Yamaha MG12XU Mixer Tutorial Part One

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 14 มิ.ย. 2024
- The Yamaha MG12XU is a 12-channel analog mixer with USB interface. It's a great console for smaller bands, corporate rental and AV work as well as simple home recording. In contrast to the MG20XU series this one is filmed with me behind the camera, which allows you to see all the small details of the knobs, faders and controls.

Thanks alot!
thank you so much.
Thanks. What measure of cable Do You use for the USB 2.0 connection?
@@juanriquelme9385 Typically 1.5 to 2m, although longer may be possible.
@@GLBProductions Thanks. I get a lot of hum noise with 1.8 meters. I don't know if the size, or the quality of the cable is the reason. Or both.
I am an electrical engineer by trade. Rarely does one encounter such concise language. Bravo.
Thanks for watching!
This is the best Yamaha MG12XU mixer tutorial I've come across on TH-cam. You've explained everything very well. Thank you
You're welcome Ajay :)
Hands down some of the best tutorials on TH-cam! Thank you sir!
By far the most helpful videos ive seen on mixers entirely!
Great to hear that!
you are the best teacher ever...
Thanks for watching Agra!
Wow. I am so glad I stumbled upon your video. Just bought the Yamaha M612XU Mixed today and watching this is so much better then reading the manual. Thanks for your work.
You're welcome Rafael, glad the video was helpful :)
Hi. You probably do the absolute best instructions on TH-cam, it is a great pleasure to share your knowledge. I look forward to every new episode and have never been disappointed. Thanks
You're most welcome my friend 😊
I agree, absolutely....
I totally agree! Bruno is the best!
Me too.. i agree . BRUNO the best maestro
This is by far the best mixer tutorial I've come across on TH-cam. I'm using this mixer now and you've explained everything I needed to know. Thank you.
You're welcome Evee, all the best with your music!
Completely i do agree with you/ the best tutorial.
I just learnt more in 20 minutes than I have in 10 years of live gigging 🤯 thanks for such an informative video
You're welcome! All the best for your music :)
GLB always puts out high quality and very informative videos on gear. I LOVE IT. Thanks Bruno !
Best easy to understand, comprehensive, good Voice
Thanks for watching Alton :)
Just bought one of these (my first mixer), and can't believe how much it can do! I'm used to all the vintage gear, and your video is super helpful! Thank you!
You're welcome, glad the video was helpful :)
Stan, does the mixer have a built in audio interface for smartphones?
@@pennywiser9607 you'll need a special cable for that. It looks funky, three connections. A 3.5mm connector for your phone (which you'll probably need an adapter for) and then it splits off into two (an xlr, I believe, and a trs connected). Kettner creations channel does an excellent demo of it. Hope that helps.
I truly found this tutorial super useful, therefore, I think I've fallen in love with your way of give instructions. Thank you so much!
You're welcome Ivan, thanks for watching 😊
Very informative Video m i would like to ask ,what is the maison difference between this model and the MG10XUF they look the same with the same design ,am wondering if getting the MG10XUF over the MG12XU is a good option , thank you
There are significant differences between these two consoles: the MG12XU has an internal power supply, two aux sends and two subgroups.
@GLB Productions thanks for the reply sorry for asking the question on two of your videos keep up the good work
Thank you for this video. A very helpful introduction to not only the mixer, but the concepts involved as well.
You're most welcome.
Not sure how I wound up here, but couldn't resist watching. Once I started listening to your delivery, I couldn't click away! I know this mixer very well. I'll have to say that your presentation style is fantastic! Great video.
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant. Wish this came out sooner before I had to figure the MG12XU myself in a live setting!
Hope that doesn't happen again!
Brilliant, was just looking for an overview of this mixer. As always, thorough, detailed and extremely helpful. Many thanks.
You're welcome Spencer.

That's great, hope your gig went well!
Just when I was starting to think about saving for a bit more time and getting this one instead of either the mg10xuf or the profx8 you post this video. Didn't even have to ask for it this time. Thanks again for sharing the knowledge. Bye, I have a video to watch.
You're welcome, hope the video was helpful in your decision :)
Thanks for this. I have used this mixer on a couple of small shows and was able to achieve some nice sound thanks to this video.

I finally had time to watch this. Very good intro into this mixer. I really find the PFL function useful and I wish it was available on some of the smaller mixers I've used.
Yes, I would say the PFL feature is an absolute necessity for any serious live sound mixer.
PFL... what is that mean? Tnx😷

Hello, thanks a lot for this excellent video ! I have the same for my drumset (4 dynamics micros & 2 overheads) and have somme questions : - 1) For the 2 Stereo Out, what is the best to use for an amplified speaker, XLR (balanced ) or Jack (TRS or TS ?) ? - 2) I also use this mixer to connect to a main mixer, what is the best connecting, XLR or Jack (TRS or TS ?) ? Do I have to use two Out or only one for connecting to the main mixer ? - 3) What is the difference between the 2 SEND (Aux 1 & Aux 2) & the 2 GROUP OUT ? Thanks again for your precious answer, musically, Emilio (France).
Hello Emilio! Some answers:
1. It depends on what the line input connectors on your powered speaker are - on some speakers the only line input available is a TRS connector.
2. Please watch my video on how to connect two analog mixers together - either connector can be used.
3. Aux sends can be pre- or post-fader, pre- or post-mute, and the amount of signal being sent can be varied independently of the fader position. Group outputs are always post-fader and post-mute, and the level of signal sent is always proportional the channel fader position. Aux sends are typically used for stage monitors or sending to external FX or recording units, groups are used more for managing groups of similar channels eg all your drum channels, all your vocals etc.
Super
Good
Great video. I've bought one of these mixer to use for a dual-pc stream. I've yet to set it up but I was wondering if you could clarify something for me...
If I have 1 mic setup through channel one and it's going out through Aux 1 to PC 1 & Aux 2 to PC 2, if I use FX will it be on both inputs at the same time or is it isolated only to Aux 2?
Lastly, if I just wanted to speak to one audience (aux) at a time without the other hearing me, am I able to mute that Aux output without interfering with the other?
I'm very new to this, so this setup might not even work or make any sense. Some guidance would be appreciated. Thanks again!
Interesting question, not one I've gotten before! In this case, if you use the FX they will only ever go to Aux 1 - the internal FX cannot be sent to aux 2 when it is used as an external send because that would create a feedback loop.
In your situation, may I suggest a simpler solution: use the L&R outputs to split your signal: connect PC1 to the left main output and PC2 to the right. If you want the signal to go to both PCs, pan the mic channel center. If you want it to go to PC1 only, pan hard left, and vice versa for PC2. This will give you full functionality of the effects for both destinations, and also keep both of them post-fader and post-mute. If you want to kill the feed to both PCs without disturbing the level, just switch the channel OFF.
Super tutorial.
Which mixer would you prefer. This , or the mackie profx 12
I'd be happy mixing on either one. The Mackie has one more mic preamp than the Yamaha, so that might make a difference in my voice.
Great Class ! I have a MG10XU doesn't have Aux , hopefully one day you can teach if theirs a possible way to use in ear monitors with it.
The MG10XU has FX, so you can route your IEM mix to the the FX out.
@@alexeytheinterpreter Thanks for the help !
