That's wasn't fair; after being treated like stupid brutes Skylynx and Darksteel deserved to exact revenge on Starscream.
Sky Lynx only ever got away with his egotistical posturing because, well, he had the skills to back up his claims. He really was a tremendous force to be reckoned with. He really was basically a robot dragon in every sense, right down to the attitude.
Skylynx kicked a COMBINER's butt on a regular basis, of course he was worth the hype.
And if you have seen Overly Sarcastic Productions video on Dragons, he was also POWER, something all dragons of various names and shapes share in common.

Sky Lynx is my all time favourite Transformer. Probably because he is also the all time weirdest Transformer. This guy is somehow a beast former, a triple changer, a combiner and now thanks to his new War for Cybertron toy, a city former all at once. And yet nobody in universe bats an optic. Just treating him like a regular Cybertronian. Speaking of which, where even are Sky Lynx's optics? Are they supposed to be the windows? Then how can people look through them when in his cockpit? Has Sky Lynx secretly been blind this whole time? I don't know. Nobody knows. Because nobody will acknowledge how insane Sky Lynx's design is.... And I love that fact!

Skylinx's design was a major element for the designs of Yu-gi-oh's Mecha Phantom Beasts cards. Juculusan and Dracossack are the closest to Skylinx's design.

Yugioh has a lot of love for mecha. Just look up GaoGaiGar a series made by guys that make transformers then look up the roid monsters.
Concoruda has a strong running for "Most Sky Lynx Yu-Gi-Oh card".
Considering how meta defining Dracossack was back in the day and still is in some level 7 based decks I’m sure Skylynx’s ego would be satisfied.

If we exclude the japanese seasons, Predaking is considerered the strongest G1 combiner and Sky Lynx beat his ass on regular basis, so yes, he is better than everyone else.
I think even WITH JP G1
The only combiner, which is to say excluding things like Victory Saber or more obscure BIG POWERED Dai Atlas, who is clearly stronger than Predaking (Raiden is like 50/50 with Predaking, King Poseidon is a sandbag, Road Caesar isn't all too strong, Dino King and Landcross are like worse than Devastator.), is Liokaiser. And perhaps not even Liokaiser with his might to beat Star Saber and God Ginrai over their afterburners can stand up to Sky Lynx. Simply because Sky Lynx whoops Predaking like he is a JOKE.
Take that however you want.
But this might mean that Sky Lynx can maybe even go toe to toe with Victory Saber, arguably one of the strongest bots in the entire franchise.
Not at all
back in the day he was like one of a kind for having his robot mode look like an animal instead of a humanoid robot mode who speaks normally like a humanoid Transformer instead of acting like an animal like Ravage and Laserbeak in the G1 cartoon, not to mention he is made out of two separate bodies sharing a single consciousness.
And it’s for this reason that I never saw him as someone who fits in the franchise.
Technically Ravage spoke in the first episode but even if he had the intelligence of a normal bot, he had the mindset of an animal. Sky Lynx, on the other hand, was insulted for being lumped in as a "Primitive" due to his fat greater intellect and wit than those ruffian Dinobots or loathesome Predacons. He has a degree! He went to college!
I loved his overbearing ego, even if it got a little annoying. It's refreshing seeing an Autobot being so vain and conceited, as those are traits that are normally given to Decepticons. Plus he's got one of the most unique and creative forms, such a strange thing that it works.
Sunstreaker & Tracks come to mind when it comes to being vain as well.

I can see the argument, but (at least in G1), he got lumped together with the dinobots for having similiar DNA, so the odds are likely that he has reaptilian-ish traits.

Sky Lynx has the most interesting design to me and I wish that he was in more media
the writers didn't know what to do with the arrogant bolt-brain, since his attitude pissed them off other characters, so the writers just dropped him.
The problem with Sky Lynx is that due to his clearly superior power it's very hard to make things challenging to the good guys with him on their side.

Part of that big ego is his self-image as heroic, which is fortunate for the Autobots.
@@originaluddite True that. You can be egotistical as either a hero or villain, and thankfully Skylynx falls on the right side of the fence when it comes to helping the Autobots. On top of that, he may be egotistical and talks a big game, but most of the time his skills, strategies, and sheer strength and versatility lives up to his own self-hype and pride, so he's not exactly wrong. The Autobots learn to tolerate it, so long as Skylynx keeps up the good work, while Skylynx believes "If you did it, it's not bragging."
The guy is a big, bird, dragon, thing, with an ego the size of 2 cities.

Yes he is. I recommend fans to get one while he still can be found at his original market prize, in a few years he will be one of those ridiculous expensive figures.
I remember when I was a little kid getting into Transformers for the first time, I would watch whatever G1 episodes i could find that had been uploaded to TH-cam. As soon as i watched The Return of Optimus Prime, Sky Lynx stuck with me. Even though i barely knew anything about him, his design was so unique and unlike anything I expected a Transformer to look like. He truly is Magnificent
Rough, tough, smart, sassy, laud, proud, loyal and most importantly: someone you try so hard to forget, but CAN'T help but wish was around more often then they are, that's ME all over. Skylinx is officially my Cybertronian Avatar.

That bit at the end was very apropos. Sky Lynx is definitely the Vegeta of the Autobots. Clearly NOT the best, yet infinitely convinced that he is.
Sky Lynx is definitely one of the stronger Autobots. If he spent lest time boasting he could definitely be as powerful as Optimus Prime.
I remember reading that Aaron Archer really hated Sky Lynx for some reason, hence why it took so long to get another Sky Lynx homage.
For daily "fact that could probably have made it into the video": Sky Lynx is the reason that G1 Omega Supreme reissues became possible. Omega was also a Toybox design, and both were thought to be off-limits... but someone went poking around in the old paperwork and discovered that Tomy (the other half of Takara-Tomy) actually owned a patent for a "shuttle dinosaur." It turned out that Toybox had actually commissioned Sky Lynx's design from Tomy rather than designing it themselves. And they'd done the same thing with Omega Supreme--hence, Takara-Tomy owns that mold.
G1 Sky Lynx was the first combiner that checked ALL the combiner boxes
Two separate pieces that could transform into separate vehicles, and could be combined into a single robot and a single vehicle.
I have Combiner Wars one! But, I want the Earthrise one! He's like a trash talking Omega Supreme! He's definitely in my top 10 favorite Autobots!
I have the Combiner Wars one and the only other combiners I have from that line are the Rust Renegades. When he takes over torso duty from Pyra Magna I'm never sure what to call the new combiner... Victoria Sky?
But also, at his size, I find he works really well as a steed for a bot the size of Thrilling Thirty Arcee and they look very gallant together riding into battle.
I have the Earthrise Skylynx and he’s a really cool figure. Definitely worth getting if you’re able to.

The new one does look amazing. KInda wish the crawler mode had been given a more realistic look like the huge existing vehicles and with more of that nice grey colour the toy has in patches.
My name of Victoria Sky sounds too much like a fashion model. Victorious Sky is a small change but much better - you can imagine it on a World War II style poster celebrating our plucky fighter pilots. And Victory Lynx sounds most Transformerish and references the feline face of the combiner.
I just got the Earthrise figure of him yesterday and it's the coolest thing I've ever seen. Also, he doesn't think he's better than everybody else. He knows he's better than everybody else. Sure, he was kinda stuck up and arrogant, but at least he was able to back up his claims about himself
If you can take on a combiner as strong as Predaking multiple times alone and win. I think having an ego to out do Starscream is acceptable.

The same triple change mistake in the comics also happened in the g1 season 3 episode "Surprise Party" when Ultra Magus took Sky Lynx to the astroid that Wheelie and Daniel went looking for data regarding Magus birthday. After landing on the astroid you saw Sky Lynx transform but into his Lynx half only. As a child I found that weird.
I was sad to see skylynx die in war for cybertron series.
I wish that the Transformers toy designers would’ve made Deluxe Combiner figures of Thundercracker, Slugslinger, & Cosmos so we could’ve gotten the Combined mode from the comic
I really wish Sky Lynx didn't have to die in Earthrise. I was so happy to see him and was hoping he'd escape the Dead Universe to help the Autobots in the future of the series.
They killed him because with a powerhouse like him on their side the Autobots would have an overwhelming advantage over the Decepticons.
@@Hektols that's only in theory. We haven't seen Devastator and we had a glimpse of Astrotrain. We know the Decepticons have a couple big heavy hitters still.

I'm so glad I found this, I have been looking for any information about that one transformer that I played with at one the banks in Montreal for the last 20 or so years, the original Sky Linx toy was that transformer I played with. (I'm 25 at the time of when this comment was posted, so I was around 5 or 6 at that time.)
Ah, Combiner Wars Skylynx. Never saw it in stores, online resale had it starting at $80, and went to the 2016 Botcon and there were THREE in the dealer room. I managed to score one for $35 there and shortly afterward had three guys trying to buy it off of me because they couldn't get one there.

One of my favourite Autobots., mostly because of the Lynx form.
You gotta admit, while he is Egotistic and Prideful, he can back up his words, and he's no slouch either. He's big, he's formidable and most of all, reliable. Yes he is conceited and borderline narcissist but he was never a danger to his allies.
He was a 3-dimensional character, that's what made Sky Lynx very memorable.
"Ask yourself; what would Sky-Lynx do, and you won't go far wrong". I still remember those immortal lines, more than 35 years later.
My ONLY quirk about Sky Lynx is that despite the fact that he is SO different looking from almost every other Transformer, no one questions why and no explanation is given. He's just there looking like some space Griffin/dragon and everyone is just fine with that. I kinda want to know why.
For all his bluster, he might just be modest. After all who else could stand solo against Predaking with no hands! And he’s not nearly as bad as Sunstreaker or Tracks!
Plus he’s at least as verbose as Perceptor.

G1 SL (and Omega Supreme) was officially released in Japan via the Encore line back in 2008 when Takara and Tomy merged. Together with Encore Omega Supreme, it was discovered that Toybox hired some Tomy engineers to design him and Omega Supreme. This makes him share lineage with the Zoids, SL that is.

I have always loved Sky Lynx. One big reason was the he just kicked the Predaking's a** with relatively little effort, which speaks to just how powerful this Transformer is. He is arrogant but had reason to be!

My Favorite Transformer Gets his basics YEESSSSSSSSS
So this is my first comment on this channel. 1st This is the best channel for info on Transformer lore. 2nd Skylynx was my first Ttoy, and my favorite. But I only knew what his deal was after the Netflix series. So about 38 years of wondering what his character was like. Keep up the g9od work. We love this stuff.

I really liked Sky Lynx in the G1 cartoon, both for his boastful personality and unique design. "Earthrise" also took a pretty creative route with their depiction of the character, while staying true to his original counterpart.
Speaking of his design, I think the bird part was based on several prehistoric, toothy birds like Ichthyornis.

I hope/think Alpha Trion should be the Spoiler Pack character for Kingdom, maybe a retool of SS86 Scourge.
That makes a lot of sense to me considering they look slightly similar.

Sky Lynx was always one of my favorite characters in the G1 cartoon. Something about the combination of his design and his voice just meshed well and I liked his personality. I never had his toy, sadly, so the Earthrise figure filled a hole in my collection that's been there since 1986.
If you can take down Predaking, you're entitled to some bragging.
Same with if you took down Megatron or a combiner solo.
