@@TheDailyWooYeah, you passed several of the platforms along the side of the Seward Highway as you drove south from Anchorage along Turnagain Arm from which they mount the cannons.
Alaska resident for 15 years here. I second the thought of keeping heavy blanket, water and food in the car "just in case". Peanut butter is cheap and high in calories. Watch out for the temps we are experiencing this week. The snow will melt, then refreeze overnight leading to AM "black ice" on the roads. Whales have gone south for the season, but bears and moose can be seen at the Alaska Conservation Center just outside of Girdwood/Whittier. Cheers
Just a FYI. If you can hear your tires you are not on ice. When you don’t hear your tires that’s ice. Silence is deadly when driving in winter conditions.
If you can find a large open parking lot, practice making donuts/tight circles with the car, so you get used to the feel of slipping around and how to get out of it. On ice, slow down by taking your foot off the gas as much as possible since braking like normal is a very bad idea. Leave LOTS of room between cars. Only use brakes very sparingly. If no ABS, very gently tap the brakes if needed. Curves/Turns: Do all the slowing down you can BEFORE you get to a turn or curve, then gently apply a little gas as you're moving through the turn/curve to avoid/minimize slipping. Best wishes Adam!

Sunrise doesn’t mean you see sun up north. In Ohio we went weeks without sun it’s why we all moved south. Depression sets in. Ice is bad. Snow is good. A heavy vehicle is great snow tires. Nothing to take lightly. Be safe
Reading some other comments. I remember when we lived in NY. Upstate my folks always had blankets in the car during the winter. And snacks and water are always a must. Even in AZ where I live now. And the Whales head for San Diego and Hawaii this time of year. 🐋🐳🦅🐺🌺🌨🌨🌨🌨🌬
I lived in Fairbanks 4 years. Tiny town. Best advice for souvenirs...go to the grocery store such as Fred Meyer, they sell the same stuff as the tourist shops but far cheaper. It's often overcast in winter in Fairbanks, so it's not the very best time to see the northern lights. People often go up to Chena Hot Springs. I'm sure you will get plenty of chances to see Moose at the very least. They are everywhere. The things you call Buffalo are actually Musk Ox. Their fur is softer than cashmere.
Moose hang out on the roads near the airport. Drive the back roads towards earthquake park and near Lake Hood right next to the airport. I see moose often in those areas.
I have lived in Ohio all my life. I always dread the snow & ice. Love going to Florida in the winter time. Don’t know why anyone would choose to leave beautiful Florida & go to Somewhere cold with snow & ice. Lol Stay safe & Warm Adam
Because heat and humidity suck. Because not everyone loves sweating. Because winter (real winter, not 75) rules. Because anything over 70 sucks. Because not everyone wants to live in the armpit of America.
Winter snow driving is the worst. Winters here in Ohio/Indiana areas can be terrible. You learn to deal with it but it still sucks lol. We have been lucky the last few years but they are usually cold, snowy, icy, depressing, dark. That's why we always try to make a trip to wdw in the middle of winter to enjoy some sunny warm weather. Great videos Woo. Enjoy yourself and safe travels.
@kdog4703 I grew up very close to there but on the Ohio side. We frequented Richmond quite a bit, mostly just the mall/shopping areas. Now live a few hours north. Still on the state border and still on Ohio side.
Adam love you video's be very careful driving even if it says 35 degrees flash freeze can happen quickly before you know it you can be sliding out of control you are doing right thing driving slow
I’m loving Alaska, and every time I see those snowy peaks, I can’t help think of the great Bob Ross. A Floridian who loved Alaska. Wasn’t he posted at Fairbanks when he was in the USAF? It certainly looks an incredibly beautiful state. Living in the U.K., we occasionally get very cold and snowy winters, although nothing like Alaska, and I absolutely hate driving on icy roads. Having no control on where your vehicle slides is very scary, so I definitely sympathise with you Adam. Very sensible taking it nice and slow. Great Overlook’esque hotel and equally creepy. What a great time to be there.
The thudd/bang you heard was most likely avalanche mitigation. They fire cannons/drop explosives on snow slopes to avoid too much snow build up.
Holy cow for real ?

Reading some other comments. I remember when we lived in NY. Upstate
my folks always had blankets in the car during the winter. And snacks and water are
always a must. Even in AZ where I live now. And the Whales head for San Diego and Hawaii this time of year.

Adam, Why did you not book a guided tour? I know you like to travel off by yourself but Alaska is a completely different place to travel.
I’m really enjoying your Alaskan adventures, safe travels Adam
Winter snow driving is the worst. Winters here in Ohio/Indiana areas can be terrible. You learn to deal with it but it still sucks lol. We have been lucky the last few years but they are usually cold, snowy, icy, depressing, dark. That's why we always try to make a trip to wdw in the middle of winter to enjoy some sunny warm weather. Great videos Woo. Enjoy yourself and safe travels.
What area are you in. I'M in the Richmond area right on the border
