    Thank you so so so much! God bless you sir, immensely!!! Due to some circumstances I'm in charge of the mixer at my church. I never fully understood how it worked, all my previous teachers where's abismal and left 99% of the info out. You are a life saver sir! I am finally able to understand how to work my mixer. I am very glad I was able to find your video as it is very hard to find actually competent videos directed to beginners or those who don't really know what they are doing (me 😂😂😂😂)
    Well, thanks again and keep making these awesome videos, I'ma watch them all!!! (well at least the ones I need 😅😅😅)
    Great video, I'ma show this to anyone who wants to learn how to use a mixer, you are a super great teacher! I look forward to all of your future videos, as they are a great blessing to everyone watching them. God bless!

    Cheers Bruno! Many thanks for the comprehensive rundown over the 3 videos. I now know everything I need to know about my MG12XU console & also know where to come for support if I need it. Many of your other tutorial videos have helped my knowledge base and you are now 1 of my main "Go to guys" when I need to figure something out. I especially love the simple way you explain things. A lot of the other guys on the "Auld You Tube" seem to like showing off their nerdy technical side and often go off on tangents which only confuse rather than teach. You stay on point and keep it simple. KUDOS! I have just signed up on Patreon!!!!

    I have an MG16XU (very similar mixer, just fewer channels and a slightly different arrangement). I perform vocals and acoustic guitar at local venues, and I'm always fighting with my board because I don't really understand what a lot of the controls do and what's coming out of the three speakers (two FOH and one monitor). I just twist knobs and press buttons until the sound is good enough. After watching these videos, I feel MUCH more confident with what I will be doing moving forward. Thank you for this great tutorial, cheers!

      @@GLBProductions Wow, thanks again. I will. In fact when I get the time I'll go through all your videos.
      You also revealed in that training that the usb was bi-directional which makes sense so I tried playing music off my laptop through the mixer via usb. I knew the head phone jack was inferior but the difference was beyond what I would have suspected.

      Happy new year Bruno. My MG20XU arrived. Of what I have learned from your tutorials, it works well. I'll give you my situation and then have a request for your kind consideration. I am presently in the US (110 V) and my equipment so far is MG20XU, 5 mic stands with booms, 5 dynamic mics, 2 condenser mics, 2 Passive DI boxes (again thanks for your DI videos), xlr cables and TRS cables. I'll likely move to Asia (230 V as you well know) in a few months and the country I will be residing in has very few/non existent pro-audio stores and likely will have commensurate low support but high prices. I plan to gather likeminded folks there and hopefully set grounds for eventually decent family n friends and small local community music performances. I have a room about 20ftX25ft there already that I intend for practice/jams/recording (guitars, keyboards, drums, vocals mainly). This request is for my need but considering that with COVID-19 vaccinations hopefully soon, people will be getting back into jams etc (interestingly and understandably guitars/keyboards/mics sales spiked here during pandemic), would it be possible for you to do one or two videos on what are reliable brands/models options for automatic dual voltage capable powered active loudspeakers and monitors (pros and cons). I saw a couple of TH-cam videos where alternative options as an additional headphones box/amp (?) connected to mixer were mentioned. From it monitor mixes are sent out to band members over their headphones. Also if you could please explain in your excellent calm and easy to understand basic things manner, as to what other equipment might be required in my situation, it will be appreciated greatly. I would prefer to purchase the equipment in the US (music stores I know well) and ship it with our household items. Separately and as background, I am trying to make and record music compositions for myself. This is all a hobby at this stage. For this I have an IMac, Garage Band, Apogee Duet 2 audio interface and Adam Audio S3XH monitors. I do have numerous guitars, guitar amp, floor guitar effects processors, and keyboard (Korg Kronos2). Thank you for your kind attention and looking forward to your reply. I'm not technically adept but happy to learn always.

    Thanks, we use one of these at our church. I tend to record the whole mass, including any muso's. As you said the band recording can be a poor representation especially if they use guitar amps etc, that are not mic'd, however some of our performers are all through the PA and record well, and we use the recordings for other masses where there are no other options available. At times I prefer the local recordings over a CD, as it was "performed for us".
    I try and mix bands more as if they are being recorded, so the mix is the 'full' sound of them because the band is off to the side and only those "over there" will get the direct band sound where as quite a lot of the rest of the congregation far from the band will get a 'strange' sound if it were mixed to only augment their direct sound. (not present to most)

    Our church uses harddiskogg (open source) which can record continuosly to MP3. This has the advantage of zero save time, reduced file size (no chance of running out of disk space), and if there is a power failure you still have everything up to that point. It has metering and AGC.

    • @echan101
      @echan101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hanabibebecina3884 Yes you could, but if there are multiple instruments and your mixer supports multitrack recording, then that is probably a better option so that you can master the tracks individually afterwards to balance their gains (volumes).
      If you don't have a multitrack recorder you can record in stereo with two mics. If you want to record a particular instrument at the same time you can even just record using your phone, just set it to record to WAV at the best quality. These days the mics in phones are so good (electret flat freq response).

    Such a great 3-part series on this mixing board! Really helped me get up to speed.
    You mention that we shouldn't use just the USB output of the board to record a live gig, and your explanation as to why not makes sense. Do you have a recommendation on how to properly record a live performance from a typical rock/pop cover band? Thank you!!!!

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Bryan - this is quite an involved topic, and there are as many ways to do this as there are recording engineers 😅 The 'proper' way to do it, to use your choice is words, would be to record every input separately, to a hardware or computer-based multitrack recorder, including ambient microphones for the audience, and then remix it in a studio at a later date to create a 'proper' live album.
      In the real world, it's possible to simplify this process by combining the LR feed from the mixer with a pair of ambient mics or even the built in mics on a handheld recorder, to produce a result that is perfectly acceptable.
      More advice here, which might be useful to you: www.prosoundweb.com/backstage-class-how-not-to-record-a-live-album/

    Hi GLB, I have a question and I hope you can answer. We have MG20XU in our church and I am using the Aux 1 and 2 for monitor speakers. The problem is I don't hear the built-in effects when using these aux sections. I haven't tried aux 3 and 4 but of course I will use aux 1 and 2 because they are pre-fader aux. Have you ever tested it with your MG20Xu? Do you have a solution for my problem?

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Lester, on this particular model the internal effects can only be routed to the main LR outputs - there is no way to route them to the aux sends. If you need effects in the monitors you will need to connect an external FX unit.

    Thanks for this. Question: White Aux 2/fx dial. I use Aux 1 and 2 for stage monitors. Turning the dial for Aux 2 clockwise increases the line/channel output through my monitor. But can I add fx (fir vocal) to the Aux 2 monitor mix, and increase fx without increasing the channel/line volume through the monitor (or vice verca) 😊

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome Georgia. On this particular model it is not possible to send the internal FX to the aux sends, only to the main LR mix.

      This is a known issue with this mixer - the only way to deal with it is to raise the level of the channel gains and/or channel faders above normal operating levels - this will raise the level of the USB output but will also risk distortion. Alternatively, use a separate USB interface with a higher output level.
