Juliette is going to fix the pump and that’s gonna lead her to the door in the down deep. I think we’ll also get closure with George because she will find his body. The thing that doesn’t work as well for me is how she’s going to get all the way down to mechanical in a homemade diving suit, under 100+ floors of water. On one hand, we know this is likely to happen. The door below the drill is the _Chekov’s Gun_ of this show. On the other hand, this show is _mostly_ going for a _grounding in reality_ (let’s not talk about Knox & Shirley diving off the causeway on the end of a flimsy winch cable) Here’s the math. According to set-construction documents produced by draftsperson, Jason Houssein, I have directly from the show, the distance between levels of the Silo (causeways) is 24’ 10-1/4”. Each level of the stairs includes 2 floors, as we see from the residential areas where dwellings are stacked two floors high. These are ~12’ tall interiors with 10” between (give or take) the floors being counted in the silo are 144, ~12’ high floors. There are 72 causeways off the central staircase x 24’-10-1/4” = ~1,789 deep plus the approximate 7-floors (according to Ian Fellows of Outpost VFX who made the 3D models of the generator and drill) that represent the generator and the drill _times_ ~12’ = ~84 feet deep for a total of 1,873 feet to the floor where the drill stopped cutting bedrock. .35-miles or 571 meters. _according to production documents_ (the best evidence I have so far!) The door may be even below that according to the diagram on the hard drive. ~100 are flooded or about 1,327 feet submerged under water. 404 meters or 221 fathoms. According to a freshwater depth calculator the pressure that far down will be ~39 bar. Or 574 pounds of pressure on _EVERY SQUARE INCH OF HER BODY!_ A dive that deep is utterly unsurvivable without a well engineered submarine or very sturdy diving bell.
I did a few calculations to figure out how much water is filling silo 17. I’m going to make the generous assumption that about one-quarter of the volume is filled with concrete or sealed rooms. That’s about 90 million cubic meters of water or about 12 billion gallons. I know they’re gonna have Juliette pump all that out before she dives but it took decades to fill up it will take decades to pump out.
As someone who found solo season 1 after it all premiered and binged it in about a 2 days. This season feels like it’s dragging so much. I wish people would go back to bingeable seasons
I have been really sick the last couple of days. I watched this episode earlier today, and I thought I had seen the whole thing. Watching your recap though, I realize that I must have slept through most of it!
Didn't buy the smooch! Comrades? Sure... But this may have just signalled the death of one of them, or ensured that they both end up on the wall. Head v Heart, dudes! Expected it but was hoping against hope they wouldn't! (grumbles)
Ok, here the deal : Robert Sims is more of a soldier and does not fit what Bernard sought. Bernard was looking for another him, someone kinda smart. That is why he seemed so attracted to Meadows and now Kyle (note that Meadows was attracted to Kyle, too). He never intended to make Robert his shadow, or at least he was a candidate by default. Robert seems not to get it and still hopes for the job. Camille, on the other hand, has clearly analyzed the situation. She knows Bernard is taking her husband for a ride. If he wanted him his shadow, he would have made him so already. She has tried for a while to tell him, “Bernard doesn’t value you”. But now, she is acting. So, my guess is: she is trying to push her husband’s agenda without him knowing because she knows he might not approve of a direct confrontation with Bernard. But now that the job is lost for sure, things might change.
That's my theory, too. Robert & Camille have be plotting for years to line Robert up as the future Leader of the Silo--and are now faced with Lucas having the job. And, while the more direct approach would be to kill Bernard and blame it on Lucas--thus putting Robert in the IT Leader position--my gut tells me they will kill Lucas. Camille (and probably Robert) understand that Robert must be trained before he can perform as the Head of IT. Without training, he will have to figure out numerous things. So, my theory is: Robert frames Lucas as a traitor and kills him, and presents Bernard with false evidence of Lucas treason.
The Sims story and his wife is not in the book, so I’m not sure what her motivations are, maybe Sims and his wife is secretly a flame keeper and trying to take over Bernard’s spot? Sims is nothing more than a grunt in the book. So this is interesting. I also suspect a Knox - Sims battle at some point this season. Would be cool to see them team up after the fight…and make Bernard clean! This is not in the book, so no spoiler here! I also don’t remember a door being under the silo in the book, so I’m guessing that once Juliet drains the silo, that’s her way back to 18. There are many differences from the show vs the book at this point, so there still is a lot of guessing from book readers, although the basic story is there. I like your content, looking forward to your Severance season two in January!
Am I the only one who thinks Carla may be a traitor? Unlike Walker, Carla has lived in the mid-level, and not much is known about what she's been doing for the 25 years that Walker was a shut-in down in Mechanical. Carla could have easily been turned by Robert or Bernard in exchange for slightly better treatment; and continued status as the Head of Supply. So, my guess (I have NOT read any of the books) is that Carla's choice to stay behind was only partly to allow Walker, Knox & Shirley to travel faster. But, was also so that she could connect with her Judicial contacts, who would protect her from the angry mob--b/c she's a Judicial Spy. Just guessing.
Can you go “head to head” with someone who has more power than you? I think Bernard is going to make him choose between the Silo and his wife, and being the righteous man that he is, Common-I mean Sims-won’t punk out like Bernard did; he’s going to side with his wife!
“We’re trying to starve them into submission and now they have a farm. So, yeah, not optimum.” 😂
Were you a Radio DJ in a previous life? You most certainly have the voice for it.
Such an intense episode. Loved every second of it. Great video as always!
Always look forward to your recaps!
Thank you for doing what you do

Yeah. In general a smooch is not a good sign.
1st
Ok 😏
