  • Check out part 1 here: • A Zoom Chat With Kevin...
    In the second and final instalment, Kevin shares his memories of his post-10cc career, focussing mainly on his work as a ground-breaking maker of pop videos with a roll-call of star clients including The Beatles. There are fascinating 'behind the scenes' tales from the video shoots for George Harrison's 'When We Was Fab', Paul McCartney's 'Come On People', and The Beatles' 'Real Love', along with some hilarious anecdotes about the making of the Frankie Goes to Hollywood 'Two Tribes' promo, the invention of The Gizmotron, and Kevin and Lol Creme's groundbreaking collaboration with Trevor Horn on the 'Cry' single.
    Thanks for watching, we hope you enjoyed the show!
    Thanks to Henry Hemming and the rest of the 'Beatles Zoom' group for helping to make this conversation a reality.

      Completely. I saw another youtuber interview with Graham Gouldman and it was awful. Just the most cliche and obvious questions . These were great

    Hi James this was a brilliant interview with Kevin Godley . 10CC are also one of my all time favourite bands . It's so sad the guys don't get along and can appreciate their great legacy .

    Kevin has a great voice himself in my opinion…his singing on the Godley and Crème Cry is fantastic.

    Kevin is my all time hero. I met him in 2015 and 10cc was for me the best music what is ever made. Love the drumming question about Blackmail. And Queen was 10cc’s support band…amazing..

      Agree, the Queen story was great. Couldn't resist asking Kevin about his drumming, though he seemed a bit puzzled that I had.

    Thoroughly enjoyed watching this 2 part interview with Kevin. 10cc seemed to be always on the radio when I was a nipper in the 70s.
    Great stuff James.

    Terrific session to be part of James - he is very frank and honest with a lot of wonderful anecdotes and asides, as you'd expect from someone with the creative career he has had. Sounds like chances of a 10CC reunion are slim to none, from his final remarks...great stuff, cheers!

      @jamesgriffithsmusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Doug. Yes, I think the chances of a 10cc are extremely unlikely. At least Graham is keeping the flame burning with his own modern version of the band, which I have yet to see!

    Tremendous. Thanks for putting those videos together. There was a documentary from (I’m guessing) 15 years ago where Kevin said he should have done less talking and more strangling. He appears to be a bit more philosophical about things now

    Thanks for this James, another fine video. Lovely to hear Kevin is so down to earth in his stories about the music industry. I remember Donna and Rubber Bullets on release and liked their 50s pastiche feel ( 50s music was the nostalgia kick of the early 70s ). The Dean and I was the one that got me though, it sounded like it was part pop song, part Hollywood musical ( I love old musicals ). I bought Sheet Music and fell in love with these guys. As for image I was at an awkward age, early/mid teens and I liked the fact that they weren't bothered about costumes. I had a poster of them standing outside Strawberry Studios - they looked like my older cousins 😅. I'm so thankful to the art colleges of the 60s, 70s and 80s. They seem to have been places where creative types from middle and working class backgrounds could grow a career subsisting on very little money but lots of support. So many of our most influential pop and rock musicians seem to have come from that background.

    Thanks for sharing these two videos James they were brilliant and what a great honest guy Kevin is. We have family in Stockport and must pass Strawberry Studios twice a month and every time we do all the songs come flooding back. Thanks to all those who made the videos possible and Kevin for being honest and giving up his time for all of us.

    Re Kevin: apart from the relentless creativity, he’s a beautiful singer and a really cool drummer. Listen to Worst Band in the World where his drumming is as laid back cool as Levon Helm or…you name it.

    No way, am I the first commenter again?
    Hey James, thank you for posting this interview.. I'm a big 10cc fan and have seen Graham Gouldman live several times over the last decade, every time it's been a thrill.. he does such a great set, combining the early songs he wrote for other bands, bus stop and for your love etc, with 10cc stuff and solo work.. I'm too young to have seen the original line up. Do you think 10cc like The Beatles have that uncanny knack of not only writing a great hit, but also knocking out something totally disruptive? in the same way McCartney would play off Lennon, McCartney writing a popular hit and Lennon doing a more avant-garde number.. (or as George said.. avant-garde a clue) Gouldman/Stewart playing off Godley/Creme has that same energy. collectively making the band a force to be reckoned with. anyway, I'm rambling again.. thanks again to everyone that made this possible.

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic
      @jamesgriffithsmusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Baz, and thanks for being the first commenter on both videos! I still have not seen Graham's 10cc, must put that right.

    Of course the one song from Consequences could have been on any 10CC album is 5:00 O'clock in the Morning, which is great. And there's a couple others, but overall he's correct it was a bit of a bore.

    The vocals are an important part of 10cc but they could not sing anymore together as they did 50 years ago. Reunion does not make sense.
    They should not have separated they should have taken a creative break after the first 4 records.

      it is an obvious question to talk about the others, but also not something he probably wants to talk about. the gossip, as it were. as fans, we want to know and wish that they could be best mates again, but one's life is long and people can change. it doesn't necessarily mean that one is wrong or right, but their lives diverge.
      though indeed, i would've liked more questions about Godley+Creme!!
      Kevin Godley has been very gracious to us, the fans. he has been my inspiration this past year. KEEP MAKING!
