Another fantastic Production Alex , For me personally You Tube has become very influential and allows you to escape the goings on in this negative world we are in right now !.. Welll done 👌👍
Both Harry Metcalfe and Iain Tyrrell have great channels on TH-cam. They compliment each other in that Iain is more technically focused and perhaps a little more practical when it comes to technique in general, while Harry is most focused on the actual driving and how the cars are experienced on the road. However, both are well rooted in the 80's and as peers I would of course say that this is a good thing whether it's about cars from the 70's or more modern cars from the 90's and beyond. The car enthusiasts who were shaped in the 80's have the advantage that the cars at that time were probably the best analog cars and at the same time they form a connection between really old technology and the first digital cars (where everything changed relative to technology and not least performance). I had a Porsche 928 S when it was relatively new as a model and I experienced how Porsche refined the technology (with, among other things, the passively co-steering Weissach rear axle) and in that way could catch up with the Italians' domain when it came to driveability and not least driving pleasure. Status alone was no longer the most important thing and the cars had to perform properly. Porsche was then a champion in this game and shows it clearly to this day. But if we talk about feelings and passion, whether it's about the design or the whole experience with the cars, Porsche is still not quite there yet. Regarding the Rover SD1, I had an uncle who had this car as 3500 Vanden Plas in the late 70's (as far as I remember from 1979) and like Iain I was fascinated by the electric windows as well as the automatic gearbox. This was not common at the time (not in Europe) and the feeling of luxury was therefore palpable. V8 engine was not common at that time either and both the sound and the grunts were nice and something completely different than in my dad's Peugeot 505 :)
Thank you so much for this ,asking Iain all this VERY interesting questions.I love Iains and Harys TH-cam chanels a lot. Both man of their own class.Long and healthy life for all of you!
Amazing how it looks red in the original film clips. I have a blu-ray/1080p of the original film with he correct register and it is orange, and you can indeed make out the number plate. Great video.
All this time I though the Italian Job recreation you did had the original song from the film dubbed in, great voice Iain looking forward to the Tyrrell Metcalfe Clarkson trio!
Both Harry Metcalf and Iain Tyrrell's videos are very welcome. They offer two very different perspectives. As an enthusiast of classic cars, and also as a classic car restorer. And as a film production specialist also. iain's videos pip Harry's for me, as Iain can explain more about the car's engineering and also design. Which is the full package for me.
Watching Iain and Harry Medcalf discuss work on and drive classic cars is so enjoyable after the painful, shouty 20 somethings You Tubers is full of. Adults not kids...class not arse.
subscribed, impressed with the style and flow of questioning. kept me hooked. looking forward to watching more vids. Big fan of Iain and Harry's youtube channels...
Alex - you are an incredible interviewer with a fantastic way of questioning and voice delivery - of course you have got great subjects to interview as well. Love the channel.
And smoked in to boot! The original owner to not know this car was used before delivery is astounding. My father in the 70s was in a MG ad and he said they just drove a MGB from the lot up the road and back for the shoot with no one the wiser...
Iain can tune the carburettors on these old classic cars using a hose pipe. His ear for music is applied in his day job. Oops, should have waited to the end of the video to comment. Iain's video on the Italian Job Miura and his meeting with Lambo designer Marcello Gandini is one of the best of all of TH-cam, sheer class. Iain and Harry are true car guys. Clarkson, May and Hammond are journalists, sort of, and TV personalities; their individual and collective attempts on TH-cam are pants.
I had a thing for rover sd1's my sister's boyfriend had one i was 13 I'd never been driven in anything that quickly before & the noise of the v8 did it for me I thought when I'm old enough to drive im having one of these & I owned 10 of them all V8 some manuals some i changed to manual Traffic light grand prix I'd win every time
Hopefully Harry Metcalfe will have a vinyl roof refitted to his "Jag" XJ12C when its repairs and paint are done, I'm sure he's got a 12-bore Shooter from the farm to sling in the boot too...
That cheeky sod, so he got the car and then proved what it was and then drove it like that for awhile lol I still kinda cant get over the color difference though, like I think someone said they used filters to make it look lobster orange/red with the gold accents to match the junk chasis they dumped in the river at the end of the opening sequence, but its just so offputting to making you think its that car like you wonder why no one made the dots, its because it didnt look like it based on the film, like in my mind its a lobster red miura with gold trim, not orange with silver, and I'm still having trouble adjusting to that thought that it is the car despite it not looking like it is. the weird part being in certain versions of the film, the miura goes from looking like the red one, to the orange one we see here, like I remember when i came across that one and the miura went orange I was like, oh must be a bad copy or they screwed up somewhere and got the film stock wrong.
@@mylifeonvhs I just googled Miura market value. Average price just short of a million dollars. Top notice $2.3 million and I bet it's that exact car. I may be wrong but that is the neighbourhood of those figures.
Funny the comments on the vinyl roof. For me as a Canadian, I always hated them and thought they are soooo "North American" ... horrible. Always. Especially the 1/4 vinyl roof on GM/Chrysler/Ford crap. FWIW I saw a Daimler VP shortly after Iain's Daimler vid aired... same colour too and super rare here in Canada.
My neighbour owed one in the early 70's.He parked it under a tree and birds shat on it.It didn't move for months. What a shame. What really makes me sad is that in the future ICE will be a thing of the past.Electric cars will put alot of people out of work.If I have to put an electric motor in my Aston I'm checking out.
Iain is an absolute gentleman, thanks to Harry Metcalf for talking him into doing a youtube channel.
First Harry, now Iain. Outstanding job sir. 😀👍
I agree, TH-cam has better, more entertaining and more genuine entertainment than any traditional TV channel. I haven’t watched TV in several years.
First class chap, Iain. A great talent and one can clearly appreciate the passion and committment…
Great video----good questions and Ian is more of a Renaissance man then I imagined---Thanks for having him on.
A pleasure & thanks for your comment.

Thanks Lee & yes like you TH-cam has become my favourite TV channel.
Excellent interview! Thanks
Always great to hear Iain talk about what he does!

Great video. I no longer bother much with broadcast television either.
Thanks Cobby & isn’t it great when you find a TH-cam channel to call your very own.
All this time I though the Italian Job recreation you did had the original song from the film dubbed in, great voice Iain looking forward to the Tyrrell Metcalfe Clarkson trio!
Ian love your work and thankyou Harry for introducing yourself to all of us.PS no competition at all. Appreciate you both.
So much fun. Become a huge fan of both channels. Also grew up loving that film. got goosebumps, wen he found the film car.

Great video. Thank you, from Sweden.
Both guys are really good speakers! Cheers from the Finger Lakes!
Great interview, i really enjoy Tyrrell's workshop

Very kind Rick thank you. Yes these guys have great stories to tell.

All that you said was correct harry and Iain are the pinnacle...

I am a bit fan of Iain and his fascinating channel, but even I was surprised by how good he was with the singing! 👍🏻😃
Really good interview! Iain is the best.
GREAT video!!!!
Fabulous!
Thanks
Love it! ❤️

The car was completed the day I was born !
Great story on the Italian Job Miura slightly distorted from reality unfortunately.
Peter Brayham the stunt advisor to The Sweeney told me the Jags were bought out of the Exchange and Mart for £700 & could do two car chases
They must've netted about a million dollars on that deal....
I wanted to know but thought it might be a little rude to ask.
@@mylifeonvhs I just googled Miura market value. Average price just short of a million dollars. Top notice $2.3 million and I bet it's that exact car. I may be wrong but that is the neighbourhood of those figures.
I have a TV but I haven't turned it on for months. You tube has replaced it.

iain should have kept that Miura!

Film.
lol, great dig at a certain self imposed muira expert for not realising what he sold in 2012, that's the difference between a dealer and a broker......
Iain needs to get his hair cut
