up to the standard copper based wiring. I run an APC SMT1500C for my main tower. Keeps my gaming PC and my (lightweight) VM server alive for 20, 30 minute outages. It is line interactive as well, so it switches from wall to battery pretty quick, haven't had any problems. I get power-blips in my area about every 2 to 3 weeks and haven't had a power crash since I got it running. On the expensive side though.

Thanks for that detailed explanation. I didn't know about the Al windings but easily believe it. I considered that SMT1500C when I replaced my UPS last year. It's a sweet product! In the end, I don't need true Sine Wave so I bought a much cheaper model. Since you seem a bit of a UPS geek, I'm curious what advice you give for replacement batteries. I keep my UPS's forever and actually pick up ones from friends whose batteries wore out and "it died." So I'm comfortable installing generic sealed lead acid batteries. But I don't know what to advise normal people. Do they care if the connector is F2 or some proprietary thing? P.S. yes I replace the batteries and return them to friends as "hey I fixed this," not a total jerk. 😁
@@jameshobbs1460 When used in home wiring, aluminum wiring would typically be joined using twist caps, terminal strips, or some other physical clamping force rather than solder. Forming a good solder joint between copper and aluminum is EXTREMELY difficult. Also, aluminum wiring in a home is not code and should be replaced. On the note of common sense, try using some yourself. Mr. Carlson has a great tear down of failed UPS where he discusses this exact problem. Happy trails.
No idea why they said no to the cyber power one. I have a Cyber UPS with Sinewave. Have had it five + years now.. works perfectly. And reicently bought the smallest one to power my power chairs when the power goes out with the inclament weather. My 60" Plasma, my 11 ch Onkyo TXNR 10030 Receiver, my 5 ch HK 2.1 amp, my bluray player, my record player, my pc, my router, my two def tech 8060 powered towers and my svs sub.. alo hooked up to the upc.. never a peep.. more often than not. When I have my headphones on I done even notice the power out or blip. It will go about 25 minutes all gear on.. OR2200LCDRT2U is the model.. even has front batter with hot swap capable. So who ever said Cyber is bad is just a hater. My dad has a apc that he likes is about 7 years old for his pc's. He is a cpa so needed to save the programs and work he has done. Sorry this ran on wanted to give you a look at the load capibility and assure you waht ever you get they are worth it.. plus much easier on your gear.
My dude, you need to remember this is a game. It’s supposed to be FUN even when you’re grinding stuff. If you’re not having considerably more fun playing the game than you do at your $15/hr job then you need to ask yourself why you’re playing at all.

I am a little grind goblin it once took me to regrind shimekaze line in 2 days in my opinion 200 bucks for a free ship is not worth it. If it was a unique like slava then maybe worth it.
Keep in mind that if your PC is on a UPS, and your router is not, you go pink... every point has to have backup power. APC is fine. Solid state batteries are coming...
I've always preferred the reload mod over the legendary one, as DPS is everything. Also, that turret traverse just make it too torturous to be viable, especially in a game that is so RNG-dependent on whether you score that citadel or not.
Tower, Monitor, Modem, Router, all can connect to the back of the same UPS (as long as the UPS can provide the proper wattage). 1500va typically relates to 900watts. which is plenty for most people.

Yep, I got the ARP Hiei (Kongo with a 10 commander) just by playing. I don't remember if it was on a container I got for free or a mission or how I got it. But, just playing. I'm not paying money for anything I cannot have in my hands to preserve and use even after the seller decides that the game is not a profitable business anymore.

I would have said: Dispersion - Dispersion - Reload (Till i saw the salvo on the cv). For Ups definetly go for one with more Watts than your psu. And treat it like a psu, its better to have extra room (it will translate to extra minutes on anyway). And also as devices age, they lose efficiency and draw more power, for psu, usually its the battery after some years that might need replacement. However that said I have one from Cyberlink (900W). Pc runs on 150~350W (but its no modern gpu), and it gives about 30-40mins. Think VA about duration, and Watt, a threshold to be able to stay on. The hardware seems fine and does its job, but the software is meh. I have it over 4 years and the battery feels the same Its was worth it though, especially if you can also find a way to connect also the router to it.
This video makes it clear: Definitely play Yamato with a UPS made by APC, no penalty on turret traverse, and it's less likely the battery will burn your house down like British HE. //I'm still unsure or unconvinced whether or not Yamato Leg Upgrade/UU is better as it is now.
I have such a love hate relationship with the Yamato. So much so that I dumped some extra money on credits and got the satsuma. Whenever I’m having a bad time with a battleship, I play a couple randoms with the satsuma which I find trolls me sooo much less than the Yamato. Plus it feels like the shells perform better at range
At one point they sold a booster that lets you level through the IJN BB line faster. They also included the clothes hanger camo for the Yamato as a final reward.
APC 1500 should keep the power drops from restarting your computer and allow you to power off properly in the event of a power failure for a few minutes. Depending on your system specs of course. 900 Watts of continuous power or less. I have been using APC for several years.
No. On the matter of UPS, I have a Cyberpower 1500VA holding up the main tower, monitors, router and USB storage, and a 900VA holding up the TrueNAS Core box, 2.5GbE switch and fibre NTD. I also have an extra ace in the hole, I equipped my solar system with grid disconnect and keep a 20% reserve. Still need the UPSs to keep the electronics running through the solar system switch over. The Cyberpowers work fine. At the consumer level I'd say it's less about brand and more about price point. These held up fine during a storm event that killed the power so hard that some of my power points wouldn't work from the grid disconnect temporarily (had to reset everything). UPSs kept everything running long enough to find sockets still held up on the solar battery.
I do enjoy the Yamato still but if an enemy ship shows up on the opposite side your turrets are on you can get farmed to death before the ship and her turrets get turned in time to even fire a shot back
35:21 i personally use APC ups too and would def refer it over cyberpower anytime. compared to cyberpower, APC ones are better as they are much efficient and on diff loads handle quite well plus reliable too. I'm running a 1k VA cuz my PSU is 700 watt. you can adjust how much you need as per your power consumption load.
Yeah, I don’t really see the benefit of Yama over Vermont. The only thing it really has is overmatch and a bit of speed, but the overmatch isn’t all that relevant with how much damage superstructure gives you these days.
Vermont's 40 second reload is torturous to play with. You CAN get the reload mod, but you absolutely need the dispersion one unless you want German BB levels of dispersion.
Got the ARP Yama from 3 crates that I bought, lucky me I guess. Sucks that you don't get the legendary modul with it and there is no way to obtain it. Classic WG move
UPS advice, realize that you are looking at consumer-grade products and your audience is probably split between home users who have limited data behind their advice, and IT professionals who have lots of experience with industrial grade UPS products. APC is a Big Name in server and data center power systems. Their consumer grade products are good too, but what I have seen the quality is not very different from consumer grade UPS's from CyberPower or Tripplite or Belkin. In other words, your price point has more effect on quality than brand. At that level. Lots of advice to get 1500VA size. I agree. If it helps, my gaming PC draws about 350W in WoWS and that size UPS gives me about 20 minutes run time. And yes get a separate smaller UPS for your network gear. PC shuts down, you still have wi-fi. UPS's are rated in VA, which is roughly but not truly max wattage. And it is not battery capacity. You'll find they track together but just keep in mind they are not the same. Your PC might require True Sine Wave power. This feature is more expensive than Simulated (stepped) Sine Wave. If you need it, you need it. If you don't, you don't. There is no grey. My kit is fine with Simulated Sine Wave and I am equally happy with my APC model BX1500M and CyberPower model CST135UC2 at home. Both are major brands that I have worked with in offices for years.
I got the first one and the second one. But the range mod screwed me. Never saw that one equipped. I was betting on accuracy on the third, well guess you don't actually need it.
So, in conclusion: don't waste money in this thing, if you want it just buy the bonus pack for the tech line Yamato. Or, if you completed the High School Fleet collection when it was available the reward was that (and the Movie Camo and some flags).
A 54k game, through no fault of PQ's. If you were trying to get the top BB patch, the one where you have to average like 108k per match over 100 matches, you'd be 60k below the average needed. It would negate _many_ good games. I think the escalation in the game, esp with CVs and subs, has made this achievement nearly impossible.
Why pay ludrious money when you can grind a tier 10 Yamato for absolutely nothing. People who spend money on tier ship replicas create a problem that WG exploits. No demand, no supply.

I wouldnt say she isnt worth it. I won the Arp Yamato by lottery and found out, the module is missing. So it was about spending all that money but getting back 30k+ Dubloons since I had her already. Its a huge difference in gameplay to me, that precision gives me almost twice the citadel amount I usually had on Yamato. And way more devastating strikes, even without citadel strikes. Atm I would say that ship is overpowered - what annoys me already is the to be expected fact, that after a while they will nerf the ship and bring in something new into the game being imbalanced then again. The old principle : Sell at the limit of what people are willing to pay for a short period of a superior ship. Then nerf it and repeat that game. But ok - we know it, and we make that decision every time for the next gimmick. This one was worth it to me, but thats a personal thing.
APC Smart UPS, the item that matters most is the VA of the UPS, make sure it is rated for the power draw of the connected devices on the battery backup outlets on the back. EG: APC UPS 1500VA or APC 1500VA Smart UPS with SmartConnect

Well yamato is probably the last BB with original around real life turret traverse. Others even warspite got it buffed more or less. Also the leg mod is rly quite nerfed, and even the dispersion doesnt seems that great anymore (as vertical is shit and are bb's with better sigma). Also didnt on release the leg mod had also way better accuracy buff. Also that cit... Holy shit Yamato had a citadel with deck on waterline and half way underwater. In game its so nerfed its just sad. Also that price for that ARP... just WOW bullshit
Yamato got buffed too, from 72 seconds to 60 seconds. Musashi still has the 72 second traverse. Queen Elizabeth also has the original QE class 72 second traverse still.
I don't know why but I really can't aim properly with Yamato, even at long range with Republique, JB or Thunderer no problem, but I don't know why Yami shoot just don't work for me (maybe something with my crosshair).
PQ why does the ARP Yamato have two people on deck? I thought WG said they couldn't add people on deck due to ratings. So since they added anime girls on deck, can we have men manning the AA guns now?
UPS: I've used UPS's with my main computer, network HW and NAS's for years (15+). Mainly APC, but I've recently moved to Cyberpower (last 3-4 years) and they work great. Sine Wave 1500va version. Handles all the tiny power outages great, and on a larger outage (over 5 minutes) I just gracefully turn everything off. They last 4-5 years but eventually the battery goes. You can get a replacement battery (which I've done a few times) or just buy a new unit.
ARP Kongos, Myoko's and Takao were earnable in combat missions back in the day, through they didn't had any bonuses, being just tier 5-7-8 special ships they added premium bonuses when they were made purchasable.
Yamato is unfortunately just very outdated. Yes you get overmatch, but the turret traverse is woeful and the hull is just straight up bad. Not to mention its damage control is really bad too.
If it was $100 i would have bought it but they are for some reason keeping thier pricing really high for these niche ships. Tier 8 should be around 50 tier 9, 80 with tier 10 pulling around $100 idk why they think $200 is a fair price for an ingame item.
I got my ARP Yamato when it was first for sale and it was far less expensive. And yes, in that original even I ¨earned¨ the four premium Kongo clones. I´m glad I got this back in the day.
I have 2 cyberpower UPS's , specifically the CP15. i've had no problems, it has helped perfectly many times when the power goes out or flickers which it tends to do in wind storms in my area. and i've worked in IT for 12 years.. i can recommend them :)
A UPS can be a tricky to size. If you have a big modern graphics card, or see yourself upgrading to one in the next few years, I would recommend a 1500 VA system if you looking at APC. While you stated you just want to be able to handle short outages, which would otherwise argue for a smaller size, you still need to be able handle the peak loads of a modem GPU, and that requires a large battery even if you only use a slim portion of its storage capacity.

Forming a good solder joint between copper and aluminum is EXTREMELY difficult. Also, aluminum wiring in a home is not code and should be replaced.

No idea why they said no to the cyber power one. I have a Cyber UPS with Sinewave. Have had it five + years now.. works perfectly. And reicently bought the smallest one to power my power chairs when the power goes out with the inclament weather. My 60" Plasma, my 11 ch Onkyo TXNR 10030 Receiver, my 5 ch HK 2.1 amp, my bluray player, my record player, my pc, my router, my two def tech 8060 powered towers and my svs sub.. alo hooked up to the upc.. never a peep.. more often than not. When I have my headphones on I done even notice the power out or blip. It will go about 25 minutes all gear on.. OR2200LCDRT2U is the model.. even has front batter with hot swap capable. So who ever said Cyber is bad is just a hater. My dad has a apc that he likes is about 7 years old for his pc's. He is a cpa so needed to save the programs and work he has done. Sorry this ran on wanted to give you a look at the load capibility and assure you waht ever you get they are worth it.. plus much easier on your gear.

I am a little grind goblin it once took me to regrind shimekaze line in 2 days in my opinion 200 bucks for a free ship is not worth it. If it was a unique like slava then maybe worth it.

I've always preferred the reload mod over the legendary one, as DPS is everything. Also, that turret traverse just make it too torturous to be viable, especially in a game that is so RNG-dependent on whether you score that citadel or not.

FYI if power goes out, so too will your router and modem so the backup power won't prevent being disconnected from the game.
I have a small second UPS just for this purpose.
Tower, Monitor, Modem, Router, all can connect to the back of the same UPS (as long as the UPS can provide the proper wattage). 1500va typically relates to 900watts. which is plenty for most people.

For Ups definetly go for one with more Watts than your psu.
And treat it like a psu, its better to have extra room (it will translate to extra minutes on anyway).
And also as devices age, they lose efficiency and draw more power, for psu, usually its the battery after some years that might need replacement.
However that said I have one from Cyberlink (900W). Pc runs on 150~350W (but its no modern gpu), and it gives about 30-40mins.
Think VA about duration, and Watt, a threshold to be able to stay on.
The hardware seems fine and does its job, but the software is meh.

I have such a love hate relationship with the Yamato. So much so that I dumped some extra money on credits and got the satsuma. Whenever I’m having a bad time with a battleship, I play a couple randoms with the satsuma which I find trolls me sooo much less than the Yamato. Plus it feels like the shells perform better at range

At one point they sold a booster that lets you level through the IJN BB line faster. They also included the clothes hanger camo for the Yamato as a final reward.
APC 1500 should keep the power drops from restarting your computer and allow you to power off properly in the event of a power failure for a few minutes. Depending on your system specs of course. 900 Watts of continuous power or less. I have been using APC for several years.
Yes APC is the best for UPS (Easy Parts like replacement battery when needed and best battery life span)

On the matter of UPS, I have a Cyberpower 1500VA holding up the main tower, monitors, router and USB storage, and a 900VA holding up the TrueNAS Core box, 2.5GbE switch and fibre NTD. I also have an extra ace in the hole, I equipped my solar system with grid disconnect and keep a 20% reserve. Still need the UPSs to keep the electronics running through the solar system switch over.
The Cyberpowers work fine. At the consumer level I'd say it's less about brand and more about price point. These held up fine during a storm event that killed the power so hard that some of my power points wouldn't work from the grid disconnect temporarily (had to reset everything). UPSs kept everything running long enough to find sockets still held up on the solar battery.
I never spend money on this game for years now..... and it feels so good.
I do enjoy the Yamato still but if an enemy ship shows up on the opposite side your turrets are on you can get farmed to death before the ship and her turrets get turned in time to even fire a shot back
35:21 i personally use APC ups too and would def refer it over cyberpower anytime. compared to cyberpower, APC ones are better as they are much efficient and on diff loads handle quite well plus reliable too. I'm running a 1k VA cuz my PSU is 700 watt. you can adjust how much you need as per your power consumption load.

Yeah, I don’t really see the benefit of Yama over Vermont. The only thing it really has is overmatch and a bit of speed, but the overmatch isn’t all that relevant with how much damage superstructure gives you these days.
Vermont's 40 second reload is torturous to play with. You CAN get the reload mod, but you absolutely need the dispersion one unless you want German BB levels of dispersion.

UPS advice, realize that you are looking at consumer-grade products and your audience is probably split between home users who have limited data behind their advice, and IT professionals who have lots of experience with industrial grade UPS products.
APC is a Big Name in server and data center power systems. Their consumer grade products are good too, but what I have seen the quality is not very different from consumer grade UPS's from CyberPower or Tripplite or Belkin.
In other words, your price point has more effect on quality than brand. At that level.
Lots of advice to get 1500VA size. I agree. If it helps, my gaming PC draws about 350W in WoWS and that size UPS gives me about 20 minutes run time.
And yes get a separate smaller UPS for your network gear. PC shuts down, you still have wi-fi.
UPS's are rated in VA, which is roughly but not truly max wattage. And it is not battery capacity. You'll find they track together but just keep in mind they are not the same.
Your PC might require True Sine Wave power. This feature is more expensive than Simulated (stepped) Sine Wave. If you need it, you need it. If you don't, you don't. There is no grey.
My kit is fine with Simulated Sine Wave and I am equally happy with my APC model BX1500M and CyberPower model CST135UC2 at home. Both are major brands that I have worked with in offices for years.
I got the first one and the second one. But the range mod screwed me. Never saw that one equipped. I was betting on accuracy on the third, well guess you don't actually need it.
So, in conclusion: don't waste money in this thing, if you want it just buy the bonus pack for the tech line Yamato. Or, if you completed the High School Fleet collection when it was available the reward was that (and the Movie Camo and some flags).
A 54k game, through no fault of PQ's. If you were trying to get the top BB patch, the one where you have to average like 108k per match over 100 matches, you'd be 60k below the average needed. It would negate _many_ good games. I think the escalation in the game, esp with CVs and subs, has made this achievement nearly impossible.

I wouldnt say she isnt worth it. I won the Arp Yamato by lottery and found out, the module is missing. So it was about spending all that money but getting back 30k+ Dubloons since I had her already. Its a huge difference in gameplay to me, that precision gives me almost twice the citadel amount I usually had on Yamato. And way more devastating strikes, even without citadel strikes. Atm I would say that ship is overpowered - what annoys me already is the to be expected fact, that after a while they will nerf the ship and bring in something new into the game being imbalanced then again. The old principle : Sell at the limit of what people are willing to pay for a short period of a superior ship. Then nerf it and repeat that game. But ok - we know it, and we make that decision every time for the next gimmick. This one was worth it to me, but thats a personal thing.

APC Smart UPS, the item that matters most is the VA of the UPS, make sure it is rated for the power draw of the connected devices on the battery backup outlets on the back. EG: APC UPS 1500VA or APC 1500VA Smart UPS with SmartConnect

Well yamato is probably the last BB with original around real life turret traverse. Others even warspite got it buffed more or less. Also the leg mod is rly quite nerfed, and even the dispersion doesnt seems that great anymore (as vertical is shit and are bb's with better sigma).
Also didnt on release the leg mod had also way better accuracy buff.
Also that cit... Holy shit Yamato had a citadel with deck on waterline and half way underwater. In game its so nerfed its just sad.

Yamato got buffed too, from 72 seconds to 60 seconds. Musashi still has the 72 second traverse. Queen Elizabeth also has the original QE class 72 second traverse still.
I don't know why but I really can't aim properly with Yamato, even at long range with Republique, JB or Thunderer no problem, but I don't know why Yami shoot just don't work for me (maybe something with my crosshair).

UPS: I've used UPS's with my main computer, network HW and NAS's for years (15+). Mainly APC, but I've recently moved to Cyberpower (last 3-4 years) and they work great. Sine Wave 1500va version. Handles all the tiny power outages great, and on a larger outage (over 5 minutes) I just gracefully turn everything off.
They last 4-5 years but eventually the battery goes. You can get a replacement battery (which I've done a few times) or just buy a new unit.

ARP Kongos, Myoko's and Takao were earnable in combat missions back in the day, through they didn't had any bonuses, being just tier 5-7-8 special ships

Yamato is unfortunately just very outdated. Yes you get overmatch, but the turret traverse is woeful and the hull is just straight up bad. Not to mention its damage control is really bad too.
If it was $100 i would have bought it but they are for some reason keeping thier pricing really high for these niche ships. Tier 8 should be around 50 tier 9, 80 with tier 10 pulling around $100 idk why they think $200 is a fair price for an ingame item.

I got my ARP Yamato when it was first for sale and it was far less expensive. And yes, in that original even I ¨earned¨ the four premium Kongo clones. I´m glad I got this back in the day.
I have 2 cyberpower UPS's , specifically the CP15. i've had no problems, it has helped perfectly many times when the power goes out or flickers which it tends to do in wind storms in my area. and i've worked in IT for 12 years.. i can recommend them :)

A UPS can be a tricky to size. If you have a big modern graphics card, or see yourself upgrading to one in the next few years, I would recommend a 1500 VA system if you looking at APC. While you stated you just want to be able to handle short outages, which would otherwise argue for a smaller size, you still need to be able handle the peak loads of a modem GPU, and that requires a large battery even if you only use a slim portion of its storage capacity.
