Exactly what we needed also. Clogged gas line. Once we removed the same part as you and pushed the button we could hear and smell the gas so we knew what to replace. Thank you, thank you!!
Thanks for your video! I have an 88 Layton with the same issue. Wish I could share the pic but apparently I can’t. Anyway, would love your expertise… I’m not sure I can figure this out on my own. 😩
THANK YOU SO MUCH I HAVE AN 87' JAYCO AND ITS EXACTLY THE SAME. DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO GET IT GOING BUT WITH YOUR VIDEO I DID EVERYTHING YOU DID AND BINGO! THANKS AGAIN
Yo I just bought the exact same trailer (1987 Kit Road Ranger) and have had zero luck finding info on fixing this old hot water heater. Thanks for the video this is SUPER helpful. I had the same crud in my heating chamber, no idea what that's about. Also u bet our propane lines were full of yellow jackets too haha
I’m trying to find out how to change the thermocoupler in an 85HiLo same unit you have there and your video shows me how to get it apart to clean it and inspect it. Thank you very much
I am so glad I found your video!! I have a 1988 Fleetwood Prowler TT and the hot water heater the pilot will light but soon as I let go of the button to turn it on it goes out. Now I know how to take it apart and clean it! Hopefully that helps! I can’t find a new one that fits my over sized opening.
Glad to hear my video helped you! since your trailer is an '88 I would also highly recommend replacing the anode rod in the water heater as well, it will help prevent tap/hard water from corroding the internals of the water heater.
I have a 74 coachman catalina trailer and need parts for what looks like that same water heater you were cleaning. I have no idea of brand and model. If you could help me, I'd appreciate it.
Its made by "Suburban" company. the model number I'm not certain since I'm not with the RV right now, but most water heaters from that era seem to be similar, and you should be able to check the parts for compatibility on the website that sells them or call a local RV dealer.
Thanks for the video, I’m a first time RV owner and this was a big help. I think I have an identical water heater. Do these have an anode rod to replace? Does the large flame automatically shut off once it reaches temperature?
There is an anode rod which is definately good to replace, and yea it should go out then get re-lit by the pilot flame as needed, but you'll probably want to double check that its functioning properly.
@@ChrisActivity do you know where? I’ve seen ones where the drain valve screws into it and you need a big socket to get it out, but what my drain screws into is completely round and there’s nothing hex on the heater that looks like it unscrews.
Your welcome I'm glad this video helped! I never really looked into getting the furnace working on mine since we rarely used this RV for sleeping in the winter, and older furnaces are pretty inefficient. But likely the propane line for that is also just clogged.
It helps, but my thermostat was replaced now cant get it back on. I have a 92 sandpiper, and camper place doesnt make fittings to put back in. Have custom but thrmsts wont go back in.
I want to remove mine. have lived in my trailer for 4 years and I don't use it would be great just to have the shelf space. Trying to remove it from the cupboard doors because I have as hed in front of the vent outside I. Can't reach the screws on sides no clearance
Hi, im trying to figure out how to use the shower working, and i trying to fill it in a water tank, and i turn it on. I thought it was shower working, but not. I have 1981 rv alpenlite. Can you please help me? The motor, everything's works fine, but i have a hard time with the shower.
Same heater, same amount of corrosion and rust flake and dirt and whatever. The drain plug/anode rod has a wing nut on it that seems frozen. The wings turn but the threaded part is stuck. Bummer.
I would spray it out with probably carburetor or throttle body cleaner, then just whatever brush will fit inside of it, maybe a gun barrel brush would work well.

Must be something about the odor of propane attracting yellow jackets haha. Glad to help though!

Glad the video helped you out, its always nice to have a video to reference when taking things apart.

That air choke you called it is the shutter and it does adjust the flame

Good video content
Peace, can you make a video on troubleshooting water? The shower?

@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 I dont remember where exactly it went as I never replaced it. This was my Grandfathers trailer.
Great video! I’ve got a 1989 Road Ranger, and this helps a ton! Thank you! Can you do one on getting the furnace to work? Blower but no heat ….????
Your welcome I'm glad this video helped! I never really looked into getting the furnace working on mine since we rarely used this RV for sleeping in the winter, and older furnaces are pretty inefficient. But likely the propane line for that is also just clogged.
try cleaning the sail switch. Ihave a cat and her hair gets caught up in it and prevents the switch from opening the gas.
I got a 94 Catalina coachman light with the same outfit u got there but I can't get a flame without holding the primer button
Hello I can't find no video on this same water heater your showing.. would you have any info on the changing the heating element
Thanks for letting me know this but I recently got this camper it's a 88-89 model and I can't get the pilot to light so maybe it's clogged
What brand and model was the rv water hearter
How do you remove the thermostat controller box????
It helps, but my thermostat was replaced now cant get it back on. I have a 92 sandpiper, and camper place doesnt make fittings to put back in. Have custom but thrmsts wont go back in.

I. Can't reach the screws on sides no clearance
Ok but why didn’t you clean and break loose the 2 rusted screws!?
Hi mate I have 92 winnebago with the same unit ar they instant hot water or dose it take some time to heat shower water cheers
Not instant, but it should't take much longer than a couple minutes.

Well, if the other faucets work and hold pressure then it could be the water valve at the shower is bad.
Is that where you light it for the furnace heat as well?
In mine the furnace is inside under the fridge, this is just for hot water.
Same heater, same amount of corrosion and rust flake and dirt and whatever. The drain plug/anode rod has a wing nut on it that seems frozen. The wings turn but the threaded part is stuck. Bummer.
How do I clean the pipe you pulled out?
I would spray it out with probably carburetor or throttle body cleaner, then just whatever brush will fit inside of it, maybe a gun barrel brush would work well.
Whatever
