With my i3 UK version is hard to unplug the battery but wasn’t necessary, also you can avoid removing the front cover and the speaker cover, anyways this tutorial is very handy!
Super tutoriel. Pour ceux qui ne sont pas trop manuel oubliez . Le long cache est difficile à remettre. Tout marche bien j'avais juste oublié de mettre auxiliaire dans le soft BMW donc je n'avais pas de son .
Thank you for the best tutorial on TH-cam for installing the unit. Could you elaborate how you mounted the USB plug? I'm unclear how you "pressed with a metal frame". Thank-you
I am just so freakin' impressed with the quality of this video and the details of the instruction. Those hand motions for how to pop off plastic pieces etc. It is like this dude needs to do an academy to teach people how to do training videos. My mind is blown! Still not sure if I want to tackle this project. If I do all that I might as well upgrade the screen as well.
This really helped me a lot. It has worked for me for about a year. I don't know if anyone has experienced this: RoadTop works just find but if I 1) hold down the menu button to switch to the native iDrive display or 2) just get into the car without my phone at all, the screen just stays black. I've tried rebooting the iDrive system by holding the power/volume knob for 30 seconds; it sounds like its rebooting because I can hear fuzz through the speakers at approx 30 sec mark but screen always stays black and no ability to use the iDrive system. Anyone else?
Thanks for the tutorial. I watched it several times before the device arrived to familiarize myself with the carplay unit as well as some of the inner workings of the car. I would suggest, however, that people take a look at BMH's suggestions at th-cam.com/video/4sUPUbr0WAM/w-d-xo.html. That suggestion saves a HUGE amount of time and tools. It places the carplay unit right next to the head unit and just switches a couple of the LVDS wire locations to make it work. I did it in about 15 minutes and that was with troubleshooting. The only things I had to do was remove the battery cables and the backseat. All of the rest was unnecessary (for me) as it all went in the back under the backseat instead. The only issue is that the USB cable is in the back now, but I plan on resolving that later. [I should also note that some people tried to put their units in the back and reported that it didn't work, so apparently it doesn't work for everyone. I'm not quite sure why since the cabling is all the same, but that's what they reported.] Save yourself some time and effort and try it the BMH way!
thanks for the tutorial. however, carplay is working but there is no sound and i can not hold menu button and switch between bmw idrive and back to carplay. there is only car play.. maybe the selector switches on the carplay box is wrong? how are they suppose to be? right now settings are everything on! i dont have the manual unfortunately..
When removing the screen cable, it was helpful to unplug the old cable, then use electrical tape to tape the old screen connector to the end of the new one then I pulled the old cable through to remove it and it pulled the new cable through without having to push it through.
I have been using this great product for a while on my wife's 17 i3 and the car was in the shop for bodywork for 5 months due to part shortage. we just got it back and i was told the 12v battery was disconnected during the 5 months. now when i press/hold the option button, it says no input and i can't seem to connect to the unit. any suggestions?
@@cricnorcal5523 I ended up taking my BMW i3 to the BMW dealership to get a diagnosis on the problem. They said that a pin got bent on the head unit. They replaced the pin.
Mine used to work fine. But then it started to randomly not turn on and sometimes turn on. it started to show me only black screen. Now when I press menu button it shows me night sky with the car logo and CARPLAY written underneath, and it stays on that screen. How do I make it work again?
@@Jeffkoertzen LOL, I love designs like that. So 1 and 2 are always set to on, it's like why not just forego the dip switches and run traces in their place then have dip 3 marked for small down position or large up position. Folks who engineer stuff like this drive me crazy. If I decide to do this project, I think I might as well go for the big screen while I'm all in there like that.
It offers both. You can switch between the standard BMW entertainment system, CarPlay, or Android Auto. (And other options, including connecting something via HDMI.)
Hi! I have just one issue after installing this device. My iPhone ever so often connects to audio output called carplay but no sound comes out anywhere so I have to manually switch to the cars Bluetooth while using carplay. Is there a solution I'm missing. Thanks!
Hi sir, that is fit for the car of 2012-2017, with NBT system, please click below link for the detail information, thanks www.aliexpress.com/item/4000670864781.html
This is the best tutorial I seen on this. Just wish it went further and explained how to set the interface up. Thx
Thank you sir.
@@forrestergil Sorry sir, this is road top, not Andream.

Nice job - we install the same over here in the UK!

thx for your advice . what model do you have ? 2015 rex ?
Good instructions. Just make sure you have all the tools ready before starting! Most people don't have a torx T50.

Is there a better tool to use for the screw caps? The ones here look like they got pretty chewed up when removing
I have installed this system on my i3 but the display in the car did not turn on. There is only a blue light flashing in the roadtop module.
Did you get a solution ?
Same here. Did ya’ll ever find a solution?

Followed the instructions but can’t get any video on the screen. I can see the lights blinking in the road top unit but that’s about it.
Your video is great! Do you use the microphone of the car or do need to install an external microphone?
What is the toggle switch supposed to be set at??
The DIN settings? According to the manual, #s 1 and 2 are ON for the small 6.2" display and #s 1, 2, and 3 are ON for the larger displays.

Does this unit offers fully wireless android auto or just CarPlay ?

Can Android 12 use it?
