The Revlon advert is magnificent... and I really dig this mix of "Survivor". I, of course, love the original off of 10 Out Of 10 so hearing it in a new light is fascinating. You know, I interviewed Eric Stewart a few years back and asked him about the 10 Out Of 10 album cover and asked if the album was originally supposed to be called "Notell Hotel" (because events in the song are there on the cover) and he said, 'No'. But I still think at least it SHOULD have been....

Great to see both Graham and Kevin loving this. I like the early 10CC work very much (watching them playing Donna and Rubber Bullets on Dutch tv-show TopPop) and Consequences by Godley and Creme is the most intriguing and funny album I own.
Love this. The Hotlegs track has bits that remind me of “Lovely Rita” and a bass line reminiscent of what’s on “Come Together”. Love 10cc. Interviewed both in Hong Kong after their tour of Japan and still remember saying that I would love to hear them work with McCartney. Close. Jeez, I hear lots of brilliant bibs and bobs here.
You can see a good bit of animosity between Kevin and Graham on the video towards Eric? sadly without Eric involved with this band they would all be nobody's!
What's great about this is that it's the last recording they did as the original lineup and also great that Kevin and Graham joined the chat to go through what they remember from it. Revlon probably passed it up as it seemed too polished for their commercial.

The production on 'Survivor' got me thinking of another band. There were some similarities in the production details. The band was Wigwam, a band from Finland that, in their heyday, were fronted by a British guy called Jim Pembroke. Check out the band's Nuclear Nightclub album and a couple that came out after that. You might see the connection. The producer was Pave Maijanen, whom we lost last year. A true musician who understood production values and gave Wigwam a proper sound. Worth looking into from a similar perspective.
Interesting Godley and Gouldman refer to it as 'twee'. It does remind me somewhat of The Beatles find of a John Lennon part song which was introduced in The Anthology as a new song 'Free As A Bird'.
Sean is 10CC's version of Badfinger's Dan Matovina. The difference is everyone is much more intelligent, civil... and alive. While I enjoyed the hits, these deep dive moments are really enjoyable. I know how it feels to hear your stuff played back decades later. Unfortunately for me, I always think to myself "Why can't I play that well now?"

And then went ahead and did it...and then promptly forgot about it because it was done for sport. I don't know enough about the guys to know if that kind of thing would fit their personalities though. Anyway, just a shot in the dark from a more recent fan of their music.
Does Graham have a grudge against Eric? Regarding a comment he made just "loving the background vocals only" which excluded Erics voice. Since Eric was singing the lead on this tape. Something he mentions about dropping 3 only. Heard some members no longer speak to one another.
We worked out it's all four singing, actually. And that was definitely not a grudgy comment. It's Eric who has the (much) bigger grudge against GG, but Graham to his credit is very diplomatic about it.

there was no negativity towards Eric there, at all. He just loved the vocals! And Eric's voice was in there after all; this was a 4-part harmony arrangement. Our mistake.
