    If you attach a T on the bottom pipe and a shut off valve (the 3" pipe) and connect a clear pipe to the overflow, via another T you will have a gauge and a quick way to tell how much sediment is in the bottom of the barrel. A shut off valve will enable you to empty the barrel without having to unscrew it.

    Hi. Always 'unroll' pipe, cable and stuff from a coil.
    This is easier with two people
    Unroll pipe like yours along the ground and hold in place in the sun with sandbags or similar. Never pull the pipe, cable or whatever to the side, pulling off a long spiral. On smaller bore pipe and cable, poor handling like bad unrolling, can kink and prevent the pipe from ever laying flat.
    Great series of videos - keep em' coming!

    Great Job! That was a heck of a job getting that hooked up and leveled out! I had a 2" poly line with hose clamps, on hot days it would work off the barbs even with hose clamps, I used 1" drywall screws on each side of connection to hold it together. Yep, poly pipe needs a propane torch wrestle those connectors in. Our Ag store had a PVC to Poly connector. Probably want to bite the $ bullet and put a valve on the sediment drain.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was quite the task! More poly pipe wrestling in the next part too.
      I made a 1 month of use video to see how much silt was built up. Only 1/2" on the barrel base.

  • @nagatang9725
    @nagatang9725 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Along the poly pipe you can install air release valve. Once a while you can release any air trapped inside, without worrying air pocket to back pressured your water flowing down hill.
    This way you can maintain optimum pressure at all time.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Air release valves would be handy. At the moment it takes about 20 minutes with the turbine off to purge the air out.

    Nice set up , we did one similar, but a more simple design, never rigged our tank up like you , we used only 2 high pressure 80mm 90° ďegree bends , 1 fitted to the bottom outlet of the tank, which is a screw on , this is so you can remove it to clean out the tank & 1at the bottom, connecting the tank outlet to the water pipe, that way , you dont need all those coñnections you used , & no need to build a stand to support the outlet piping , it all sits on the ground like the rest of your pipe. We had one 50mm feeder pipe into the top of the tank with a gate valve fitted, that way you can shut off the water to the tank, to do any maintenance if required & a 50mm open overflow pipe fitted to the side at the top of the tank, simple & effective.

    cap a piece of that pipe and stand it up on end and pour in a gallon of water, and then measure the depth of the water with a tape measure. Divide your 20 feet by the previous result and you'll know how many gallons in 20 feet. Multiply that by 8 and know how many pounds of water over that bridge.
    you can do it for the full 1100 feet too.

    Greetings my friend, loved the vid, I do have a couple tips, that could have made it easier and will in future additions or repairs.. A small propane torch works great in heating the black pipe so you can bend it easier also it will slightly expand it to get it on fittings, then clamping them.. Another thing, weather permitting is to pour a slab where the tank is and your table.. That would make it easy to hold down.. I don't know how bad weather can get there, I am a bit worried that a bad rain could cause your table to fall, pulling the line out of the barrel.. Sorry if i sound to be criticizing you.. I only want the best, I applaud anyone and everyone trying to get off the grid and be self sustaining.. There are many other vids that people are sharing showing how they have done it, many are a bit over thought, still they work quiet well.. A little sag in the line is fine, still you will want most of it to be stiff cause the ram pump can cause that line to jerk . A few steel rod pounded into the ground and the pipe secured to them will eliminate most of it... I read you used barbed connectors, That is what I would have strongly recommended.. PVC pipping up to your ram pump would work best, but they also do not hold up well to very cold temps...

      Thank you for watching! I have a torch now! It makes things so much better! Barbara fittings are the best for this... I found that the hard way. We have had one rain that sent 400 gpm over the screen intake. Handled it like a champ!

    Laying the pipes out for us was a good idea. I would actually take a 2 x 4 and drill holes in the end of it and do one of those for each end so you could stretch them nice and straight with a little tension on it and put some blocks or some thing on the two by fours just all them down I always see people trying to lay that stuff out when it’s still all curled up and wonder why they don’t just leave them out first like you did.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was far too cold to be doing that but I was anxious to get started. Laying it out for a week really helped get the pipe straight.
