I know this is a bit late, but don’t you think in the Twisted Metal tv show it should’ve be said that it was Calypso’s contest and granting of wishes that destroyed the world? That way they can still stay true to the games without characters immediately joining the contest.
@@insectostrich4407 maybe in season 2 this will be explained and maybe the winner of that contest will be the final boss their. Minion, Charles Caine as dark tooth, ash as darkside with black in manslaughter or prime evil. Someone can be the final fight to get the wish amd the final boss was the winner of privies contest that end the world.
@@yurabuchkov8138 Still seems like an odd choice to not really show any supernatural elements and just say the apocalypse began because a y2k event. I’m not saying the show’s terrible, I’m just saying they’re missing a major chunk of the game’s identity.
I like to think that when Calypso was a race car driver, he raced Charlie Kane. Maybe that is why he respects him so much, and he always invites at least one member of the Kane family every tournament because of their driving skills.
For Small Brawl, it's worth mentioning that the intro and manual say that Warthog was bullied by Calypso and wants revenge, meanwhile it doesn't say if Outlaw was bullied or not. So it could be argued that Warthog's motivation is more selfish than Outlaw, and I'd say that's a more sound argument than "Warthog's stupider"
30:20 oh trust me you’re more than right. I grew up in a neighborhood where people would throw out-door house parties down the road at 10p.m., sometimes lasting past midnight, blasting mariachi music. Not kidding.
After seeing Dollface's story in Black I would loved to have seen her act as a twisted anti-hero/vigilante going after some of the more evil characters.
@cleothehermetichermeticist8391 you could even do a connected story of having them hunt some of the other characters like Needles, Billy and Cage/Sweetooth, Junkyard Dog, and Warthog.
This moral alignment list reminded me how geuinely funny some of the Twisted Metal characters' backstories are in context, even in some of the games that are generally considered on the lower end of the quality spectrum.
You could argue that shooting the cat with the water pistol is more chaotic due to intentionally harming an innocent to harm the actual target. Outlaw just missed while Crimson Red shot the cat on purpose.
Maaaybe im stretching things here, but I feel like for Black: Yellowjacket would also fit in chaotic good? Just a kid wanting everything everything to be okay again, just going about it.... chaoticially, to say the least.
Preacher in Black in could've sufficed as Lawful evil better than Grim. Preacher commited awful crimes while under the impression he was doing the work of the lord. Granted that also sounds chaotic since he was unaware of his crimes until the very end.
Was kinda hoping he'd cover the TV show. Especially after calling Black's Agent Stone the most morally good character in the series. Because hoo boy did that not carry over!
There’s a theory I came up with the Joneses being the fact that Mitch resembles Sweet Tooth as a boy and it can be implied that, either of his parents are related to Charlie Kane
Ooc, have you seen the cut endings of Twisted Metal PS3? Apparently the three playable characters were supposed tp have 3 endings, but they were cut. David Jaffe shared the endings on his channel.
And I thought something like Legacy of Kain/Blood Omen would be tough. This whole thing makes LoK/BO look much easier by comparison. Honestly this was probably the best one could do with Twisted Metal. And it actually works pretty well. The most recent game just happens to have fewest characters to work with and required rule breaking.
"for once Sweet Tooth is not chaotic evil" says the guy who placed Needles in Neutral Evil twice in prior games... At least ya know I'm paying attention to your video 😅👍🏼
Hey TBP, I love your videos, more when ya talk about Twisted Metal. I would love to see a video of every car of the franchise from worst to best, if I could make a suggestion. I know this type of video can be a lot of work, but it would be awesome! Thanks a lot for your incredible work!
Only thing that really bothered me is getting revenge on somebody is not considered lawful. If you're going on the d&d scale then you misread something
I'd have said that Outlaw in Head on (or at least Carl) was chaotic good. After trying to resolve things the lawful way had gone poorly Carl was more than happy to just put a bullet in Calypso's head to bring an end to Twisted Metal.
Okay...so I got an issue with this chart from the simple fact that Twisted Metal is literally an illegal tournament where the entire purpose is to kill the other drivers to win a prize. There should not be any characters that are considered lawful, considering that participating in the tournament is inherently unlawful.
I thought lawful evil would he calypso Finally reached game 3.. I thought bosses were playable, so I assumed Calypso was playable in games 1 and 2. My bad.
My custom OC for a Twisted Metal Game is probably Chaotic Good as her backstory would be she was murdered violently but came back to life as a violent vigilante revenant and killed her murderers due to a wish her brother made after winning a Twisted Metal contest that being he'd wish she could be brought back to life so she could see her attackers be brought to justice and of course in typical Calypso fashion wish granted but in a messed up way as she was resurrected as a undead creature with arguably no soul or a somewhat corrupted soul and she was no longer the person she once was who violently and brutally killed her killers and when her brother found out he to his horror killed himself and before he died and his soul went straight to Calypso he told her what happened so now she enters the contest to get revenge on Calypso for in a since ruining her rest and ruining her brother's life with her wish being that Calypso returns to hell permanently as retribution for all the lives he ruined. But given how her own brother's wish was twisted and corrupted, she pretty much knows that Calypso would twist her wish to screw her over so she won't throughout the contest reveal to Calypso that she wants revenge on him as her wish she'd probably if Calypso talks to her in between-rounds say stuff to the equivalent of "The man I want vengeance on for ruining my peaceful rest in the afterlife, my brother's life and other innocent lives I won't reveal his name until we meet because I want him to be surprised when he learns that I know of his crimes and that he will pay for every innocent life he ruined." and when she gets to his office after winning she states for her wish "My wish Calypso is for you and me to be sent back to hell for eternity!" aka she kind of suspects that if she just states "My wish Calypso is for you to be sent back to hell for eternity!" he would twist her wish to where it's only her being sent to hell and not him, so she clearly states that her wish is both him and her go to hell permanently that way she can be sure that he won't get off scot free.
I like to think in Small Brawl, true neutral would be Piecemeal and chaotic neutral is Darkside. Piecemeal has no motivation, and Jimmy Ash is a kid pretending to be Satan (at least on the surface) according to concept art that didn't make it into the game. But in my headcannon, I think Jimmy Ash has something to do with Billy Calypso granting wishes. But if the concept art is taken at face value, his motivation isn't known but he is portrayed as a kid Satan that to me says we don't know what he's planning.
Great vid I really hope we do get a new twisted metal game for PS5 before the end of the decade this series needs to keep going and who knows what VR might do to the series. I thought Yellowjacket in black seemed like lawful chaos cause he wants to bring his dad back and he has no idea sweet tooth is his brother and Calipso grants his wish and finds someone to takeover the contest in the future so that ending works out for everyone.
I'd like to see your review of a game called "Rogue Trip" for PS1. During that era, many companies tried to piggy back off of the success of twisted metal and the car battle genre, and among all those games, "Rogue Trip" was a hidden gem , in my opinion. It never got the attention and popularity it deserved, and maybe it's just my nostalgia talking, but "Rogue Trip" is so underrated. I'm new to the channel, so if You've already reviewed it, I apologize, but if you haven't, I think you'd enjoy it and give it the attention and respect it deserves. 😊
Flower Power reminds me of Poison Ivy but wothout superpowers, who is is more neutral/evil. But Flower Power haven't unalived children (as far as we know), but as she clearly wouldn't care if children would be unalived, makes her a bit more good than Poison Ivy. As some versions of Poison Ivy did unalive kids, even main universe version (depending a bit on continuity, because reboots and time alterations). But same time Flower Power can be seen as more good than other chaotic ones, but it doesn't make her actual good.
A lot of the "I just want x"...personal wishes boil down to some form of Neutrality. They're mostly interchangeable, though you can infer their personality and leanings from their presentation in those cases. For example: TM2 Axel's intentions are entirely selfish on paper, but done in the cause of justice as he's righting a great wrong committed against him. Unlike so many similar character stories in TM, he doesn't actually take revenge on his tormentor but takes the moral high road and walks away as a free man. Those are all very laudable traits and actions, so to me that makes him some form of Good (leaning Lawful). Roadkill by comparison, is kind of all over the place and not so easy to pin down. Marcus Kane is shown to be a man who wants to quiet his inner demons and escape the nightmare world that he created for himself. For the brief moments of lucidity and peace he gets, Marcus largely comes across as a decent person. No saint, but far from someone prone to bloodlust and a callous disregard for human life. On the other hand...canonically, he is supposed to be Sweet Tooth, or more accurately, Sweet Tooth is who Marcus could be if he were to give in to his deepest, darkest desires. The duality of man within his own mind is the broader point of the character (at least when he isn't being a 4th wall wrecking ball).
I'll disagree that crimson fury is chaotic good, he's putting too many lives at risk just to prove that aliens exist I'd argue that he would be chaotic neutral at best.
Funny how the 4 main characters (Calypso, Sweet Tooth, Grimm and Warthog) are evil at least in 1 TM title, Warthog is mostly good, but in Black he is the most evil of the entire franchise, yeah, i know he's not present in the 2012 title, only his vehicle in Black, but still, 7 games out of 8
You gave Goggles a better score than TM2 grim? A pathological exterminator is better than an addict? They would both lead to our extinction, but Grim doesn't want to eat everyone's soul for the sake of it.
Technically, Small Brawl's take on Mr. Slam was mentioned in the vid. TM2 Mr. Slam / Simon was selfish, but not malicious in his wish to build the tallest skyscraper in the world, until his act of blasphemy sent him crashing straight to solid ground. Thus, Simon was leaning on the Neutral Selfish side. Head-on Mr. Slam / Simon as a restless ghost in limbo was slightly nicer than before, though he still had to oversee the completion of the spacescraper.
Not related to the TM series, but arguably the most True Neutral-leaning people in fiction are the named Witchers in The Witcher media, given the strict code they must uphold in the shaky world, even when Geralt of Rivia served as the bodyguard of King Foltest for undoing the curse of the latter's daughter. Neutral... The innocents not related to the contestants had nothing to do with contests, unless A) it's the law enforcement to heed the badge or B) a misanthrope runs amuck and treats people like lambs Some neutral characters compete either for the prize pool or to act as stewards of Mother Nature, or to gain benefits from the other sides, or to want normalcy / working balance back.
Mr. Grimm is very Lawful Neutral in TM1. As much as it sucks to experience it, Death is not inherently evil force in the world; quite the opposite it's very necessary and natural. If Grimm is just enforcing the natural order of things, that falls under True Neutral by D&D logic. (entirely amoral, natural forces are NOT considered Lawful in D&D's alignment, but neutral) I'd argue Sweet Tooth could be Chaotic Neutral specifically in Twisted Metal 1's published ending because he's literally just a crazy dude looking for his imaginary friend. In the Lost Ending, he's indisputably evil and keeping in line with the Sweet Tooth we see throughout the rest of the TM series. Minion is most definitely Evil by nature even if he's doing the world a service by casting Calypso into the fires of Hell. As a demon from Hell, he's acting entirely within his own best interests and nobody else's and is shown to gladly revel in the sheer destruction he causes basically everywhere else he shows up. Only in TM3 where his wish is literally reduced to a pun, is it suggested he just wants to go home and that is oddly, subtly Good (or at least Neutral) behavior. That said, his persona and M.O. definitely paints him as anything other than a good guy.
Nah, it's a personal running joke of mine that every time I do an ad read I refer to myself by a different name. It stems from a point in time where multiple people thought my name was Felix for some reason.
It's interesting to see how you place everyone, especially considering all the characters have to have some evil in their hearts, given that they all joined a contest that requires you to kill to win.
I enjoyed the video I just think you didn't need to do the work to fit them into each box like you said. I know it would be boring if it's all versions of evil but I do think your sticking to the 9 grid square too closely

How about make a moral alignment of characters from twisted metal show. It will be fun.

Throwing water at a cat: caotic
Using a missile: lawful
Yeah, TBP got it wrong there
to them the ends justify the means, because they're F***ING KIDS!

Naw if Mortimer in Small Brawl is NE for irradiating a frog Yellowjacket is definitely at best Chaotic for Frankenstein-ing his dad
25:52, "Now for *once* Sweet Tooth is not chaotic evil, but rather neutral evil", according to you, he was neutral evil in TM2 as well

did Calyspo just randomly turn hid daughter to a murderer for a game

30:48 I thought the thing with that ending was that the dump itself had radioactive material. Or maybe I'm confusing it with Blaster Master.
Oh god.. He has to decide things on TM3.. Ok, he made it super-quick. Thank you.
Cool video concept ^_^. Surprised no one's covered it before now.
Warthog's wish in Head-On results in him basically becoming The Punisher, who imo is the textbook definition of Chaotic Good
Only thing that really bothered me is getting revenge on somebody is not considered lawful. If you're going on the d&d scale then you misread something
Nice takes on all the characters. When you're blowing stuff up with a missile it's easy to lise track of the moral spectrums across the games.
Nice. But I think it would be ok to have more than one entry to each Alignment. Especially if it is your opinion.
If I had a nickel for every time a real musician was a shoe-in for true neutral in a video game...
For TM1 I would have put the guy that wanted to recording of aliens to hide from the public as lawful evil
Now we need an allingment chart for the twisted metal show too
I'd have said that Outlaw in Head on (or at least Carl) was chaotic good. After trying to resolve things the lawful way had gone poorly Carl was more than happy to just put a bullet in Calypso's head to bring an end to Twisted Metal.

If we are talking about DnD similarities, Flower Power seems a lot like a Shadow Druid. Which apparently are True Neutral despite their actions.
Yay I love moral alignment charts!
I thought lawful evil would he calypso
Finally reached game 3.. I thought bosses were playable, so I assumed Calypso was playable in games 1 and 2. My bad.
Only in 4
This is exactly what I wanted.
I have to say that the intro is just god
if i won a twisted metal contest id wish from more wishes
Probably would be granted by just… granting entry to the next tournament

I would have said the create a car was the true neutral of TM4.
You only get to create vehicles, but not characters, creating characters as well would have been awesome AF, but technical limitations i guess
I wish you had Brimstone on here for TM Black
In which alignment would you say Grasshopper in Head-On would fit?
I love this new series Xd

Is the drum roll you used from the rugrats theme song?
Mmmm I wonder where MR.slam fits in TM2
I'd like to see your review of a game called "Rogue Trip" for PS1. Funny how a cop character always got Lawful good, up until Head-on; I don't know if FBI agents still classify as cops
Well FBI is part of the law so...
Holy shit, never knew pizza boy from 4 is from Philly!
I love your work but have you ever considered the timeloop possibility that axl is dollface?
Can you do the moral alignment vid on the Arkham series?

wonder if this type of video format will catch on, like it when people delve into the mind s of fictional characters.
I’m here too
A lot of the "I just want x"...personal wishes boil down to some form of Neutrality.

The duality of man within his own mind is the broader point of the character (at least when he isn't being a 4th wall wrecking ball).
You should have done the newer 5x5 alignment system
Not enough characters per game, specially TM (2012), that could be for another video in which he picks 25 characters from the whole franchise
5x5 alignment?
I'll disagree that crimson fury is chaotic good, he's putting too many lives at risk just to prove that aliens exist I'd argue that he would be chaotic neutral at best.
How did I miss this?
TH-cam hates me and often doesn't show my videos in people's subscription feeds.
@TBP If it's any consolation, we still love you!
TIL the word Hayseed
I am really enjoying the series. Please consider a New Vegas episode.

In twisted metal black I actually like Sweet Tooth, even if he was portrayed as a serial killer. Warthog in Black was just an irredeemable scumbag.
Why didnt yiu talk about mister slam?
Technically, Small Brawl's take on Mr. Slam was mentioned in the vid.
TM2 Mr. Slam / Simon was selfish, but not malicious in his wish to build the tallest skyscraper in the world, until his act of blasphemy sent him crashing straight to solid ground. Thus, Simon was leaning on the Neutral Selfish side.
Head-on Mr. Slam / Simon as a restless ghost in limbo was slightly nicer than before, though he still had to oversee the completion of the spacescraper.
No body wants to die is an interesting and highly inaccurate statement

Some neutral characters compete either for the prize pool or to act as stewards of Mother Nature, or to gain benefits from the other sides, or to want normalcy / working balance back.
A new better twisted metal should be made with manslaughter coming back to finish off calypso for good with each driver having two endings.
Mr. Grimm is very Lawful Neutral in TM1. As much as it sucks to experience it, Death is not inherently evil force in the world; quite the opposite it's very necessary and natural. Im an axel main
It's interesting to see how you place everyone, especially considering all the characters have to have some evil in their hearts, given that they all joined a contest that requires you to kill to win.
Leaving Small Brawl aside, TM fits in the KTW genre
I enjoyed the video I just think you didn't need to do the work to fit them into each box like you said. I know it would be boring if it's all versions of evil but I do think your sticking to the 9 grid square too closely
Oh sweet first one here 😎
Combat is off and on endings though very stupid some good mostly bad last game doll face sweet tooth terrible outcome.
