He would sing with the Bee Gees occasionally. He concentrated on his singles Career. The Bee Gees wrote Andy's songs and would perform backing vocals for him. Andy agreed to join the Bee Gees full time but died before that was able to occur. You Should Be Dancing was one of the few times he performed with the Bee Gees.

They announced in 88 that Andy was joining the Bee Gees and the first album they were going to record with the four of them is the album ONE. It's dedicated to Andy. Sadly Andy passed away March 10, 1988. Five days after his 30th birthday.

What a lot of people don't realize is that Barry suffered from spinal issues and the falsetto was quite painful for him. He was frequently in agonizing pain. Yet it never ever showed. Now that's showmanship!

He just made a guest appearance here, it was the 1979 Spirits having Flown tour at Oakland stadium. Andy was to join the group late 1988/early 1989 after he finished his last contractual solo album; however, he died in March of 1988 just 5 days after his 30th birthday and it never happened.

Oh, I graduated HS in 1979. The Bee Gees and the songs they wrote for others were the soundtrack of my teenage years. I rediscovered them a couple of years ago when I got a new car that came with a free music service trial. At the same time I found their ONE NIGHT ONLY CD while in a checkout line. Then I decided to look online to find out more about what happened to Andy. The article I read was an interview with their mother and said the Bee Gees had started as kids. That started my fascination with their story. Their work ethic, even as kids, was incredible! They are so funny, and included comedy in their routines. Did you notice the open jackets revealing their famous, hairy chests? But did you notice that Barry’s is scarred? As a toddler, he pulled on a tablecloth where his mom had set a just poured tea pot, and was badly scalded. At one point only given 20 minutes to live, and in hospital for about a year. The world almost didn’t have his music. Tons of fascinating stories and endless videos. If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t marry my first husband, and I would definitely see the Bee Gees live. I did go to LA to the Grammy’s tribute to them in 2017, and Barry closed out the night with this song. Can’t wait to watch the new documentary this Saturday on HBO. Thanks for the reaction!!

Thank you, that was a great reaction, & to answer your question, yes I am old enough that I saw the Bee Gee's perform 3 times, & every time was an unforgettable concert!!! Also, an answer to your second question, Andy Gibb did have a solo career, however he always wanted to be a part of the Bee Gee's, and this was one of his 1st performances during the time he was thinking of joining the Bee Gee's permanently, however, sadly passed away, shortly after this......RIP Andy, Maurice & Robin, we miss you!!!

Andy made a couple of appearances on the Spirits Tour this was in Texas they made a TV special with it I believe. Yes this is one of the songs Travolta danced to in the movie. They are truly blessed with talent but were visited by tragedy in the form of loss and early death. I wish I had gotten to see them too. I have photosensitive epilepsy so I can't go to concerts because of the stage lighting. Thanks for playing the Bee Gees.

Have you seen the new documentary out on them? I'm not sure which streaming service it's on, but it's so worth it. Goes way back to their beginnings to the end when it's just Barry and it gets emotional. So well done. These guys could go into a studio in the morning and come out with five songs by the afternoon.

  • @namwob77

Andy was much younger and had his own separate career but his brothers would do small segments in some of his singles and he would reciprocate by appearing in some of his brother's songs. He had plans just before his death to become a full time member of the Bee Gees but fate stepped in so it never happened. Sad.

I was a self-proclaimed "dancing fool" when the Bee Gees were the biggest group in music - and loved every moment! After the debut of "Saturday Night Fever" Bee Gees songs played almost everywhere you went - It was a culture change: how we danced, dressed, etc. I'm one of the few who can say I saw the Bee Gees in concert (1997) and Barry Gibb (1989) at an event. Indeed, he was gorgeous - a magnet to women, holding their attention speaking or singing. As for Andy Gibb? Youngest of the Gibb brothers. He was never an official Bee Gee because he was so much younger than Barry, Robin & Maurice. He was a solo artist most chart-topping songs written by Barry. I feel blessed to have experienced hearing the amazing voices of the Bee Gees in concert. Now you are hearing them - Next on your list? "Stayin Alive" .....
