She had everything except for a recording contract? No. No way. She had nothing, nothing of what she deserved! Believe me. I know her struggle and artistic path.
Seek out Soviero in Act 2, Scene 2 of this or any other production. The complete Madrid performance is available if you know where to look. (There is also that Richard Tucker Gala with Hadley and Nucci.) She is no ordinary Violetta. This one's a fighter. Her "Invitato a qui seguirmi" with Alfredo crackles with panic and anger and jealousy and fear. And so when she pares down her voice on "Alfredo, Alfredo di questo core" she just completely breaks your heart. Her "Ah! ma io ritorno a viver" at 8:32 is of a piece with Soviero's Violetta-this woman goes down fighting.
OMG what an artist! She was so under appreciared I saw her in Butterfly Tosca believe it or not and Romeo Gounod She was amazing in all.
