BUT short fuses which do great damage to lightly armored targets (like 6 pens on a DD). BUT unlike other short fused ships, which cause you to not hit citadels, Stalin always gets to the citadels... 🤔🤔... Magic!
Ship positioning is one of the most important parts of this game. Yet, it is barely even mentioned by most CCs. Instead of another ship review, I would rather see a video on how you should position yourself as a DD, CA, BB player where there is (not) a CV in the game etc. I know there is a lot to this so it surprises me that it is not talked about more.
I was debating between the Stalin, Shiki, or the Larnia - realized the Shiki was pretty much an upgraded Yamato or that Super ship and the Italian BBs haven’t been a line I played with much. I also realized my style of ships were exactly what the Stalin was: fast Battlecruisers with semi-BB armor, BB guns, BB anti-air - most of my most played ships were cruisers with BB traits. Hell the Tirtpiz, Pomm, Scharhoust, and even the Brandanburg could be battlecruisers So I got the Stalin last night. No regret, she fits my style - occasional taking flanks, rushing center, and even forcing 3 ships back as their shots bounce off my angled ship. Wish she had more secondaries though

A clanmate has the Plymouth. He says it´s little more than a Tier X Edinburgh. The good thing is that it doesn´t have to chose between smoke and radar.
Stalingrad is what I play when I'm pissed at my battleships trolling me or my cruisers getting too explodey. It's still hilarious what damage this thing can soak and spit out in return. For my steel, I would definitely buy Stalin first (probably)
I bought stalingrad as my 1st Steel ship. I never regret that. It gives me exactly what i needed from at least some ship. Consitency of the guns that rewards aim and not taking half year to reward me (Vermont) Only thing that is torn in my foot are subs, they will ping me and then what. Fires or remove pings. Since Stalingrad takes ages to turn its almost impossible to dodge pinged torps.
Sovetskaya Rossiya was one of the Project 23 Battleships, she had been laid down but was only around 1% completed when her steel was deemed more important for Tanks and she was scrapped. Meaning yes she is a Sovetsky Soyuz class. Also the AL is "Azur Lane" the mobile game that Warships colabs with a fair bit. Adding this edit: 20:16 That's honestly true of every ship. It's not unique to Stalingrad, it's true of every large calibre ship in the game. The game really needs to start weighing damage that actually applies vs damage dealt. Sure it looks impressive if you can pull 300k damage out of a game, but if only 120k of that actually stuck because the rest was all fires and HE spam that got healed off. You should only get rewarded for that 120k damage dealt. That way ships that do just kite away and spam HE don't get rewarded for playing wrong.
Looking at the ships while you discuss armor layout and such I am thinking it would be great if wg would to put sailors on the ships while in port so we can better appreciate the actual dimensions of ships when compared to human size.
Ngl I still feel like stalingrad is very tanky, you just have to make sure that you can disengage when you're getting set on fire. Which isn't a big deal because she has the accuracy to get work done at 15 km anyway. Close up, many good BB players know to aim for your nose so either you have to bait them into shooting your side or you eat shit. My win rate in stalin, alaska, marseille is much higher than other ships simply because I stay alive for longer in them
Stalin also takes a lot of pain from CVs, especially AP bombs because its clunky and huge. Your AA is good and you occasionally get the "Soviet bullshit flak clouds" and wipe a squad but if your bow in at an island a Haku absolutely shreds you with your huge size, weak torp protection and big citadel. That's very different in a Petro too
The best part about playing the "selfish" way at the back of the map with HE spamming, is that you then get to call all the rest of your team noobs when your team is losing and you are still alive.
Stalin has always had a very weak broadside, similarly Edgar isn't just AP its SAP. I still love it, if you angle well it's really tanky, lack of fire prention does make it much more vultnerable to fires and torps plus aa is pretty weak so vulnerable to subs and carriers and getting sniped on broadside but the guns are so good that I love playing it as long as you're careful and mitigate your damage with islands etc. it's great. For me it's the epitome of the ship that you ask for - mess up you get punished get it right it's lethal. In terms of citadels - broadside stalin has always been incredibly weak - Petro is just OP... I find that there's some wierd accuracy in WoWs for all ships - at close range dispersion goes right up - you can hit a citadel at long range where a fraction of a degree would send your shells all over the place. Get close and your shells still go all over the place and you get similar damage - it's a game mechanic I think.
The fact that steel series ships are limited in numbers, buying most of them is a must to own in the collection. Coz at some point maybe they will be removed, some will be moved to coal section shop.
Stalingrad is good, very good but it's been heavily power crept. Seeing one was a cause for genuine concern and players would avoid this ship if they could. The amount of overmatch, the way the game plays now with the CV and Sub threats, the extremely passive meta. It's hard to use Stalingrad without getting caught and if you get focused or show a little broadside, you're done. It's a very big and sluggish ship which can't really disengage. So you have to play quite passive and it's a shame because a Stalingrad managing to get broadsides is punishing. Also, the lack of hydro is frankly ridiculous in 2024. Either give it as an extra consumable or let it swap Def Fire for it. The biggest hit though is that citadels are basically becoming very hard to hit, new ships tend to be very newer player friendly now and citadels tend to be underwater.
similar to the Moscow, when you get set on fire which happens pretty easily you burn and burn badly and there are just too many HE spammer ships in the game now. not uncommon to be rocking multiple fires when a single round just lands in your general direction. Angled right can ricochet enemy AP ok enough but same as Moscow and Petro you need those good concealed bow in positions to survive. You can get severely punished for taking on too much and being in the open.
As a mainly DD player Stali's scare me - it's a real barrier to getting into caps because of the radar. I fancy giving it a go but I like DDs (torp really) and already have Petro - is it worth blowing most of my steel on or should I go Ragnar or something???
Fair call and a gr8 review, whilst the HE spam option looks bad from a team perspective.....who plays for the team anymore? Mostly the playerbase kites or stays in spawn. So at least the versalitle Staly can go the long distance option, similar to Moskva in 2024......why push into subs? why stay perma spotted by a cv and focus fired all because you wanted to push and win.....theres very little support play in this last patch/game. The new normal is here, dated pushing like the good ol days of Staly a thing of the past, unless you have a legit division maybe.
For me Stalingrad is the best super cruiser in this game, followed by PR and Alaska, but I would still pick Stalingrad for its accuracy and the super punchy shells coupled with flat shell arcs.
Seems like it has the same weakness and armor scheme as Slava, same kind of tight shot grouping, or maybe even better than Stalingrad. Research Bureau is also easier to get points than steel
Please give me some information: top 3 ships resistant to HE spam, top 3 ships that have the most accurate guns and top 3 ships that are the most resistant to shell hits. A million thx man 🍻
Stalin is a very good ship, always feel I have enough punching power to wreck everyone until i get spotted earlier then stuck bow in for 5 minutes farmed by every red ships while each of my salvo only score 5k lol
No one needs to shoot bows for overmatch anymore it seems. They just aim for the superstructure and get 15k vollies while your bow in or skim the side of your 80° angled Kurfurst for 20k with guns that don't have overmatch. I've honestly found I have better luck just saing broadside in a straight line.
I have played since beta, but only got my first Steel ship today, and it was the stalingrad. Broke 200k dmg first game, the AP slaps harder than BB's, at least that is what it feels like. I am not sorry.
Stanlingrad is still a very dangerous ship, but you can simply burn it down in no time these days. I hate when the guys with 12km radar never get within 12km of anything worth radaring, which happens way to often.
I already own Ragnar, and for my second steel ship, I purchased Stalingrad and played a single game. While it provides a decent and unique gaming experience, it isn't worth the investment as a first or second choice. That's why I opted to return it and bought Lauria instead. Hopefully, I will buy it in the future as my third steel ship.
Now thats very silly to play 1 game then hand in the best steel ship in the game. It has a unique playstyle, but it's reputation is right for reason, even in the current state of the game. When I am having a bad run, the 1st ship I goto is the Stali. The guns are insane even at max range with range mod. I have triple citadeled a petro at 22km a few times to say the least.
Trust me, I am well aware of what Stalingrad can and cannot do. As a Clan Commander, I've tested Stalingrad numerous times. It lacks the armor of Petro and the radar of Moskva. Unable to HE spam, the ship requires opponents to expose their broadside for effective damage, which is nearly impossible in clan wars. Adding to the challenges, it is susceptible to easy HE farming due to longer fire sets and a large superstructure. So, don't be misled by a "single game" statement, as I know Stalingrad better than you ever will. What you may not realize is that there are two superior ships, Ragnar and Lauria, both outclassing Stalingrad in their respective categories and utility. This holds true for random battles as well. @@JT-4real
I am also clan commander in the SEA server. I have around 6k games. The Stalingrad was my first steel ship which I have had for a very long time, so to presume you know it better than me is a touch egotistical. Now back to the matter at hand, the Stalingrad may not suit every player in CB, but it still has perfect utility in a capable players hand. On a flank push with range mod it can delete a ship on the opposite flank given its Stalinium shells and godtier sigma and dispersion. So in the class of Steel ships I still believe it holds it's own it 2024 and is a perfectly good ship to recommend as a first steel ship buy. On a side note I also have the Ragnar as I am a DD main, it is a fantastic ship, but its skill ceiling is way higher than the Stalingrad's given its role in CB's. You don't see many people playing Ragnar in randoms, but Stalins are a plenty in both Randoms and CB's. This video is about the Stalin in 2024, PQ is wrong and played it like a muppet and did not play it to it's strengths to get the best out of it. I also acknowledge your points and they are valid, but Petro and Moskva are not Steel ships and are in a catagory of their own and bring their own utility, which if you are a seasoned player will understand it's place, especially in CB's. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.
I think it´s easy to guess what your ranking is going to be as far as steel cruisers. Unless I´m forgetting one, the only other options are the Plymouth and the Vallejo. Neither of which is better in any way than the Stalingrad. So I think I can safely predict that your ranking will be 1. Stalingrad, 2. Plymouth and 3. Vallejo. I would be shocked and would fully disagree if it turns out to be any different.
So I just got 28k steel, and I want a steel Cruiser or BB. I’m not quite able to get a Lauria or Bourgogne, but I’m close. What do I get first? Thank you for these vids they’re helping me with my choice.
@@stefanleclair5334 my experience has been that while the petro is strong its guns can't compete with stalingrad, if your looking for a cruiser stalingrad is the way to go. As for a BB Bourgogne is the best. Hope this helps
Stalin's dispersion is better, alpha is better, fire chance is better, it may be faster, range is better, I'm not sure if the petro gets improved angles also on the shells.
I have just Moskva/Petro no Stalin so can't directly compare them, but I think Moskva is more universal ship. It can just do everything. With Stalin you don't really want to go closer into DDs torp range cos you have no hydro. So you have more powerfull AP but you trade it for no hydro, just 20s radar vs 30s radar and slower reload. Stalin is better against BBs, Moskva is much better against DDs. And for cruiser they are both deadly if they show broadside.
the short version: more accurate guns, lower DPM, more AP focused, dies easier, can get smashed easier, doesn't have hydro, but doesn't explode when showing just a little bit of side (and can sometimes live big hits moskva wouldn't). Moskva likes to hump islands where Stalin really just plays like a small battleship.
They are very different ships. Moskva better HE, good AP ahainst cruisers. Strong against dds because of the HE. Not as prone to die to HE spam because of 30s fires compared to stalin 60s. Cant really compare them because they play totally different. Both are lots of fun tho
@zhenhao_ng wouldnt really recommend specific one. Really depends on what kind of playstile you prefer. Stalin plays a little bit more bb-ish than the others. Newsky is a kiting HE monster. Petro super tanky but i personally dont like it. Moskwa is just a fun allrounder
Kinda feel like you kept trying to say that this ship isnt what it used to be anymore while continuously dev striking and hitting people for 15k-50k dmg per salvo on a like 15 second reload 😂😂
I have the Puerto Rico with Halsey which better armor and not as good main battery and better concealment. The French Marseille is better than the Stalingrad and probably the PR. Mareille has speed boost, reload booster, has better armor, main battery, and concealment. I don't think it is worth the steel in today's game. At tier IX there is a large number of battlecruiser style cruiser that will competitive against the Stalingrad.
This game is run by algorithms, the algorithms adjust salvo placement for however the game is being played out. I'm a retired mechanical engineer and can spot algorithms immediately. This game is NOT what you think it is.

Consitency of the guns that rewards aim and not taking half year to reward me (Vermont)
Only thing that is torn in my foot are subs, they will ping me and then what.
I just got this a few months ago; my first (and only) steel ship. I'm a DD main so I don't play it much, but it's a beast.
I really enjoy this series. You could do the same with reserch ships and coal. Love your videos
Looking at the ships while you discuss armor layout and such I am thinking it would be great if wg would to put sailors on the ships while in port so we can better appreciate the actual dimensions of ships when compared to human size.
Your laugh is what makes it for me hehe. I hope to find you back in the battle rooms of WOW. Greetings!
Stalin has to be, hands down, the best steel cruiser in game. So why begin with it? :D
What team panels do you use?
In its prime, the Stalingrad was more or less a laser-accurate satellite cannon that fired meteors for shells.
Interesting video, considering getting this ship without any other steel ships tbh
The fact that steel series ships are limited in numbers, buying most of them is a must to own in the collection. Coz at some point maybe they will be removed, some will be moved to coal section shop.
I'm waiting for next video about AUSTIN !!
I fancy giving it a go but I like DDs (torp really) and already have Petro - is it worth blowing most of my steel on or should I go Ragnar or something???
really curious on your thoughts between the Colbert and the Jinan.
Between the various t10 stalinium cruisers in the game now, whats the strongest?
Love the videos, PQ! Keep em coming
why would you not want the soviet railguns with stalinium shells?
Seems like it has the same weakness and armor scheme as Slava, same kind of tight shot grouping, or maybe even better than Stalingrad. Research Bureau is also easier to get points than steel
Please give me some information: top 3 ships resistant to HE spam, top 3 ships that have the most accurate guns and top 3 ships that are the most resistant to shell hits.
A million thx man 🍻
I love those aim bugs when you just put the crosshair in the center of the ship, way above waterline and then shells land 2km shorter than you aimed.
Stalin is a very good ship, always feel I have enough punching power to wreck everyone until i get spotted earlier then stuck bow in for 5 minutes farmed by every red ships while each of my salvo only score 5k lol
Realy wonder what mods he is using for his hud??
Hopefully, I will buy it in the future as my third steel ship.
whats the most efficient way of getting steel?
Battlepass, ranked games, *clan wars. The highest is clan wars. @@xFreeland1
What mods u use?
It's not so much how the Stalin has changed, but more how the game around it has changed
The Petro is FTW!
I wish this video had come out about a month ago before I got Stalingrad as my first steel ship. 😅
So I just got 28k steel, and I want a steel Cruiser or BB. I’m not quite able to get a Lauria or Bourgogne, but I’m close. What do I get first? Thank you for these vids they’re helping me with my choice.
My question is more: do I grind a petro and get another ship?
@@stefanleclair5334 my experience has been that while the petro is strong its guns can't compete with stalingrad, if your looking for a cruiser stalingrad is the way to go. As for a BB Bourgogne is the best. Hope this helps
plz can you tell me which crossair you using?
It's one from the aslain-mod
But why should I get this ship when I can get the same (if not better) experience from the Petro for free?
Stalin's dispersion is better, alpha is better, fire chance is better, it may be faster, range is better, I'm not sure if the petro gets improved angles also on the shells.
This just looks ridiculously OP 😂
How does Stalingrad compare to Moskva?
@@MK-wx5vu which do you recommend getting? I don't have the Petro/Moskva/Stalingrad/Nevsky.
Now there's just more that can kill you, like SAP. SAP wasn't there before. New ammo, new ships with gimmicks. Stalingrad is still tanky.
Ship request: Worcester
Kinda feel like you kept trying to say that this ship isnt what it used to be anymore while continuously dev striking and hitting people for 15k-50k dmg per salvo on a like 15 second reload 😂😂
answer is Yes
I have the Puerto Rico with Halsey which better armor and not as good main battery and better concealment. The French Marseille is better than the Stalingrad and probably the PR. Mareille has speed boost, reload booster, has better armor, main battery, and concealment. I don't think it is worth the steel in today's game. At tier IX there is a large number of battlecruiser style cruiser that will competitive against the Stalingrad.
My only Steel Cruiser.
A ship cannot die. You sink a ship ;)
Come play on the Asia server, the US server looks like easy mode.
Stalingrad doesn't feel tanky because of number of 457mm guns in randoms and high caliber HE spam
My opinion, ofc
Hey PQ, sorry about rushing you in a Khaba a few days ago.
In my defense, I was in a Khaba.
This game is run by algorithms, the algorithms adjust salvo placement for however the game is being played out. I'm a retired mechanical engineer and can spot algorithms immediately. This game is NOT what you think it is.
I hate it because of the horrible concealment.
A lot of gun weirdness come from aim bug.
Yes
meanwhile moskva with the worst of both petro and Stalingrad
PQ can you play the Alabama next? It would be nice to see how she fares in 2024
yes
Your chat is questionable. Spam HE from range? Nah, why not play it like Slava instead.
better than austin, i can tell you that...
mfw a cruiser has better HP than rupprecht
🥰🥰
Stalingrad power-crept. Cry me a river 😅😂
fire damage should at least be halved, boring game by far
