- Margo was a healthy, 57 year old when she was diagnosed with bladder cancer. When Margo noticed something was off, she visited her OB/GYN, then a urologist and urologist oncologist. If she hadn't advocated for herself, she would not have gone to MD Anderson and discovered a second diagnosis of plasmacytoid, a rare and often deadly form of bladder cancer.
Margo underwent intense chemotherapy and a radical cystectomy (removal of bladder) to save her life. Margo shares her story of dealing with loss and isolation during treatment, finding humor and the sliver linings in life, and writing a book about her incredible journey.

I had bladder cancer at age 49 with zero KNOWN risk factors. I was not a smoking old man (the typical patient). I had 4 large tumors but luckily no radical cystectomy for me.. BCG treatments only for a few months after my surgery. I immediately gave up diet soda when I was diagnosed since it contains so many bad chemicals.
What are BCG treatments?
Excellent!!! Diet is a major risk for Bladder Cancer - cut down on sugar, sodas, alcohol - Salads should be your main course meal!!!!! Lose weight!!

I had a cystectomy 3 1/2 years ago. Within 6 months, my life returned to 100% normal except for the addition of the Urostomy pouch. I do what I want. I wear what I want. Intimacy is not problem at all. You will, too.
Inspirational interview! I am a breast cancer survivor and can relate to your journey in many ways. i was alone when I was given the DX and alone for most of my treatments. My husband is a disabled veteran and I am the caregiver. I survived only to lose my son 5 years later and now my sister is in the last stages of multiple myleoma. Life is amazing and sometimes heartbreaking, but it's our life. We must face each day with grace and gratitude. Thank you!!!

I had bladder cancer in 2001 the drs had to almost gut me for them to get a clean margin and removed my bladder and female organs and a few other organs. But I am still here, the chemo wiped me out though

you for sharing all these ,many of my questions you answered me without answer you.. 37 yrs old with bladder cancer t1 and in situ for first time and after 2 years came back the in situ my doctor said about cystectomy .. Now we are trying mytomicyn with hyperthermia before surgery.. I hope that will help .. thanks for your power you give to us!!

ive considered the not waking up thing often. my kids are grown and gone. divorced after they got out of college. it was soo painful and scary to go thru alone. im still in treatment to heal from the radiation but some days, it doesnt feel worth it

i have to wear bike shorts or compression pants everyday due to lymphadema from the radiation. i got to keep the hair (on my head lol) but i am DYING to dress like a woman again! i want to wear a dress again! my biggest fears of side effects did come thru but im working thru those now.
I had cancer on my hip and had radiation which destroyed my bladder. I had my bladder removed and had the surgery for an Indiana Pouch. I’m not sure what the medical term is. So my Pouch is what is described except I have a pencil eraser size hole on my right side if stomach. I cath myself and when I’m done I just place a bandage on it. It was the best decision I have ever made.

What we’re you symptoms prior to diagnosis?
it can be shortened during a hysterectomy but i had that in my 40s. im now in m y 50s.
MARGO, i would love to talk to you in some way, email, text, phone, whatever you would want. im currently cancer free at 59 but going thru this completely alone. i also have two autoimmune diseases. we seem to have so much in common and love your joyful personality. one differ ence, im the baby with much older brothers
i had female cancer thanks to my ex giving me hbv. my only surgical option was to remove my vagina, my bladder, my urethra, my colon and my rectum. but they would build the vagina back. i was like,,,,,, why would you need a vagina if you are wearing bags to hold your waste 24/7? i went for the radiation/chemo choise. i was given so much radiation that i can never have it again. i took care of my father, step father and two friends who all died of cancer, chemo is not going to kill me, i will let the cancer do it first.........if it returns. by the time my dr listened to me, my cancer had spread to 4 sets if lymph nodes so i feel like im waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Im so sorry..they can remove the lymph notes...o will think good thots.
I couldn’t continue to watch this story because I didn’t think I could handle the constant interruptions to ask the person “how did you feel?” every 8 sentences.
It’s hard to make an emotional connection with the individuals and feel invested in them when I’m pulled back into the interview to listen to the host ask - yet again - how that patient “felt.”
I want to toss a pillow at the TV: It’s obvious how she felt, we’re humans too. Can we move on?! 😗
it's sad they can create all these things to help after they remove a organ but they can't find the cure for cancer.🤔
