When I was kid, one of local TV stations showed episodes of the George Reeves "Superman" series, followed by the Adam West "Batman" series. I remember watching the 1978 "Superman" on HBO with my brother at our dad's house. This trailer made this 57-year-old woman feel like an excited kid again. So the weird thing about the tag line "look up" that I think may have been overlooked or not actually a reference at all is that it's part of Lex's initial introduction to Superman in Lois and Clark, the Dean Cain show from the 90's - In the pilot, Luthor states that he made the tallest tower in all of Metropolis because he wants everyone there to have to look up in order to see him. Later on in the pilot, Superman confronts Lex and gives him the "I see through your BS" speech... which concludes with Superman telling Luthor that if he ever needs to find him, all he needs to do is "look up" it's a long shot and I'm assuming that it's not a reference, but it's something that came to mind when I first saw it
I was wondering if it also had an L&K nod, given that the trailer had Reeve's crystals, Routh's romantic flight, Cavill's first flight... Of course Lois and Clark was referencing the classic "Look! Up in the sky!" as well.
The trailer looks fantastic! I'm grateful to the use of John Williams music - took me back to my childhood seeing the 1978 Christopher Reeves movie. This trailer looks like the Superman of my childhood. I hope they don't go overboard with CGI. I loved Henry Cavill as Superman; I wish they made his movies more fun like the 1978 version.

One of my favorite things about James Gunn is that he embraces the source material. He'll include weird stuff from the comics and make it work in live action. Its such a breath of fresh air for DC stuff after all the overly serious, edgelord snyderverse that didn't even care to honor the source material.
Snyderverse took inspiration from some darker comic stories. Was it dark and a bit drab? Yes but did it stay true to source material...yes just not the mainline superman source material

This video was a homerun. Thank you for covering the trailer, the easter eggs, and the plethora of knowledge I just obtained. I lost interest in comicbooks for quite some time now, but you just changed all of that. Thank you.
I don’t normally watch these videos that offer up a lot of speculation based on a few scenes in a trailer. But I was so happy about the new Superman teaser (especially the Krypto scenes) that I went looking for someone to explore it a bit deeper. I came across your video by sheer chance and decided to give it a shot. Well done! I appreciate your encyclopedic knowledge of the Superman history and universe and the enthusiasm with which you share it. I’ve not been thrilled about an upcoming superhero release in a long time. Thanks for taking the time to make me even more excited about this movie.
22:07, I doubt the team in this film is the Justice League. I notice that the outfits of 2 of the heroes match Mr. Terrific's outfits, I can only assume we're seeing a variation of "The Terrifics".
Great video - just a couple of corrections: Clark Kent went to work at GBS as a news anchor in the 1970’s. He went back to the Daily Planet in the ‘80’s. Also Lex Luthor started wearing green and purple in the ‘70’s in his science terrorist outfit (the one he wears on the Super Friends cartoon for example). He upgraded to the green and purple armor in the ‘80’s. His bots and thugs wear variations of this armor after Byrne’s reboot and was recast as a business tycoon . Last bit: Superman’s chest shield is an emblem not a logo. A logo is a term used in the print/publishing business that refers to titles /lettering on a magazine or on a product with very specific font (trademark stuff like “ Time” on the magazine or “Action Comics” or “Disney “ etc). Most those points are trivial but pointing them out is a cherished part of fandom lol
First time I saw the trailer I saw Lex with the revolver I thought of Batman's plan to shut down Superman with bullets of Kryptonite. Trailer looks amazing and, Ryan, thanks for showing your emotions in your first watch video. You encourage us all to be OK with getting misty eyed in the cinema.
He played it okay as a young Lex Luther but he wasn't menacing. The other actors Gene Hackman played it cool and Kevin Spacey didn't even have any personality.
They style of the clothes and world are also really interesting... it's not exactly a period piece, but the chunky sweaters, earth tones and patterns all feel very 70's coded.
Wow. No offense, but why are all the movie reviews sharing the same talking points? Henry was freaking awesome as Superman, and the latest iteration feels a little weak. The suit looks, uh, kinda baggy. I could go on, but since I’m a fan, I’ll just say I’ll watch it anyway. Guardians went through an evolution, and this will likely follow suit.
The scene with the "sun eater" with Lois and Superman putting on his boots could just be a red herring. When I first saw it I immediately thought of the "Go get em' Tiger" ending of Spider-Man and this may just be some "I'll see you at work tomorrow Lois" thing where he puts on his boots and flies off to save the day and they bring up the end theme music and credits. It would explain the nonchalant mood being a scene meant to release tension and end on a high but uncertain type of note. Also similar to the Smallville "Bomb downtown" scene in Smallville where he cracks a joke about being late to the wedding and then runs off.
Everything in this trailer was perfect; just seeing Krypto, that kid praying for Superman to help him, the beautiful bright colours and shots and this teaser's epic yet empowering theme gives me hope for DC and James Gunn's vision for the DCU. David Corenswet looks absolutely perfect in both Superman and Clark. I am especially excited for Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor since he looks very accurate to Lex from the comics, and you can see his burning hatred for Superman in his eyes. Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane also looks great, and she and David will surely have amazing chemistry together on screen. I also am hella excited for Guy Gardener's Green Lantern, Mr Terrific, Hawkgirl and Metamorpho's debut. Thank you, James Gunn!
Well let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's just a trailer. Superman deserves to be a billion dollar movie. If B list Aquaman which is pretty average movie BTW can do $1.2 billion then Superman should make $1.5 billion and so far the trailer looks good. It's not an easy job with huge expectations for James Gunn and alot of pressure to revive the brand and rooting for him.
Three things we do not need in a Superman movie (leave it to comics, TV or Animated series). Superman loses his power. Superman doesn’t want to be a hero any more. Superman gets tricked into going into a room, getting exposed to Kryptonite and fighting a man.

Superman 3: No Way Home will have Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill and David Corenswet as Superman. The Batman 3: No Way Home will have Christian Bale, Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson as Batman.
Superman's "Take me home," double entendre use is the same as "Spider-Man Homecoming," when Spidey was finally back in Marvel's hands where he belongs. (Suck it Sony.) In this case, it's Superman finally being back in the hands of a team that knows and actually cares about comics. Snyder never got it, and Christoper Nolan never wanted it. Oh boy is the MCU gonna miss having James Gunn around...
I'm invested in a DC project for the first time in a long time. Superman became a cliché because of the way he was used but had so much potential to be meaningful. This is the Superman project that's gonna probably be what people wanted. Keeping my fingers crossed.

One of the best Superman takes I've ever seen, start to finish, with incredible chemistry from both lead actors and even all their friends and family.
One of my favorite things about James Gunn is that he embraces the source material. He'll include weird stuff from the comics and make it work in live action. Its such a breath of fresh air for DC stuff after all the overly serious, edgelord snyderverse that didn't even care to honor the source material.
Oh you are soooooo wrong it's not even funny.
@Fenris30 He is right, though.
@@Fenris30 nah he's not, Snyder has some good ideas but his adaptations are more in the vein of stuff like Injustice than mainstream comics
Snyderverse took inspiration from some darker comic stories. Was it dark and a bit drab? Yes but did it stay true to source material...yes just not the mainline superman source material
@@TheSlashTraxNetworkGiven how many comics there are, it’s why it’s totally meaningless when someone says “comic accurate.”
And yet, I’m sure the comments are littered with dorks doing just that.
Holy cow, never thought I'd see you guys mention the channel Sideways. Love that channel!
I’m so incredibly hyped to see metamorpho on the big screen. He’s such a cool character that doesn’t get enough love!!
Metamorpho is criminally underused! Just like Firestorm, who could technically be among the most powerful mortals in the DC Universe (comics AND screens)
@ 100%!! Firestorm is sweet as well
Well not that cool cause nobody knows him. Maybe a B or C list character. Never heard of him until you mentioned it.
@@jonfreeman9682coolness = mainstream popularity? Ok I guess. You must love every movie that hits number one. Regardless of quality.
@@jonfreeman9682 hopefully he becomes more mainstream after this movie! I personally think he’s a great character and hopefully more people including yourself will get to see that this summer
Lex Luthor is only human. Superman could end his life with little effort, yet he chooses not to.
When he said he is trapped in the Tv, I expected Ryan to take out an AirPod, look at it confused, then put it back in.
agh, my two favorite channels being shady to each other i literally live for it ❤
Batman in 2016: Do you bleed ?
Superman: There is a trailer in 2024.
He bled in Batman v Superman too
superhero fans gotta be the least funny fandoms ever
@@barnacles1352agreed 😂
This video was a homerun. Thank you for covering the trailer, the easter eggs, and the plethora of knowledge I just obtained. I lost interest in comicbooks for quite some time now, but you just changed all of that. Thank you.
Was literally searching for this waiting for it to be uploaded and boom
I don’t normally watch these videos that offer up a lot of speculation based on a few scenes in a trailer. But I was so happy about the new Superman teaser (especially the Krypto scenes) that I went looking for someone to explore it a bit deeper. I came across your video by sheer chance and decided to give it a shot. Well done! I appreciate your encyclopedic knowledge of the Superman history and universe and the enthusiasm with which you share it. I’ve not been thrilled about an upcoming superhero release in a long time. Thanks for taking the time to make me even more excited about this movie.
🎶 There's a Superman waiting in the sky 🎶
Superman did a Yamcha.
Man this trailer gave me chills
Same
22:07, I doubt the team in this film is the Justice League. I notice that the outfits of 2 of the heroes match Mr. Terrific's outfits, I can only assume we're seeing a variation of "The Terrifics".
It's basically the JLI but a corporate version, they all have a logo that I think is used by Max Lord.
Guy Gardner? AWESOME!!!!
Great video. The tour outro was amazing!
25:59 This is either from a Smallville S11 comic, or the artist modeled this Lex after Rosenbaum
They didn't hire Joss Whedon because of BVS, they hired him because Snyder walked away from the project when his daughter died dude.
I will always love the John Williams score since I played a super concert with a lot of his movies pieces in said concert
Superman saving the little girl is beautiful, amazing scene amazing shot.
Dude I think Ryan like Superman! Im so glad I stayed till the end!
Movie Of The decade
It's only a teaser,but yeah I trust in Gunn
First time I saw the trailer I saw Lex with the revolver I thought of Batman's plan to shut down Superman with bullets of Kryptonite. Trailer looks amazing and, Ryan, thanks for showing your emotions in your first watch video. You encourage us all to be OK with getting misty eyed in the cinema.
It's a bird, it's a plane, its... a decent superman movie?
Ouch....
I still watch all the way through until Doug looks back. The Heavy Spoilers segment was great! Merry Christmas!
Anyone and everyone is better at being Luthor than Jessie Eisenberg
He played it okay as a young Lex Luther but he wasn't menacing. The other actors Gene Hackman played it cool and Kevin Spacey didn't even have any personality.
I really dig Eisenberg as a performer. But yeah it wasn't the part for him. Zuckerberg, though...
Ouch..
Zack the type of director tryna really act he is built different😂
They style of the clothes and world are also really interesting... it's not exactly a period piece, but the chunky sweaters, earth tones and patterns all feel very 70's coded.
The color grading that emphasizes the jewel tones is also really effective at conveying this retro aesthetic
Batman: “Do you bleed?”
Superman: “Yes”
You may be wondering why red diapers? Well that's so bad guys can't see me bleed.
no, but this one bleeds for real just because james gunn said so
21:19 that run of comics and that image is like FF7 for RPG fans. It was definitely a doorway into the media.
We name all the actors except the one playing Mister Terrific?
Edi Gathegi is his name. He also played Darwin in X-Men First Class. Underrated actor and a perfect casting for Mr.Terrific
Your enthusiasm for Superman just made this video that much better.
Great Job I was waiting for your breakdown. I knew you want to take the time and really look into this. I’m very hyped I trust James. HE IS ONE OF US
Never clicked on a video faster in my life!! 🔥🔥🔥
Three things we do not need in a Superman movie (leave it to comics, TV or Animated series).
Superman loses his power.
Superman doesn’t want to be a hero any more.
Superman gets tricked into going into a room, getting exposed to Kryptonite and fighting a man.
2:25 I think a fan writing an article gave it that name and the studio just went with it since they had no name for it. His name is Keith Staskiewicz
ryan , i teared up as well , i saw this on my birthday with my dad , just me and him , it was our tradition when i was growing up, this movie is gonna rock !
18:27…bro i googled and was looking for a picture of beast (don’t ask why it’s a long story) as you said that! I didn’t even know it was the same actor lol. Btw the second you said beast I found it
Screen crush, it been a while since I have seen a video from you, nice to see you again
Superman 3: No Way Home will have Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill and David Corenswet as Superman.
The Batman 3: No Way Home will have Christian Bale, Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson as Batman.
There won't be such
Please noooooo
That’s called Crisis on Infinite Earths…😂
Elseworlds!!! 😂😂😂😂
@Sideways videos are amazing and should 100% be watched!
I like to think Lex is tearing up because even though he hates Superman, deep down he knows that Superman means Hope.
bro prolly crashing out
I’m so disappointed that Doug wasn’t dressed as Krypto for this video
I am a Snyder fan but I hope James Gunn will make a good comic book film just like MCU Phase 1-3 Infinity Saga
Marvel needs tough competition
Ryan, I'm as excited as you are for this. Im a fan of all the stuff you mentioned in your reaction to the trailer. I'm so pumped for this movie.
It's been like 2 years since I last watched ScreenCrush or any other hero movie breakdown channels. This brought back the hype!
I can only see Yamcha
Exactly
Thank you for calling out @Sideways. One of my all-time favorite TH-camrs. I miss his content DEARLY. Best wishes to him.
I'm invested in a DC project for the first time in a long time. Superman became a cliché because of the way he was used but had so much potential to be meaningful. This is the Superman project that's gonna probably be what people wanted. Keeping my fingers crossed.
