Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

I have so many great memories of you and Warren 20+ years ago. You guys were always coming by with fresh trout and burbot for me and my roommates at my old Fernie house. Our broke ski bum asses really appreciated that 💗
I really hope this video gets you back in touch with him, what an epic pair you guys were! -Bree
Great story right bree
" and I thought they smelled bad on the outside" Han Solo
Bro clicked just to comment this My GuY
Awesome story my friend.
Instead of calling it Hoth, they should’ve called it Coldth
😂
Right when I read the title. First thought that popped in my head haha
It would be awesome if Warren ran across this video 👍
Must have been some big deer! 🤔
Love the way you start a fire 🔥 😂
Love those intros where you start the first using your fero rod. lol Great story, Greg.
Greg's fire making skills are only surpassed by his telling's of fireside tales of old .
+❤😊
I enjoy hearing about your stories and have a good Thanksgiving Greg 🦃
Thxgiving was last month in canada
@@kelownarealman 👍
I love this guy!
Survival stories/memories that include the wise experiences of and with friends--truly nothing better. To you, Fin, and Warren, my best. This was a wonderful fireside chat.
Growing up my family liked to camp the week of thanksgiving. we always had a nice big fire every night. Of course the on going joke among the kids was the smoke followed the 'old guys' but of course as we got older we changed that to smoke followed beauty. We thought we were so funny😄 thank you for the fireside chat and memories 🥰
Hello Warren! Hello Greg! Another great survival story. It's always better to be prepared, and carry a few supplies. Please introduce Warren if he is available. Love your fireside chats Greg. Stay safe.
I watched a small snippet of your video on Facebook, and I had to come running to TH-cam! subbed and bell rang!
Bro...great story!! Hangin with Warren sounds EPIC!!!
More Fireside chats please Gregg. I think you should do them more often because you have so much to tell.
I grew up on a farm, and I feel that I learned a lot as a young kid because I have had people ask me where I learned a lot of things, and I could usually contribute it to the farm life. But I sure hope that I never have to do that because the deer that I usually get are smaller than me🧐
Yeah I aint that big but I would have a hard time squeezing my 6' 200 pound body inside a NC whitetail but I'm guessing it's been done. The horse scene in revenant seemed more possible but he even had to break the rib cage open.
"hands on is the best teacher" I absolutely agree with you there! Great vid...love these firesides!
Love your stories Greg!
awesome video once again
Can't wait Greg!
👋
Great story!
Really enjoy these chats! To learn from a mentor of Greg... awesome! Keep these videos coming, please!
It’s hilarious every time you gotta move away from the smoke. Love the fireside chats

YAY! Another fireside chat!! 😃 Tell us a story, Uncle Greg! 😁 Next time, let's have the fireside chat next to the Coleman stove! 🤣 Was Hardcore Warren a Ute tribe member, perhaps? 🧐
Hello Greg, enjoy your story time.
That's a cool story and good info to know 👍
Maybe that's why nobody has seen Hardcore Warren for awhile He's walking around with a Deer Carcass on during hunting season 😳
what an interesting story aout Warren and you I have seen documentaries where an individual had to sleep inside a deer carcas I cant emagine having to do that, ut when it came to you two having to survive it was your only option at that time , This shows one should be prepared when going out in the forest, Love your fireside chat's and your knowledge.
Having watched everything you put out friend…I have come to realize Greg, this story of being prepared, LOVEdidn’t teach you a thing😆…. Love ya buddy! Happy Thanksgiving

Isant hard core Warren real name Greg ovens I have a feeling it is ur a pretty adaptive person and ya have. A lot of good ideas that nobody would think of in a tough situation I enjoy the channel thanks for what ya do
My buddies great uncle was one rough sob and he told us stories of sleeping in carcus multiple times
thank you fot the story. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🦃🦃
Love these fireside stories , the biggest thing I looked forward to on hunting trips is to set around at the end of day at the camp fire and tell stories
Just finished your season of Alone, I was rooting for you from day 1, you remind me so much of my father. I felt so sad for your dreams when you had to tap out and I cannot tell you how happy I am to see you have a successful youtube channel. My heart is full.
Great story! I heard it from Luke Skywalker first. He had a tough childhood as well. His father was kinda strict too. He was always telling Luke to join the dark side, what ever that means.
Happy Thanksgiving Greg! I love watching you TH-cam videos. Thanks for sharing so much needed knowledge!
Love the fire side chats
Have a Happy Thanksgiving Greg! I enjoy your fireside chats.
Grew up learning alot about survival, but in later life I never had occasion to really use any of it. A tip like this could really help someone out, on the right conditions.
Better off just carrying extra gas tho! I hope you hear some news of your old friend!
❤❤❤ Happy Thanksgiving!!
I love your channel Greg thank you for sharing your stories. My wife and my son watch your channel in the evenings. We are going to get outdoors as a family now. We are going to try your techniques. I love fishing as well we live in Pennsylvania and have many lakes and rivers. Also we love Finley you have a cool dog. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with all of us 😊
When are we getting an Ovens rocky mountain bushcraft book huh? A lot of bushcraft books are a lot of the same stuff but i feel greg's with his entreprenurial skills would be great for new techniques.
An illustrated book would be great!!!!
Working on it
a real bard of the woods a great tale and lesson thanks mate stay safe and have fun love and respect to you and Finn from the UK
I really like that you are so grounded a lot. It's a great pleasure for me to listen to your stories. Coming from central Europe, back in time we lived from the earth and with the seasons as in my family were hunters ever since.
Love your videos. Hardcore Warren 👍
Love the story.
🦃 Happy Thanksgiving!!! 🦃
Happy Thanksgiving Brutha keep up the great work!!
these campfire stories are wayy better than the re-run compilation videos
Loved da story!!!!
That was the most manly way to light a fire I have ever seen !!!
Can't wait Greg
Thanks Greg
Yes Greg I've heard of sleeping inside an animal. But I would avoid it if l can. Taking your lead being prepared is the best. I really like your fire side chats. Can you do them more often? You need a reflector fory your fire.😮😅
Be my luck a hungry bear or pack of wolves would show up and get a double entre lol.
Having the chat away from the fire, with it in the background is a better view anyway!
Great story Greg
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family
Hardcore Warren " we don't need the truck, let's just wear our deer to town "
🌄🌄 Good Show! ... Bruce
The best survival tips comes from the survivors 😄
sounds like the star wars movie where luke got inside a carcass to survive the extreme cold lol . love your stuff Ovens!!
Good day to all.
cool story
This is what I teach in my survival classes
That's wild for real.
Happy Thanksgivings Greg! I really enjoy your fireside stories. They always told me that smoke followed the handsome one, but now I don’t know if that’s true. Well if it isn’t, at least you’re handy!
I think this counts as a Tall Tale.. A bit difficult to believe 😉
Another stoner tall tale.
you make fire making look easy...
..hey, I like fireside chat..
I definitely remember that trick from Star Wars!
It's crazy to think you guys can just walk into a woods and walk for months and not see anyone here in the UK you walk 5 miles you'll see a house in the most remote places we have or an angry gamekeeper love the fire side videos I was allways told to listen to your elders and Greg if you like it or not I see you as an elder and thank you for sharing your storys if you think about it kids in 1000years time will be able to hear you tell them about what you did through your life pretty crazy have a goodn cheers 👍🫡
What a way to start a fire. Like a champ. Bam it’s on 😮
“I don’t have to explain my art to you, Warren..” - Empire Records
Right on 👍🏽🧔🏽♀️
Was watching your 30 day movie premier, where's it gone?
Carcass sleep - like in The Revenant lol
A friend of a friend. They'd go back country hunting for moose, no vechiles allowed on this crown. 11km they shot a book moose. -40c, had to spend the night. He used the moose hide to sleep in and corpse to stay warm, buddy and him made 4 trips each over next 36 hours packing it out
This is because the body of the deer is actively breaking down creating extreme amounts of heat. The heat comes from the breaking down of the body. Good one Greggy Poo!
Seeing the fire begind you.is better for us and you lol love ya greg
Hey Greg; Happy New Year!🎉 I've been waiting for another great video from you, cz the last one was of you n f on the boat, but you only got to Walk the Plank! Please let me know what's in your upcoming agenda! GBU.,SM.,NZ., ✌❤😁👍🙏🏿
Great story.. 6P's perfect planning prevents piss poor performance ha ha ha .. say hi to Finn :)
Practical experience and common sense are far better than some of the stuff written somewhere.
I read a few survival books and realized that there was a lot of rubbish in them when I tried to put these tips and tricks into practice several times and some of the books were poorly written as well.
That´s my opinion!
Perfect❤
Starting the fire 😂
Great story, are doing any elk or deer hunting this season?
Hi Greg, recently found your channel and I love your videos. Do you have any limits on how long you can stay at places you find in "the bush". Out here n usa, I'm in N California, most federal lands have restrictions like 14 days. Take care 🤙
Rock on!
Greg i've given it some thought and you said on an earlier video that you needed a sign off like fowlers "Fowler out!" Sign off.
After some consideration i think it should be:
"Ovens and out"
There should be a smoked fish and warm scottish Brandy while having a conversation
I knew a guy named Hippie Tom that was like this. I also met Popcorn Sutton, and got drunk with some old legends of moonshining. RIP Sam Watkins.
