Can't compare the two. One is an intelligent drone. One is an ecosystem. P4 has so much more flying power. But with the Karma you get a gimbal and a waterproof camera. Pick your poison.
I purchased one a few days ago, 2.20.19 and it's a phenomenal system, don't believe the haters, try one for yourself. GoPro threw in the towel way too soon on this incredible system.
This is a complete system... but a complete system that breaks down into detachable segments. Does that mean more can break / go wrong? Waiting to see!

It's a good deal for a handheld gimbal(usually couple hundred dollars), a Hero5 and the drone with the case and a pretty nice controller that doesn't require a phone to view POV. Not only that, I've heard it's pretty easy to use.

But this isn't "accessible" to 95% of your user base. 800 USD for the drone alone, that isn't even compatible with the Hero 3 cameras, is too much money already. Add the extra cost of a new camera, the spare parts/controller, and the gimbal grip, and you've got an expense that's just too high for the majority of us. Sorry, but we can't buy this stuff.

I actually purchased this drone from BestBuy about a month ago. First, let me say that this is the first drone I have purchased or flown, but according to GoPro this drone was made for folks like me. I am new to drones, new to GoPro and they claim I am their target audience. So I bought in and ponied up $1200 (kit plus a battery). I was enjoying using the Karma but on three separate occasions while trying to land the Karma it would take off just a few feet from the ground while landing. It shot straight up in the air, I let go of the joysticks (manual and videos says it sould stop and hover) and it rose like a bullet and flew straight off. I had GPS and the battery was about 3-4 minutes left and was landing per the controller instructions. THe first time I was able to get the Karma to respond and land safely, the second time it took off and almost flew into electrical wires. I was also able to finally (and just before it almost hit the wires) get Karma to come back down and land. Again, GPS was on and trying to land before the battery low warning came on. And now the third and sadly final time it took off on its own. I was again trying to land Karma and it shot straight up in the air and took off forward lodging itself 60 feet in the air in a top branch of a tree. A few moments later the battery fell out of the Karma. And there it sits in a tree until I can A) pay a tree guy/gal to go up and retrieve it or B) try and shoot it down which will probably end up destroying the drone, camera and gimble. Since, I spent all of my money on the drone and extra batteries and props I cannot afford to pay someone to retrieve it. If you are thinking about buying this, DON'T. Wait until GoPro can get this thing fixed properly. Otherwise, be prepared to have $1200 stuck in a tree mocking you all while you fight the urge to throw up. I am gutted that I foolishly spent this money and stupid enough to believe the hype.
I understand your disappointment.My friend had this drone and we found this drone was drifting itself really badly compare to phantom 3 and a propeller came off during landing.Then Karma recalled by GoPro and my friend got his money back.This drone have no sensors just like a toy drone, and toy drones are more portable than this.My opinion of new drone pilot is:get DJI spark,a brand have over 60% of the drone market is trustworthy.I'm not a advertiser from DJI,just telling the truth.

The portability of this drone is very impressive. I travelled with my P4 recently and while it wasn't that much of a burden it did change my whole travel bag setup. The wide angle is what kills it for me. Here, we've designed this amazing drone, now go shoot epic landscapes with horrible distortion. I really wish GoPro made their own line on interchangable lenses so you weren't limited to fisheye all the time. Other than that, it looks sweet!
as long as I can use my Hero 4 silver on it....and I can plug a battery pack into it to recharge the controller and spare drone battery...then I'm all in!

karma does not include a camera. throw in a new 5 and it's basically the same price as a p3/p4. The gopro 4 is compatible with Karma.
